so local multi doesn't have the option for one player on the tv and one on the gamepad? when the guy in the ign video turned on off-tv play, it just put the splitscreen on the gamepad.
It's a wiki page...

5 babies, Metal Mario (plus a Peach variation) and the Koopalings? God damn what an awful character roster, even with Nintendo having the decency to leave Diddy Kong out of Mario Kart 8.
Nearly everything else about this game looks and sounds amazing though, so the above isn't too big of a downside.

The roster works if you like babies or are and oldskool gamer who misses the Koopalings. Unfortunately it don't really work if you're not in either category.

Story time. I work at a summer camp during the summer, staying there 5 nights a week for 10 weeks. Last summer whenever people had time off together we'd often play Super Smash Bros 64 and Mario Kart 64, along with at night time when all the kids were gone to bed. While it's unfortunate Smash 4 won't be out at time, I look forward to many fun nights playing Mario Kart 8 with my friends there.
Also, I really hope this game has DLC. All of the courses look fantastic, and if Nintendo keeps with it's one game per system tradition, we won't be seeing Mario Kart 9 for a couple of years at least. So I'm all for new tracks (and retro tracks) being added to Mario Kart 8 with the same level of polish that the on disc ones have.

Mount Wario looks (and sounds) amazing. I'm glad to see they're taking the 1 lap tracks seriously this time and not half assing them like they did in MK7.
On the site you can see an advertisement for Undead Motors with Dry Bowsers face in the logo. Normally I would assume this means nothing like Fuzzy Battery, but Dry Bowser is an actual character and not a generic enemy. I believe that the current roster is the final one, but this might give some hope to those of you who don't.

Baby Rosalina was something expected, But Pink Gold Peach is a waist of time, like Metal Mario. Besides that, the game looks great, and another good direct.

Nintendo needs to sell all their OSTs digitally across the online stories. It's insane that I can't give Nintendo money for something they've already made.
Looks great. I particularly like the forest bit near the end and all the alternate routes which seem to be available.

I refuse to believe Bowser Jr. is not in this game, unless that means that there will be dlc.
In that case I'm hoping that at least the tracks will be free, the WiiU install base is microscopic enough as it is, splitting up the MK8 players with paid track dlc would make that even worse. Characters can be paid, I don't mind since they don't split up anything (I'll only buy boo anyways).

I still can't wrap my head around how good this looks; the tracks, the character models, the lighting... it's really amazing how Nintendo went to make possibly one of the finest looking games in the last ten years using the MK serie, after the graphically so so Wii version...still the biggest surprise this gen for me

I love the changes to the retro tracks this time. Of course they're not completely new tracks, but some might as well be. They change so much with the layouts and opportunities to do fun things between the anti-gravity moments, jumps, tricks, underwater areas, flying, etc. I cannot wait for this. Being able to play through Grand Prix with friends is gonna be awesome too.

Too bloated for my taste, and DK looks especially bad after playing nearly 100 hours of Tropical Freeze over the last two months haha.lol yeah but really, I'm speechless and by no means a newcomer when it comes to graphics. Had it been, say, Galaxy 3, it woulda suprised me less, but MK? Never in a million years could predict that

Oh no worries... I mean nearly EVERYONE is doing it haha. That is a good point though, perhaps a big part of it is the fact that no one really expected it from Mario Kart. Hopefully some other "lesser" Nintendo teams will surprise us like this as well!

I had to ignore his topic about MK8's graphics, which the mods hilariously renamed. We did have a lot of fun gushing over Tropical Freeze though, and bantering about whether the Senator Armstrong fight is amazing or horrible. Good poster though, always upbeat and optimistic.

Rosalina was my main since Mario Kart Wii so I will most likely stick with her. Hopefully there will be a kart/bike to balance her out, considering she is in the heavy class.
