Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Am i in the minority in thinking that this game is going to create a Wii U turn?

Im not sure whats more foolish, that no game can turn a console around, or that one game can turn a console around.

I love Nintendo, and i wish them the best.

I kind of agree though I feel like it will work in tandem with a Zelda announcement to pull out a mild recovery, still one of Nintendo's worst console performances though.

I don't think it will cause a full turn-around. I do think that it will cause the console to have slightly less shitty sales.

Pretty much how I feel as well. SRT was a breath of fresh air for me in the kart racing genre, and it became one of my all-time fav kart racers. A lot of that was due to all the extra stuff you could do in the Career mode. I assume MK8 will be pretty barebone on modes like MK7 was mainly because they haven't really talked about any modes at all. Just shown off some racers and tracks.

I'm daring to remain optimistic, if only because they haven't even shown off any expected MP modes like some version of Battle Mode yet, let alone any possible extras.

I'm also hoping that MK8 will get its own Direct in May. Then they can take all the time to talk about the game in-depth, then.

Haven't they said they would make a game mode that ties homage to Double Dash?

I hope they're still doing that.
 
What the heck happened to the bottom of the Gamepad decals? It just looks like they ran out of material to cover near the Home/TV/Power buttons.

I'm with you and I think this game could turn things around for Wii U. It really depends in how much advertisement receives. This is like Wii U's golden (last?) opportunity. Let's not forget that 2 weeks after MK8 release, E3 would start and let's just hope Nintendo can truly bring the megatons there. Meanwhile, I'm genuinely excited for this game. IMO, it's aiming to be the best MK ever. 2 months left tough :(

If we can talk about character theories here, there are a few characters that are pretty popular that quite a few people think should be included in the game:

Fawful
E. Gadd
Pauline
Sprixie
Toadsworth
Lubba
Plessie

and of course people want staple characters back as well such as Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr., Birdo, and Shy Guy. Most likely these will be coming back.

It will sell a few consoles but that's about it. Your not going to see 5 mil moved over Mario kart.

I imagine it will be pretty large, based on the inclusion of all 8 Koopalings. As cool as it is that they're all in the game, it would be pretty lame if they made up like a fourth of the roster. I'm sure they'll be balanced out by a bunch more characters.

Meanwhile in Europe (or at least the UK) our official licensed wheels are the most generic pieces of crap you could come up with. The Super Mario Kart Racing Wheel Wii-U free with GAME pre-orders say all you need to know.

So which legitimate character gets removed to make room? I'm still bitter about "Waluigi is too long, heres Wriggerler though, he is not too long at all".
 
I don't have a 3ds so know very little about MK7 and MK8, I loved MK DS/Wii and will be saddened to lose Wi-FI on 20th May. Anyway this as probably been asked before but can i use the Wii Classic controller with MK8 its my favourite big-N controller, Also can i buy MK8 on the digital store the day its been released and download it to a sd card and play it?. I don't have a wii u yet but this is the game i most want. Thank you for any help given.

Well, as long as character balancing is less of a concern here? Why not, I say.

My ideal would be that Mario Kart should be a celebration of the Mario brand (and its tributaries/spin-offs) as a whole. By the time we've exhausted the likes of the Koopalings, Pauline, Captain Syrup, E. Gadd, K. Rool, Cranky Kong and the like, where else could we feasibly go but bring in the likes of the RPG characters eventually?

I mean, hell, Dark Bowser would be a preferable "clone" choice to me than Dry Bowser, and actually unique characters like Fawful, Midbus and Dimentio would be something else altogether...

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Classic Controller is compatible. Also, when you get a Wii U you should try the Wii U Pro Controller. I use it with all my games and it's quite comfy and has great battery live (80 hours without a recharge). I'm sure the game will be available in a digital format. Their last big release Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze was up at midnight.

I'd like the Koopa Brothers to be added.

All first party titles go up for download at midnight EST.

You can't use SD Cards on Wii U for storage unless I suppose you put it in a USB adapter to make it into a pseudo-flash drive. However, flash drives aren't recommended anyway.
 
I might be in the minority when saying this, but I wouldn't mind if Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Goombella, & Kammy Koopa we're added as playable characters in a future installment in the Mario Kart series, along with locations that reference several of the sub-series, such as a race track that is based off of one of the Mario Party boards.

And now that I think about it, will there be any future tournaments on the NeoGAF forums, once the game is released?
