Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Nice, reviews have me hyped!
This is your chance to redeem yourself Jim.... Ha ha.
I havent forgotten how you thought MK7 wasnt innovative, yet MW3 was clearly so much innovative, ha ha. The one big flaw you have so far from me, ha ha.
 
I'm still worried about balancing, because in all the MK8 videos I've watched online, I have yet to see someone come back from last place to win a race. It's always a race among the top 2 or 3, and that's no fun... to play or to watch.

So, for those of you who have played the game, can you still claw your way to the top after following behind?

That's part of the balance but I have to say that your fear isn't far from the truth. You can definitely climb up but it's a little harder and almost impossible during the last lap. I like it this way though.

Nintendo responding to that feedback with actual content would be amazing.

And it's not bad content. It's a lack of content, in the sense that tracks were recycled as BM stages. The game is very consistently getting flat 9/10 scores. Makes me think that the ADDITION of content that people are asking for could theoretically elevate the game to a post-release 10/10.

MK deserves it. C'mon Nintendo.

That said BM has always taken the back seat to racing, for me anyway, so I'm ready to enjoy the full package of goodness that Nintendo has already put together with MK8.

I rarely played the battle mode so it really doesn't matter for me

I don't think you can count being hit by a banana/Bob-Omb to not be hit by a Spiny Blue Shell as a cancel.

Best way is still that 'Deal with it' Koopa using a Mushroom gif.

Edit: It's actually a 'Fuck the police' gif and he drives over the Mushroom on the ground:

This is assuming a game starts at a ten and points are just subtracted when it messes up. That's likely not the case with most reviewers. Even if it had no negatives it still could have only been a 9/10 in this reviewers book.

If so, that's pretty awful, IMO. Part of the appeal of Mario Kart is that anyone has a chance to win (at least anyone at a similar skill level). If you get knocked off course or spin out at the start of the race, it shouldn't prevent you from winning.

It sounds like the items are not properly balanced? People in the back should (on average) get better items then people in the front, and if these items are used properly, you should be able to claw your way back to the front of the pack (as long as you're not like an entire lap behind).

This works perfectly in MK7 (at least when playing online with 7 or 8 people... balance kinda breaks if it's only 4 or 5).

We might hear something in an Iwata Asks or even at E3. Fingers crossed.

I want to this game to have long legs and be rich with content for years. May be asking a bit much if Ninty has other projects to work on. I don't know.

Beat 50cc and 100cc cups, one for each character.

One of the reviews (Kotaku I think) mentions the he had all the characters before going into 150cc.

I actually have managed to dodge a Spiny Shell in Mario Kart Wii with a banana. I still have no idea how it happened.

I have heard people say that MK8 will not get DLC because nothing in the menu screen indicates a placeholder for it.

I am just wondering how smart is this idea?

Did Pikmin 3's menu give you a hint of coming DLC?

How hard is it to revamp a damn menu screen anyways?

serious question not making fun of people who think DLC is not coming because of menu or shop

No. When they released the first DLC they updated also the game, the menu specifically to include the places for the new missions. Actually they updated the game too with each DLC they released.

NSMBU had no shop menu. It grew one after an update, to download NSLU. So no, the lack of a shop button means nothing.

In fact, the GP screen with clear room for 4 more circuits, the multiplayer map screen with room for another row of maps, and the character select screen with room for another row of characters, may suggest the opposite.

Though when you choose GP the list of trophies on the bottom-right of the screen doesn't seem to have any more room, so I dunno. WE'LL SEE!
 
Pro tip: Go to the Mario Kart 8 Community on your Wii U, tick "High Quality Playback" and watch some Mario Kart TV videos. Just fantastic!
