The sand/dirt sticking to the tires in Cheep Cheep beach is a nice touch.
While I didn't play Mario Kart 64 all that much, the theme for Toad's Turnpike is one of my favourite tracks in the Mario Kart series, & I'm very happy how the remix had turned out for Mario Kart 8.
Glad it helped. It seems to be a big concern for those who are just joining the Mario Kart community that didn't play Mario Kart Wii/7.
If there's a Nintendo game with a solid online structure, that's Mario Kart.

I actually played the Wii one online quite a bit, but only with random online opponents. I was always amazed how lag free the whole experience was.

That bike drifts inside so you need to learn when to make the turn more subtle.

Ah that inward drifting bike. I know the drift is slightly off from the Wii game but just looking at it it feels the same. Taking away the wheelie really DID slow the bikes down from having easy leads on some of the straight aways.

You get it when you register the Club Nintendo code (or more precisely one or two days later). So you have to wait until you have the game.

I hope they do DLC. Peer and the gang said that they don't want them to waste their manpower, but a team of one or two could churn out some battle mode tracks I would imagine.
Do a best-of Battle Mode tracks (Block Fort, etc.) and release it for $2.99 or something and it'll sell.
They need this game to last, and DLC will help a ton.

And gatdamn this game looks and sounds soooo good. If you showed me this when I was playing Mario Kart on the SNES as a kid my head would have exploded.
That YouTube seems to run pretty choppy, but it still looks good. Just has a bunch of flaws inherent with the capture.
It's going to look so good on TV running at 60.
You would think people would have learned by now to judge graphics by videos and not screenshots. Of course that doesn't excuse the fact it has aliasing when looking at screens, but you are not going to be playing games where you can see each individual frame and notice the aliasing.
I don't know if it would've been quite that easy, but if they'd made a few arenas using nothing but art and music from other tracks in the game it probably wouldn't have been terribly taxing. Even if they only remade stuff like GBA Battle Course 4 or Thwomp Desert they already have a desert track filled with plenty of oasis scenery... You'd think it wouldn't be too much effort to recreate.
Here's hoping anyway, if they really are banking on MK8 to sell systems a little new content every now and then could help it keep treading water.
It's the only major release (that we know of) until Smash (I'm ignoring Bayo because it's not going to sell very well)...they need it to have some serious legs.

They're going to have some pressure to do it because the game I believe is going to have an amazing attach rate.
I don't care if it's free or not, this game looks too good to not take full advantage of.
It seemed like the press had almost a month to review Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze as well. It seems like Nintendo is sending copies to the press well in advanced recently.

I think it was a huge mistake to drop that formidable post-processing anti-aliasing used in Mario 3D World, just to achieve 60FPS in splitscreen mode.

This is what I was thinking. It's going to be hard to keep the game relevant if there's no new content coming out for it. Also the downside to revealing so much information about the game before release is people won't be talking about it as much after it's out. I'm sure they weighed up the pros and cons of that though. Personally I prefer being surprised so I haven't looked at a lot of the tracks that have been announced, but already just knowing who all the characters are going to be kind of dampens my excitement (although that may mainly be because not many of the new characters are interesting to me)
Maybe it's just wishful thinking though. I would love it if we got some new characters or even tracks as DLC. I wonder if people would be angry or happy if Nintendo released a Battle Mode arena DLC. That might be controversial, but I know a lot of people seem disappointed in this one.

Split screen while online was pretty widely user on Wii from what I recall. Very good feature.
