Neither Berserk or Kingdom are shounen.

My personal favorites for shounen are Jojo and HxH. Favorite ongoing shounen series btw.

I've heard good things about Seven deadly sins. I really need to get to reading that. This weekend definitely.

And I just thought to get rid of the shounen qualifier because I thought there would be a lot of people listing the same series, and I was looking for more diversity than just standard Jump manga

So what exactly is a battle manga/anime?

While not required, series of this ilk often include: epic battles between users of supernatural and/or elemental abilities, a long journey, gluttonous protagonists, wacky humor (that may or may not come at inappropriate times), speeches, staring contests, power levels, transformations, tournaments, and other stuff. More often than not, these series fall under the "Shounen" demographic, meaning it is aimed at pre-teen and teenage males. However, this does not necessarily mean there are a lack of adult themes! There are also a handful of "Seinen" (aimed at adult males) series and even 1 "Josei" series (aimed at adult females).

Ah, I just remembered a good battle manga - Hangyaku no Kagetsukai. It's about controlling shadows and it was pretty dark.

Sarcasm aside, the non-spoiler part of my post was genuine. Soma is an enjoyable manga, definitely one of my fav mangas out of jump in recent years.

There's a few. I haven't found a ton I like because of the art, but they definitely exist.

Satanister probably counts, which is amazing, but is VERY atypical for a josei series. Everything from the art to the writing screams seinen. It might make sense since it's by a man that does seinen stuff.

After awhile it gears up into full gear

Currently the series is banana crazy a wonderful read


If you like stuff like HXH and OP you'll like Toriko

Toriko is so great.

Easily the new top three since Bleach has been irrelevant for a long time. Better than OP / Naruto in the slow weeks, actually updated unlike HxH.

You want world-building done at a decent pace? This got it.
You want neat creature designs and creative "dishes"? This got it.
You like ripped dudes that get more even more ripped as the story goes on? This got it.

Also, there's a wolf-dog.
But you know, no bias.
