Remember when this was supposed to be as good (if not better) than Wii U's Mario Kart was supposed to be able to look?

I do not.

It was in one of the threads, either "Mario Kart 8 comes out in May!", or the latest MK8 thread about the amazon rumors.

I should say that IGN 'hinted', and didnt actually say, but I think its worth mentioning.

EDIT: Here's the post:

Doesn't help much, but you can at least PM the member who made that comment, to find out.

Thanks. I'll do it.

Oh yeah, I remember that..
or when it was supposed to be a "souped up" Mario Kart 7.
those were great times.

Hah!

I only wish that Nintendo would get the idea to at least use some of the arcade games' items. If only for the sake of some welcome variety.

My hopes for Mario Kart 8:
-A character from the Mario RPGs (preferably Fawful, but any one of them would be nice)
-An actual adventure mode.
-No Honey Queen (but if she's in I'll be fine because I can always kill her with Waluigi)
-Normal battle mode (iirc Wii only had teams)
-A damn epic Rainbow Road, but not rage-inducing like Wii's.

I hope there are more than 12 new tracks.

And this is one game I hope has DLC like more tracks!

I just want more tracks. Screw retro tracks. I want new ones, at least 20 of them, since Sonic Racing Transformed had 22!

I'd be OK with less Retro tracks and just more new ones. But we'll see. Transformed did have a crap ton of tracks, but the difference there was that I feel like Transformed track quality took a nose-dive halfway through. MK7 had a lot less, but there were all great.

Would everybody be ok with Mario Kart 8 DLC?
I was pissed off by the lack of DLC for Mario Kart 7, considering that they did DLC for NSMB2 for example. And later on the Wii U for Pikmin 3.

I think that having additional tracks (single or a pack for a new 4 tracks tournament) would be simply great.

At the right pricing, but up to now I think that they managed very well the balance among contents and price for DLC (way better than what they are doing for VC games for example)

I'd love more retro tracks as DLC but I doubt we ever see them.

me too I doubt, but I'd really love it.
I'm talking about a "normal priced game" at a "normal content volume", with additional trakcs later one to increase it's lifetime in my house.
Of course if they'd cut the number of initial trakc available, I'd be mad at them.

Yep. I really hope they do it. Track or character packs would be a great way to extend the game's lifespan. Imagine if they eventually released every good retro track as DLC and this became the definitive Mario Kart game :O

Mario Kart is one of the few games I'd absolutely approve of for DLC.

This is going to be the next console Mario Kart for several years. It'll also probably remain the Wii U's flagship title for the console's lifespan. They could keep it kicking with DLC racers and tracks. The problem is integration with online play.

Of course I doubt they'll do it. Another obvious choice was Nintendo Land and that doesn't have DLC.

And this is exactly why I think they won't implement DLC for this game.
Online plays a huge role in this game and I'm pretty sure they would rather add 8 more tracks to the usual 32 from the get-go
than adding them later and split the userbase that way.

It wouldn't really be splitting it all that much. If they did, they'd release them as a cup, like 4 tracks per DLC. "The DLC Cup", if you will. And you can only do whole cup races with the DLC, so only people who own it are playing. Doesn't really split the userbase at all (other than players are playing on the DLC cups as well as the regular.

I guess it depends on how many people actually buy and play MK8. MKWii had a crazy number of players at any moment. But that was on Wii, of course...

There's a lot of ways they could make DLC tracks work with online play.
Assuming they continue with the Mario Kart Wii model of letting people add/drop between races, they could just move people around to groups where everyone owns the DLC.
Or, if they're feeling charitable, include all the tracks in patches and let everyone play them, as long as they're selected by someone who own the track.

I know >:D Waluigi needs his revenge for being replaced in MK7.

But seriously though, who wouldn't want to see Fawful in a Mario Kart game?

A better question would be
Who would want to see Fawful in a Mario Kart game?
No, but seriously.. it is highly unlikely.

There's only been one Mario Kart since his huge role in Bowser's Inside Story, and MK7 was handheld, meaning a smaller roster. One would think that in the next console MK he would be a good candidate. Regardless of whether he's in or not, I'm still buying this game. Those graphics look amazing. Hoping there's at least a track from a Mario RPG though.

Nintendo showed that they could do great DLC with Super Luigis bros. It's a shame that SM3DWorld and DKC (although they still could get them....but not very likely) probably won't get any despite being perfect for it (especially world). The system already has incredibly low sales, with lower game sales and to funnel that even lower to DLC sales probably isn't worth it as they would do quality DLC.

...I just want DLC nintendo :(

I'm one that is against a Nintendo Kart because it's unique to Smash Brothers when it comes to the big series but while not exciting as new courses(not sure how they would do that as DLC with an online game like this), what about character packs???

Would any of you pay a few bucks to say drive as Link or Captain Falcon???

I mean like 3 characters per pack or something.

I think it could be fun even if I am fine without non-Mario characters included.

Trutfully after captain falcon, I wouldn't mind sonic being dlc as hilariously unlikely as he is.

I think I smell a Nintendo Direct coming....

With the rumor of MK info coming soon, GBA VC releasing soon, rumor of Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball releasing April 3, Mario Golf releasing in about a month, and we might get wii sports baseball(since they just had a free weekend, possibly to gain sales of previously released sports, before baseball comes out), it does smell like a ND could be soon.

Though, that MK8 news could just be coverage from journalists, like how it was recently, for Mario Golf.

I could see one coming in the middle of April.

Like I said in this or another thread, I wouldn't be at all opposed to them reaching into more of the side games for roster picks. At this rate, though, we still haven't even gotten other possible picks like Kamek, Pauline or somebody from WarioWare yet, so I think the sky's the limit in that area.

Also, it may be just me, but I wouldn't mind Dark Bowser being subbed out for Dry Bowser. I mean, as long as we're talking clones...

Not to mention Zelda Musou's personal hype train's engines have got to be start firing up soon. Back in December, they said the game was slated to be a Summer 2014 release for at least Japan, and that's coming ever closer.

gonna say it again even if its a long shot - voice chat for private/community games pls ;/

Maybe in Mario Kart 72?

Fun fact: Nintendo actually REDUCED the number of pre-set phrases available in MK7 communities compared with MKWii private rooms. A surely amazing way to improve communication.

Yeah. I don't see any characters from the Mario & Luigi/WarioWare games getting in. And I honestly don't mind it. Would feel kinda weird. Especially the WarioWare cast.
