Do you think it will fracture the online community tho? Adding newer characters and maps? Characters I guess they could patch the game so that everyone could see them but not have access to them unless they paid for additional characters..
If they released battle maps I feel that everyone would abandon the standard maps for the battle ones and people who dont want to pay for DLC wont be able to enjoy online battle mode at all?

If Nintendo feel like DLC would more value to the game, then they will, and Mario Kart 8 is a great game to give extra tracks/battle arenas/characters, just like Mario Golf on 3DS has done.
My goodness, this game being 720p with no AA is going to ruin the visuals. This is how it looks in upscaled to 1080p which is the resolution of the TV I'll be playing it on.
I just noticed the PAL ad. I wonder what it stands for? Paratroopa Airline?
Did you guys see GameXplain's video?

I read a comment in one of the reviews that it was a common issue and this video just confirms it with André saying they also had the same problem.

Stretching to upscale on a computer tends to look a whole lot worse than the upscaling you'll see on a half-decent HDTV

It will look much better than that lol .. some pictures uploaded have compression and arent exactly the right quality. Also you sit alot further from your tv than you do your monitor so it wont be an issue...
Are you pausing the game and looking for jaggies? People said the same thing about SM3DW and that game on my 65 inch 1080p tv looks sharp and crisp with no issues.
go into setting on your WiiU and make sure the option is set at 1080p the WiiU will take care of the rest
Goodness no man. I noticed how bad it looks so I paused it and did a screen capture.
It is. Hopefully you're right. We'll see.
If the game looked that bad someone including eurogamers would have noticed it ... Go to your local gamestop demo day this weekend?

Anyone know the eshop price here in the UK?
I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere so far, unless I've just missed something blatantly obvious?
Nah, I'm getting the game regardless, so it doesn't mean a HUGE deal to me.
£49.99
Well the moment you paused is actually a static moment.
At least it seems it's not the kind of glitch that allows you to skip a portion of the track.
The Wii U scaler is great, much like the 360 one was.
Whatever it's doing, it's doing a good job.
Have you played SM3DW?
Are the reviewers that have played the game able to do online matches? or are they restricted to local multiplayer right now?

How much in Japanese currency?
In Japan it's 5700yen (6156yen with Tax included) at retail. Not sure abut the eShop price. The UK eShop price is equivalent to about 8500yen.
£49.99
Ouch.
Was seriously considering the digital copy for ease of use but amazon have it listed at £39 so that's decided that for me. Even with the 10% back for buying on the eshop it still doesn't work out any better. Shame really.

Pro tip: Go to the Mario Kart 8 Community on your Wii U, tick "High Quality Playback" and watch some Mario Kart TV videos. Just fantastic!
Regarding Jaggies, I'm not sure what Nintendo does, but the screen shots from SM3DW have the same effect, but is unnoticeable in motion.

Every. Single. Person and review mention's how beautiful this game is in motion.
Is there an "official" Mario Kart 8 Nintendo ID sharing thing? Or is the OT going to end up facilitating that? I have no friends on my Wii U but would like to play with GAFers once it's out.
I didn't know it was made public yet. I can't find it through browsing or searching on the web version.

We should definitely do this. The Mario Golf thread has been doing it and it's been really nice having a pretty constant community to play with.Is there an "official" Mario Kart 8 Nintendo ID sharing thing? Oh yeah, that's true. Shame that wasn't brought over from Golf.Yeah, and since there isn't communities in this game, we'll need to add each other for MK8.
Ouch.
