Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Everyone here is a game developer.

We have no idea what they did. Nintendo is stretched VERY thin trying to get games out for the U since they are practically the only ones still left making games for it. They need help to get things done. Namco could have done anything, who the hell knows. Could have some some track modeling, or character modeling, or animation stuff, or programming stuff, or lighting stuff, or texturing stuff.... or online stuff.

We know nothing.

Agreed.

No one claimed to know, though. Just a guess based off Namcos involvement with helping Nintendo with online in the past. Mario Kart 8's online infrastructure has grown, plus MKTV. No one has to be a game developer to make that guess.

Just like if Retro was in the credits, we'd guess that they helped with developing tracks. Doesnt mean that'd be true, though.

Attention GermanGAF:

The sexy Mario Kart 8 Steelbook Edition which was 70€ since its announcement currently sits at 59,99€. I just pre-ordered, but who knows if Amazon keeps the price low. So if you were going to buy MK8 physical anyways - go get it!

Edit: Seems like the price already dropped 3 days ago, so chances are good that it might stay like that until release.

Is that an actual tin-box edition, or just a metal-like finish on a plastic box?

Oh snap. I've been a digital activist for this game since the beginning but if that metal case comes to US I'll have to buy physical. I'm a sucker for those! :(

Maybe not buy out since I notice Japan tends to honor and respect other companies unless they're in dire trouble. Even then I only see mergers.

But I'd love to see Link in a Soul calibur game again!

You know what I'd love to see? A Zelda Souls or a Tales game set in Hyrule!

Actually, Nintendo would own Namco today if it weren't for the Japanese government blocking them the last time they tried to buy them.

It could have also been nothing specifically for MK8, but some borrowed assets or engine work from GP DX.

Until we get an Iwata Asks, it's all conjecture.

I'm REALLY looking forward to read an Iwata Asks about MK8. I'm still so dissapointed we didn't get one for DKC: Tropical Freeze.

Why the hell are <TB HDD's $80 or more? I can't for the life of me find anything on Amazon. Can some kind Gaffer help me out a bit, please. ;(

If you can use external hard drives on Wii U (I'm assuming that's the only way to add more storage) I was able to find one quite easily by doing a search.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E83X9P8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It's the first result under "external hard drives".

Edit: Cheaper 1TB alternative

So who is going digital for this? if you can give explain why would be great.

I am. Digital at midnight is way more convient for me instead of waiting for stores to open/impatient. Added bonus of getting points for nintendo's deluxe digital promotion.

Man I was hardly able to put any time into Mario Kart 7 due to not being able to play for long sessions without my hands hurting. I even bought a 3DS XL but that only slightly improved things. I hope I can actually manage to invest some time into this one.

I might do digital but I'm waiting to see if anybody has a hot deal that week. I won't do the Dell thing because I want the game on release day.

This was what initially turned me off Mario Kart 7 (although the lack of modes was another factor). It didn't take long at all for my fingers to start hurting while playing the game for some reason. Someone on GAF suggested I use Y to accelerate instead of A which helped things a ton. I was able to play it for far longer before my hands started to cramp/thumb started to hurt. I think I would have enjoyed the game even more if I could have used a controller, lol.

Thank god Germany is small enough for amazon to be able to guarantee you a free release date delivery if you pre-order a game. All I have to do that Friday is check my mailbox after waking up. Bonus points for not having any classes on Friday :D

For some reason, Amazon sent me an email saying they upgraded my shipping for MK8 to "release-day delivery" (before, it was 2-day shipping). They've never done that before.

Sorry when I say <TB I meant less than 1TB. Also is your hdd self powered, does it come with a y-cable, or does is it working fine just as it is? The reason I'm asking this is because I'm hearing the WiiU is finicky when it comes to hard drives with just a lone usb cord.

Mine has a Y-cable and works fine, I picked up the cable for a few dollars on Amazon when I got the HDD. It's 500 gb and I picked it up for probably around $50. I could try to find the link if it's still available and you're interested.

This is a nice 500GB option:

As for your question, I don't quite understand it. The external hard drive that I have came with a dock where you seat the hard drive onto it and it connects it to the hardware via USB. It also came with just a standard USB cable to hook it up.

It really depends on what hard drive you buy. I'd assume most hard drives don't have a docking option.

I'm going digital because I'm extremely lazy when it comes to video games. I'll walk miles to get quality art supplies, but don't even bother me about going to gamestop.

It's just so much more convenient than waiting five days for a package to arrive or driving to a retail store.

Btw is there any thread where we can exchange Nintendo IDs? I wanna play MK with you guys! :)

Walmarts preorder bonus...

Walmart is offering a pair of items with Mario Kart 8 pre-orders. If you reserve Nintendo’s racer at the retailer, you’ll be given a “PowerA Wii Mario Kart 8 Racing Wheel” as well as $4.99 in VUDU movie credits. The latter bonus will be sent out via email.

Nintendo recommends a hdd with a y-cabe to provide more power to the hdd or a self powered hdd (power cord). A singular usb cable usually wont cut it. this is what I'm hearing, I'm just trying to be cautious. Plus I'm not paying $80 for hard drive at GS. thanks for the tip sorry to take it off-topic.

Never heard of Y-Cables before which is why I got confused, lol.

At least now I know if I ever want to go digital that I should keep this in mind.

Really? where do you buy them?

Anywhere, their price range (new) is about 900 at random stores and 1000 at "gaming" stores.

I bought my wii u zelda edition for 4500$ mexican pesos.330 Dollars~. and 4 pro controllers would be around 3600-400$, so yea gaming is pretty expensive down here, seriusly thinking to just make a friend bring me games from usa (i live in monterrey, close to the usa border).

sorry about the off-topic guys!

My Sonic knowledge for MK8 only reached as far as what i posted.

Now that you mention it, Toad Harbor does have Sonic vibes.
