Another defensive tactic described by witnesses is catching the attacking dog with the forepaws and disembowelling it with the hind legs.
Damn, so kangaroos are basically jacked-af cassowaries with arms?

I can't stop laughing. The way the guy got into a boxing stance. And the Kangaroo's reaction after the punch. Priceless. Thanks so much for sharing, you made my day!

Kangaroo Jack(ed)

Is this common in Australia?

It's an ancient, sacred rite of passage from boyhood to manhood, but since the 1950s women have taken part in it as well. Connecting with the land, with the very Earth itself in the sacred Walkabout, Australians undergo a journey during adolescence, typically from ages 10 to 16, and live in the wilderness for a period as long as six months to make the spiritual and traditional transition into adulthood. It all culminates by facing the final boss, the physical manifestation of your Spirit Guide Kangaroo.

So they are used to punching Kangaroos all the time over there.

In so confused. How is this the same clip as the video, except he's not punching the roo on the face in this gif??

Poor quality gif of a poor quality video. Far as I can tell the similar colours of the mans hand and the kangaroos chest (in the video) blurred together in whatever made the gif, combined with the (relatively) low frame rate (?) make it look like he isn't punching the kangaroo in the face, when he is.

the punch hits the chest in the gif. Yes I am confused.
No, it only looks like that due to the colours all being very similar, the original video being of poor quality and the GIF has the punch in exactly one frame, which is probably slightly after the punch. That's why it looks like he punches the kangaroo in the chest.

Guy was lucky he didn't get kicked. Personally I'd be in full hockey pads before going up against one of those marsupials. They are adorable though.

Kangaroo had dog in sleeper hold, man goes to boxing stance toe to toe with Kangaroo, man delivers a punch and Kangaroo ate it saying "that's it?", man realizes he's fucked and says "let's get the fuck outta here!!!!". Seriously, this whole thing had me rolling. LMAO

I knew kangaroos were tough and muscular, but damn. This dude's definitely lucky he tried picking a fight with a weaker one; any of the others here (Barring the barely-past-being-a-Joey one with the ball) probably could've taken him, the dog, and the cameraperson before any of them could get away.
