Marathon Releases March 5 '26 - $39.99

Well I wouldn't say they "know", just that it's more likely. Could always be someone lurking nearby in wait. Seems like a nice little addition that fits right into risk-reward loop while heightening immersion. Mindblowing? No, but is anyone claiming it is? (Maybe they are, idk)
There's much less incentive to lurk nearby decayed bodies than there is to lurk nearby perfect bodies.

Doesn't this diminish the risk reward loop? How does it add to it?

Yes, and ill be camping it waiting for you to turn up feeling all safe.
But I'm not going to check on decayed bodies. I'll only check perfect bodies because decayed bodies have almost certainly been looted already. A decayed body reduces gravity to the body.

But again, I'm not going to check on decaying bodies because the assumption is that they've been looted. A camper wants his prey to come to a fixed position so they can hide better.
Nah I check on bodies all the time in Arc.

The average punter can't walk past an open looted container never mind a scene from the battle of Waterloo.

Arc sort of does it already with the smoking fireballs. I think its a good addition personally.

The actual Bungie quote is "The body decays over time as you loot it".

This might simply be an anti camping mechanic. If we can see that bodies have been looted far away, it makes the world more simple, and less tense.

We'll have to see how it actually works, but I'm thinking this is a bad change right now.

Right, but if the game tells us "This body has (likely) been looted", then fewer people are going to check those bodies.

I think all it really does is discourage the camping of bodies. Less likely to set up booby traps ala Vietnam.

I didn't take it as that. I thought it decayed over time. Let me check.

So the quote was "slowly decays over time as you loot (it)" Could mean either. Hopefully its the former. Don't think it needs to be telegraphed that a body is empty.

I guess so, but right now, in ARC Raiders you can come across a pile of bodies and it's fun not knowing if they died recently of 10 minutes earlier in the match. Noticing decayed bodies just reduces the tension and limits the sandbox a bit, no?

A decayed body would not necessarily mean the area would be safe. The killers could still be around and exploit that false sense of security to get an unexpected jump on a player. I think it's also a slightly diegetic way to communicate in-world to worse players that they should probably exercise more caution if the body is still fresh. It's not the most genius thing ever but it adds another layer to how people engage with the game.

Gotta admit this game looks better every time i check it out. I am not sure why some people don't like the art but it's great. Those colors. I hope they do an open beta at some point.

Who said this?
Think it's more of the weirdos hoping that it shuts down within a week rather than it actually looks like it.

In other news if this game doesn't have top tier HDR it will be 2026's first crime against humanity. I want my eyeballs burning out.

I've heard it all over, although less often since the vidoc re-reveal.
I'm calling bull shit. I've never seen Jack shit saying this looks like concord.

Visually? No.

Have people said they think it'll fail and bomb like concord? Yes.

Marathon can't come soon enough. Been itching to play so bad.

Sad Inside Out GIF

Easy lads, there's not many of us on the Marathon train, no need to start squabbling between ourselves over something and nothing.

My only fear at this point is the Marathon ship.

If they have Destiny raid mechanics in there like in the later ones ill be very disappointed, should be all about the combat.

So If theres modes with no Matchmaking then they can poke it.

Barring any disappointments I'm anticipating my top three will be this, Saros, and Control.
I'm only looking forward to Mewgenics and Romeo Is A Dead Man this year so it's quite possible personally. There's some others but they're on the backburner. I'm killing time with Ultrakill right now though and having a blast so I might even delay getting those for a while...

I hope it's fully doable solo, although I'm ok if there's some more involved tasks or light puzzling to get to the end.
Yeah light puzzles and mechanics are fine in my book.

If a team needs a PHD in hieroglyphs and better comms than a seal team then no thanks.

I'm not expecting the ship to be soloable for the majority of players unless they tune the difficulty specifically for solos. Going off the tests that ain't happening and I'm fine with that. I'm sure there will be some cheeses pop up though.

If ends up the case I'll need to find some new friends. I'll probably be able to get my usual group to play this "casually" but most of my buddies have sold out and won't devote significant time and effort into online multiplayer games anymore. Well shame on them and their "adult responsibilities" "children" etc...

I'm sure there will be a fairly tight group on here willing if that's the case. I only have one of my group who I've convinced this is the second coming of Christ so far so will be needing some extra nerds come release.

I'll absolutely be down to play with whoever on here is interested. I was pretty dogshit in the tests so far, but my playtime was limited. Planning on putting in big numbers on release so I'll definitely be looking for nerds who wanna use mics and communicate without being hyper sweats.

Played a lot of Destiny but wasn't interested inin marathon. Tried Arc Raiders and now I'm very interested. Think it's going to be quite the hit.

I don't plan on playing much trio's with complete randoms as the way the matchmaking works there is no pre-game lobby to co-ordinate loadouts/ team composition unless you are in a premade.

Nothing worse in the test than loading in with decent gear only to find to sponsored kit scrubs with no mics on your squad looking to do their own thing.

Should be easy to find some like minded non sweats to play with. Main goal for me is fun, I'm a pretty average player these days.

Bonus gun shot for the day from the test:

I assume if you see decayed bodies, it means they've been looted and the fight has been over for a while?
Or someone will use that to camp the decaying bodies.

I think it's a neat touch I wish they add more of. Like vegetation that gets stepped on always stays down and footprints that always stay visible when stepping in blood/liquid. You could really track targets down and make conclusions.

I also hope you don't all spawn in at the same second, so it won't become "sprint to the nearest hot spot and have a fight over it" every match.

Yeah movement looks especially fluid and fun. I reckon it will be the perfect complementary game to Arc.

Oh weird, was hoping they'd approach it like Hunt showdown, so the matchmaking only starts after having found one or two other player(s) and everyone clicks accept.

Personally I never care what other people use but I can see why others might so that would definitely be something they'd have to implement.

In other games I'd agree. But not knowing what your other potential team mates shell picks and loadouts are adds an unnecessary gamble on top. I found in the test that it was pointless to bring in decent gear with randoms as the risk of losing it was too great. The work around was loading in with a sponsored kit and if you got a decent group add them. Bungie likes creating their own problems imo.
