Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

I want capt falcon as unlockable with the ability to patch your own recorded taunt. I Would immediately put "TOO FUCKING slow! where's MY Fucking game?"

Nintendo needs to really get behind this game with its own direct.

Honestly they can skip the direct as long as they actually advertise this game on TV and beyond kids channels. Put out on channels where those with the actual money to buy the game for either themselves, children, or others will be watching. Directs are worthless at this point if they aren't followed up with advertising.

Advertising doesn't really have anything to do with Nintendo Direct.

Saw this yesterday and got hyped again:

I really hope Nintendo learned from the past with Mario Kart 8.

My main concerns are online play, rubber banding and blue shell. I hope there is a good solution for those things.

blue shells are to MK, what farts are to sex.

a reason to move on to other things.

I can deal with rubber banding, to a point. I loved how in the OG Mario Kart I could take a lap to the latest drivers but well, it's optionnal fun.

Online play has to be skill based.

It's Nintendo, so voice chat probably won't be there.

Mario Kart Wii suffered from poor communication options. Selecting pre-made text doesn't count.

The Gamepad can be used easily for typing, and it includes a mic. Hell, technically Wii U Chat is a thing and has been touted as a system feature before. Why not implement it in games like MK8 as well?

Did Iwata (or someone at Nintendo) mention advances in the way miiverse works specifically for Mario Kart or am I imagining that happened?

It's going to support every control scheme that games like Mario Kart Wii, Brawl, and SM3DW did.

I don't know this for a fact but it doesn't make sense that the game wouldn't support every control type possible.

It's almost confirmed by Konno himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NARhOONsTLY&hd=1&t=3m32s

“Basically, the game will support all controllers like the games in the series did before”

By the way he mentions Wiimote+Nunchuk which should be added to the OP

That's good news. So far every Wii U game I own has been compatible with the Pro Controller and I love it.

Smash was confirmed to have Pro Controller support a while back, just was a bit weird to see MK8 not "officially" confirm it yet.

It would be nice if they had an item switch similar to Smash Bros. I'd turn off those blue shells in a heart beat.

I've been hearing from some people that they've come across MK8 ads on Youtube. Anyone here caught wind of this? Haven't seen one as of yet.

So I just realized may 30 is a mere 2 months away.

That's pretty damn exciting considering this looks to destroy every previous kart.

That would be ideal. I was thinking about the Gamepad's communication abilities just the other day, and I think it could be a wonderful controller for online experiences. Having the ability to draw, type, and talk via the Gamepad is convenient and instilled with potential.

Anyway, Mario Kart 8 is looking awesome. The gravity-defying tracks are looking very inspired from both a visual and design perspective, and combining them with Mario Kart 7's underwater racing and gliding mechanics should lead to some fun racing. I like the addition of the Koopalings too.

I used the Wii wheel solely for Mario Bike Wii. It felt good and I kicked ass with it lol. Though I think I may stick with using the Pro controller since it will be much easier to switch between and saves batteries. And I'm used to it in MK7, though I'll most definitely be able to adapt to any control method for the game.

there will never be chat with mic with strangers for a Nintendo game, wish it would happen though

wow if there's no support for the pro controller, I'll use the gamepad only at night for off TV play and never used the Wii wheel with Mk Wii

online play was pretty good with 7 and Wii so I hope it can match that

On what basis?

They're not using gcn models anymore and characters finally have fingers for the first time ever lol. Track variety, koopalings, bikes can't wheelie, zero gravity bowser castle and rainbow road possibilities. Just some basic things going on what we know so far

Mario Kart replays.
Amazing visuals.
Tons of content, characters.
The producer himself saying this game is to be the ultimate game in the series to be a culmination of the whole series.

Well, the producer's obviously going to say that and none of the other two have anything to do with gameplay (do we even know anything about the game's 'content' beyond the standard expectation of 16 new + 16 retro courses?). Certainly haven't seen the zero gravity thing being used as anything other than a visual gimmick yet. I'm not at all saying the game's going to be bad, just that from everything I've personally seen so far, it's just another MK with a fresh coat of paint.

Mario Kart with voice chat has the potential to be EVEN more curse filled than playing CoD with 12 year olds

Imagine the poor guy getting a Blue Shell and getting yelled at :lol

You forgot that the courses design are amazing so far.

Nintendo hasn't gone on the record to say exactly "what" features the upcoming Mario Kart 8 will include, let alone what Power-Up's will be included. If it has the mission mode from MKDS, item stealing from MMDD, etc., then I would agree with the producer's claim.

even if it was restricted to private/community games? i see no reason for them not to include it, though they almost definitely will not. i'd love to play MK with friends where we can taunt and talk to eachother in real time, recreate some of that local MP experience. nintendo are really backwards when it comes to this and it's not like the OS has any proper comms options either.

That's an entirely false statement. Anti-gravity allows for new shortcut possibilities, never-seen-before track layouts, and it adds a gameplay mechanic (colliding with another player or a bumper gives a boost, without interrupting drifts).
