Marathon approaching 15k CCU low (sponsored by coachmcguirk91 - still having a blast)

I don't think you're friend represents a meaningful percentage of the PvP population.

Many of the most popular PvP games are colorful. Marathon looks great.

I wonder why people would choose to write articles about it using this kind of language then.

The thing is, pretty much all elements of Marathon's artwork could work, but in the combination of how they've been employed they don't. I'm no art analysis who knows how to structurally breakdown why, I just know that other things that share vague similarities to Marathon look great and Marathon does not. Ghost in the Shell, Mirror's Edge, Wipeout, and the general work done by The Designers Republic.

Marathon is the video game equivalent of the Jaguar rebrand. This is coming from me, someone who's never been into Halo, and probably spent no more than 20 hours in Destiny.

Again, played Marathon and I like what I played. Runners look like ass. I like buying skins. Nothing even came close to make me want to pull the trigger. The characters look like shit and the guns look worse.

I've bought about a half dozen Arc Raiders skins, and they are not the best, but their worst skin is better than anything in Marathon. I have at least a couple hundred bucks in Marvel Rivals skin. I don't even want to know what I spent in Fortnite. I have PUBG skins, tons in COD. Marathon looks like shit. It's simple. I know a lot of people that only play PvP games, I could not talk any of them into buying this, and I'm glad I didn't. Number one reason, they hated the way it looked.

You're clearly a SP gamer or something I dunno. Am I doing this right?

Are you a SP gamer?

Oh, for sure.

Marvel Rivals - 300-400 hours
Arc Raiders - over 500 hours
PUBG - Close to 1000 hours
COD- 1000's of hours
Battlefield - over a 1000 hours
Overwatch - 300+ hours
Original Counter-Strike - over 1000 hours
Fortnite - Around 1000 hours

Those are a few examples of my SP gamerness. Typing that out makes me really question my life decisions. :)

Games that have sold a bit more or less $$$ on Steam. Watch out Bunny Garden 2. Marathon only 7 spots away.

Femboy Futa House is literally dollars away from generating more revenue than Marathon.

A COD game that came out in 2014 sold more. And AW is even one of the worst COD games.

10 pm completed hour CCU. Big cryo bump day. Plus that map tweak and green shield tweak yesterday. Peaked at 15.2k
All time peak was launch day 88.3k. Today's peak at 15.2k is -73.1k or -83%

Today vs yesterday: 15.2k vs 13.4k (+1.8k or +13%)

Yesterday's low 4k. If the rate holds, low tonight will be 4.5k

Thu vs Thu: 15.2k vs 17.1k (-1.9k or -11%). Much better than the historic changes of -20%

Ratio method to estimate peaks and valleys
Mon-Thur 3.3:1. For example, a peak of 15k will have a low of 4.5k. For Fri/Sat, gamers stay up playing so the ratio is 2.5:1

Steam Rankings
Daily Active Users: 131
Global Top Sellers: 201
Weekly Top Sellers: Unknown. Not on top 100
Top Rated Games: 6,105 (83.77%)

Summary
The video discusses the critical financial situation surrounding Bungie and their game Marathon ahead of Sony's Q4 fiscal earnings report on May 13th (0:00-0:05). Following significant losses in November 2025—including a $204 million impairment on Destiny 2 and $118 million in cost corrections—Sony faces pressure regarding Marathon's underperformance (0:19-0:49). With Marathon seeing a sharp decline in player counts and falling short of revenue projections, the creator outlines three potential outcomes for the game: a public write-down (impairment), a "wait-and-see" approach, or a major pivot like a free-to-play transition or cancellation (1:26-1:57).

Conclusion
The creator concludes that May 13th is a pivotal date for the future of Marathon. Whether Sony chooses to absorb the losses or trigger a restructuring, the financial data suggests that the current trajectory is unsustainable. The market will be looking for specific signals in Sony's report, such as the direct mention of Marathon or shifts in divisional revenue guidance, to determine if the game has a future or is nearing a total sunset (3:14-3:42, 4:09-4:35).

lol I came here to post this video! <3

Huge write down. Translates to $766M US. I posted the ballpark math in the other thread.

Getting there. I remember way back I said in a post Bungie is worth no more than $500M US. Another billion to go. But technically if you include all the operational losses they've done for years based on huge overhead and tiny sales, technically probably already got there. But since the above math is purely balance sheet and buyout valuations, still more to go.

Hars to really say considering how big and ambitious the genre is. I think Marathon is too difficult to surf the wave.

- Skill gap too high
- Squad fill is awful
- Cryo Archive not compelling enough

Marathons ceiling will innately be limmited due to it's arena shooter DNA but it's floor is higher than what we saw from S1. Marathon is great if you're a higher skill than the average and can consistently play with friends. It's much choppier for everyone else.
So it is not casual friendly?
Did I summarize your point correctly?
If that is the case, maybe it is not meant to have a big player base. Maybe that is all it can ever achieve ?
