mario kart 8 makes me want a new f-zero.

DLC F-Zero Cup would be a perfect match for this game (SNES, N64, GBA & GCN retro F-Zero tracks).

It seems like they're taking unintentional shortcuts/glitches very seriously.
Good stuff. Thanks. Can't wait to see the rest of your videos.

No problem. I'll have some new footage up tomorrow - probably Yoshi Valley, Rainbow Road N64 or the MK 8 version, and some other stages.

What are the chances Nintendo has the network infrastructure to support the 1 million+ people that will be playing this on release day?

Battle mode is an imported part with mario kart.
Anyway i don't think i will try it in mk8.
Hopefull they will come with a new set of battle mode levels.

I'm sure that the reason is they wanted to use their time to the most important part of the game.

I never played battle mode online for mk7. Which is strange, cause I liked it in the snes version, and the 64. That being said, I think I'm going to have to play it as bowser, in the tiny bug kart, so others can see the wrath of bowser coming at them, in the most adorable way.

Am i the onlly one that never play the battle mode?
Nope, use to love it in 64 but maybe thats when I could finally play it when my mom bought me another controller lol.. played it had fun there...every battle mode afterwards was so-so. I mean DD and shine sprite was ok.. diddy kong racing is the goat of kart battle mode.. Collecting bananas, battle mode, Egg hatching thingy.. lawd.

can't believe they are trying to hide the Miiverse community like we are that stupid not to be able to find it

still Miiverse is one of the best teases ever for these releases

The only Mario Kart -battle mode that I have enjoyed was the one in MK64. Hasn't been the same since.

unfortunately i agree, i kinda liked dd too but MK64 was the only one that we choose cause we wanted to play it rather than the usual, we are burnt out of racing so lets do battle for a bit now.

Just played a bit of Mario Kart Wii again after a year or so. I'm surprised the online mode is still so active, I've got a room with 11 people immediately.
It's a shame it'll be shut down in about two weeks. We should do a final farewell to the Nintendo WFC on GAF before that in some way.

Only if Nintendo could convert all MK: Wii players to MK8.

I really hope it happens. They do have a year long marketing plan for MK8.

iirc the hackers who are currently trying to set up private servers analyzed WFC traffic and found out there are still thousands of people playing MKWii online every day.

1– Does the “Friend” menu online also list “Recent Opponents” like in MK7?
Haven't played online. Sorry.

2– When doing a team VS race/battle online, can you actually choose your team?
Haven't done online. Single-player VS Team matches are random team members.

3– Do you find loading times long? Online, how many seconds does it take before each race?
In single-player, from cup select screen to the race starting is about 8 seconds.

4– Can you vote for any of the 32 tracks in online Tournament lobbies, or just 3 tracks like in Worldwide/Regional?
Can't say for tournaments. Still waiting to get some online matches in.

5– What's this thing in the upper-left corner?
mk8_star-counter-uppeo4q6a.jpg

As for the #/6 * icon you see in the upper left corner, that simply represents your highlight reel and the number of favorites you have saved. You can save 6 highlight reels as your favorites on MKTV. The program itself will show 12 of your most recent highlights.

Thanks a ton. Hopefully online will start to get more populated soon.

So...looks like characters in weight classes possibly don't share the same stats >_>.

http://www.mariokartwii.com/f105/some-new-character-part-stats-136366.html

Example comparing wario and roy. Both heavies.

What drives me nuts about this is that you can't cycle through characters on the same screen there to see the differences. You'd have to back out and re-choose the character and remember what it was before, and if it's different now. Huge fuckin pain if you choose who to race as for stats.

It's been like this for a while.

Oops I meant in the same weight class.

Current known stats so far.

Character Stats (standard kart, standard tires, super glider)
Baby Rosalina: 2.25 speed, 3.25 accel, 2.25 weight, 4.75 handling, 4.5 grip.
Shy Guy, Koopa, Toadette, Wendy, Larry: 2.75 speed, 3 accel, 2.75 weight, 4.25 handling, 4.25 grip.
Waluigi, Roy: 4.25 speed, 2.25 accel, 4.25 weight, 2.75 handling, 3.5 grip.
Metal Mario, Pink Gold Peach: 4.25 speed, 2 accel, 4.75 weight, 2.75 handling, 3.25 grip.
Wario: 4.75 speed, 2 accel, 4.75 weight, 2.25 handling, 3.25 grip.

There's always the possibility that it's like MK7 and there's extra weight classes besides Heavy/Medium/Light, despite what the website says. MK7 also had featherweight (lightest) and cruiser (between medium and heavy) classes - the latter specific has bonus stats similar to Roy... though not exactly identical. Guess we won't know for sure until we get a strategy guide.

Not sure if that's good or bad. Makes me thing he's gonna complain that "the anti-gravity mechanic doesn't add much to Mario Kart and instead makes you wish you were playing F-Zero." or something.

Well, I want MK8, but I can't deny that looking at it makes me want a new F-Zero. Nintendo's putting a lot of graphical oomph into their games lately and the track design in this game looks great. The comparisons to F-Zero are inevitable, especially when Nintendo's own PR copy says "It's the only racing game where you can go upside down in Zero-G!"

Would be convient if they said that lol. looks like there might be atlease 6 weight classes.

No, it hasn't. MK7 all the characters were the same except their individual weight class stats. Here, characters in the same weight class (in this example, Wario and Roy) seem to have different favorable stats.

In MKWii at least, isn't it accepted that for instance, Daisy is slightly faster than other Medium weights? Hence the Daisy + Mach Bike combo being favourable?

That's not a reason. There's voice chat in the lobby, and voice chat in other games throughout.

Could be that voice chat was an 11th hour addition and couldn't be added into races because those system resources were already devoted to MKTV or something.

Just a guess but... between that, arenaless battle mode and the awkward character roster it seems pretty likely that the end of development for MK8 was super rushed.

I feel it was just a design decision.
