Even funnier lmao

How did we get that potato cam footage if there is already a hd version of it? Anyway that's way too hilarious. That guy is really lucky though.
To bad that there is no close up shoot.

Sure, and by doing so they are doing it illegally. You never heard people being fined or taken to court for killing and harming kangaroos? How the police or rspca call for information regarding a kangaroo or other native wildlife which has been found harmed or killed? Just search for 'rspca kangaroo' and look at news in google for a sample.

Kangaroos aren't even close to being protected? It's a native species of Australia. It is protected alongside all other native wildlife (apart from dingoes in some areas I believe).

Considered pests? Sure, just like orang-utans, elephants and the like are too. Quite a few humans can't stand to see native wildlife near them, even though they lived there before the humans came along.

You're so wrong it's laughable. Hunting kangaroos is perfectly legal and in lots of places there are even regular cullings. There's even a freaking wiki page.

Kangaroos are easily one of the most bizarre looking creatures in the world. They've got this marsupial looking head, the torso of a yoked up human, huge claws, and then these massive legs and tail.

What a weird concoction nature created with that one

Check out prehistoric kangaroo

Not really.
Maybe Wallabies which are a smaller breed of kangaroos

When he says "pest" he doesn't mean small size, he means that the animal is considered a nuisance because it's potentially disruptive or dangerous to humans and is not afraid of living in close proximity with human communities.

For example, alligators are a pest in many parts of Florida, and bears often become pests in the Pacific Northwest.

You are required to have permits to legally kill them, just like with other native wildlife. It isn't a case of just seeing any kangaroos in the wild and it's fine for any person to kill them whenever. Here are two news stories I found quickly just then of people getting in trouble for harming kangaroos and other native wildlife: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/n...e-kangaroo-with-crossbow-20161123-gsvqqe.html and http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2016-06-14/man-escapes-jail-over-cruel-beating-deaths-kangaroos

Also yes there is a 'kangaroo harvest' but it is only in selected areas (although I still find it shameful like taiji and dolphins, Canada and seals, etc)

Oh and as taken from NSW Government (which covers Condobolin where this incident happened) website http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/animals/Livingwithkangaroos.htm:

Remember, kangaroos are protected animals and it is an offence to injure or kill them.

I thought the same until I was part of a project team for Macropod management policy for Queensland Government

Overpopulation of kangaroos is bad for the environment and the kangaroos themselves (mass-starvation, territorial violence and parasite epidemics). Culling is a necessary evil. There are more humane control methods in development including contraceptive measures.

The footage is so damn funny

However this

“We are working with Mr Tonkins to understand the exact circumstances of the event and will consider any appropriate action.”

is bullshit. There is nothing to consider. That guy did nothing wrong.

I'm glad to know the next kangaroo that comes at me looking for a punch-up will at least be wearing a condom.

Relax. Dude will be fine. The authorities are just making it clear that they're watching. They don't want a bunch of idiot copycat kids trying to pick fights with kangaroos.

That kangaroo was probably a newbie.

If it wanted to it could've fucked up everybody involved in that scene.

Kangaroos can gore the shit out of you with its long-ass claws, not to mention its forceful kick and 10' vertical jump.

There's a possibility the Kangaroo though it was just playing with the dog. The way it reacts to the man looks like it didn't have violent intentions at all.

Just so everyone knows..
Most kangaroos are not "looking to fight".. lol..
They are quite timid animals and aren't going around attacking us all if we see them in the wild.. You can probably even coax some into feeding them. May attack you but still.. I've never seen a kangaroo chase anyone down or anything lol...

Also.. for what its worth, that kangaroo and dog both looked like they are playing at the start of the vid.. the dog didn't look too concerned until the guy ran up..

The way it strikes with its legs at the dog a moment before it lets the dog go doesn't make me think it was just playing around.

I don't know for sure.... but I don't think that Roo is playing or hugging with the doggo. Let's not project our human behavior on them.

Yeah you are probably right. It was just what I thought upon first viewing, from the way the dog didn't bail instantly. Perhaps was the fact that it couldn't move from being held so hard or had already tried before the video started..

I actually didn't know kangaroos hated dogs so much, according to NSW gov they should never mix..

Kangaroos and dingoes dont really get along, why should they get along with other dogs?

Sure, and by doing so they are doing it illegally.

I also like being wrong! It's so fun, isn't it?

You get your permit, you follow the rules stipulated in the permit, you get to shoot Roos in designated zones and under specific conditions. It's not hard, I know a few people who do it every now and again. It's nowhere near as popular as pigging, though. Primarily because wild pigs are the most worthless pests ever, and the permit is much more... lenient.

Edit: saw your clarification afterwards

Yeah, Red Kangaroos are.

Eastern Greys are way more common in populated areas though and much smaller and more timid.

Living in suburb just outside of Toowoomba on the fringe before it becomes all farm and bushland, you get to see a few greys around. Had one out front of the house one day, took me a moment to realise it was a kangaroo, saw me and took off. The power they generate in those legs is amazing, this was only a joey, but even you can feel it when they kick the ground and take off and that's only a small one, I've love to be around a big red at full flight.

Mates place on the other side is on 5 acres and surrounded by bush, when we go flying our racing quadcopters around his backyard you usually find a few just hanging out. They usually duck off as soon as we start setting up, one was pretty inquisitive one day though, I was surprised, it just sat there eating grass and watching us do laps. Didn't seem to worry it at all.

The biggest I've seen in the wild was actually a grey out in WA. Was out riding on a 600cc 4 stroke KTM and came across it in the middle of the field, thought I'd see what his top speed was; holy smokes that sucker could move and you could feel every kick and when they do they throw up huge lumps of ground, the funny thing is it wasn't even really pushing it, I pulled up beside and just slightly behind it (I didn't want it making a sudden direction change straight into me) and he just cruised along, at a fair clip as it went for the edge of the paddock where a fence was, decided I should back off incase it was too exhausted to make the jump; nope, that thing put the hammer down, cleared the fence by god knows how much with absolute ease, hit the ground and accelerated off into the bush.

Dude you can buy kangaroo meat in the fucking grocery store. My friend grew up on a farm in Victoria and they used to shoot them all the time for fucking things up on the property. Have you ever been to Australia or talked to an actual Australian?

Comparing it to the seal hunt is so far off base it's laughable.

All my knowledge about Australia is from that one Simpsons-episode, Paul Hogan-movies and trying vegemite once, but this looks like the most Australian thing to me.

My fave part about this is how both the guy AND kangaroo pretty much react to the whole thing as if this was a common occurrence and minor annoyance.
