Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Considering the number of babies/Koopa's I'm hoping for more.
I assume Bowser JR is the bottom right next to the other Koopa's.. he the most famous of the Koopa's so him not being in would be ridiculous.. and isn't going to happen.

Nice a character select screen shot. Since this is the 8th game in the series, I can easily see the rows go 8 x 5 for a nice 40 characters overall.

Also...slightly seems like metal baby mario and baby rosalina may exist lol.
 
I really do think Nintendo should consider adding characters from other franchises into the mix. They wouldn't necessarily have to change the name into Nintendo Kart or anything like that, but... I dunno, having other Nintendo characters in there like Link, Samus, Zelda, etc would be so awesome. I know people would draw similarities to Smash Bros, but so what? I don't see the negative in adding characters. I'll be honest, the Mario characters are probably my least favorite characters that Nintendo has made, lol. And it's getting to the point where they are just adding too many filler versions of already existing characters which is kind of lame (ie: the babies, Metal, etc).

I just think that it would break a bit the aesthetics of the game. I can't imagine human figures like link, samus or cpt. falcon fitting and being visually apealing without reworking the characters. It works in smash because you can have a wide range of shapes and sizes. The Nintendo Land versions of the characters could fit, but I'm not sure if I want that...

edit: I still don't get why they had to tanslate Rosalina's name in Spain.
 
Oh god, I hope that roster screen magically shrinks to fit in more characters. It'll be so sad if Birdo got cut again. Goddamn Metal Mario again!

Besides Diddy who is a lock now, just based on roster placement alone it could be a combination of Bowser Jr./Dry Bowser/Dixie Kong/more babies. 30 characters is not enough at this point! :(

It really wouldn't hurt anything aside from the feelings of a few OCD fans. I know I'd be more likely to buy it. It would introduce a ton of potential in terms of items and tracks, and it could still stay 80% focused on Mario themes.

Diddy Kong has now been… unconfirmed for Mario Kart 8. We initially thought that the character would be included in the roster based on an article from Spain’s Official Nintendo Magazine, but it turns out this was a mistake. Director Juan Carlos Garcia confirmed on Twitter that ONM made an error.

That said, Diddy Kong isn’t necessarily ruled out all together. This just indicates that the magazine was inaccurate.

I'll be very disappointed if there is only 30 characters for MK8, I mean there's already 29 confirmed characters for SSB4, and how's adding a new character for Super Smash Bros.4 is any harder than adding new characters for Mario Kart 8?

Mario Kart 8 seems to have bigger budget than previous Mario Karts, so I'm expecting 40-50 characters this time around.

Personally, I don't think it would really break the aesthetics that much. If human-sized characters are an issue (which I don't think it would be really), they could always use the Wind Waker models which would fit in perfectly in a MK game. I think even adult Link and other characters would be fine.

Oh god, I didn't even think about the addition of items and tracks they could use instead of just Mario related stuff. It seems like such a no-win situation. A Hyrule track with Zelda items... yespls.
 
Birdo's face has always creeped me out since a very young age. Plus, she'd swallow a shed load of bugs driving at those speeds.

As has been suggested in several other topics covering this? I think the main thing is that I don't think adding in more Nintendo characters would do anything to seriously increase Mario Kart's overall appeal in a significant way.

In other words: if you aren't already one of the millions who bought MKWii and/or MK7? Chances are, EAD adding in Samus, Link or Takamaru is not likely going to sway your choice any further to buy a future MK game.
