I mean, look at stone-texture detail in the tunnel. <3
The game is shaping up way too nicely, what's the catch???
(yeah, I know, Battle Mode)

There still won't be any single player modes worth a damn

Hopefully the game is less rushed overall than MK7.
I think, ideally, Mario Kart would trounce Diddy Kong Racing in single-player modes. What would you like to see? I'm honestly interested. I'd like to see some an extensive mission mode or challenges. I really enjoy those. Especially if they made some latter missions really hard like they did in NSMBU for example.
I can see the argument regarding how Nintendo was in hurry to get MK7 out but how does it show in the game? I put like 70 hours into that game and think it was a pretty polished package in general.
No hyperbole at all. Go and play Sonic Racing Transformed on 360. Sub HD, no Vsync, 30 fps tops which drops to the low 20's and the graphics esp the lighting pales in comparison to MK8.
MK8 wouldn't be possible on PS360 just like Shadow Fall, Second Son or Ryse wouldn't be possible on WiiU without massive sacrifices having to be made to almost every aspect of the game... get over it.
Wait the Rainbow Road that has been shown isn't this games real Rainbow Road?

I'm not saying it looks rushed, but the corners that could be cut are not things we have seen yet. Poor single-player modes, maybe. Online could be bad or not varied or does not have the options it should have. It could be rushed in a lot of ways. We haven't seen if they are or aren't yet.
I mean why did you feel that Mario Kart 7 was rushed when playing it? Seems like you are talking about 8 in that quote.
MK8 is running at 720p, isn't it?
I think Ps3 and Xbox360 would be capable of running the game at 60FPS.
Those machines are pretty powerful, much more powerful than one would expect after seeing some random multiplat releases, but if you take at look at the optimised, exclusive games you see the things these consoles can do.
What makes MK8 look so great is the amazing artstyle. While here are a lot of games which are technically more demanding than MK8, most of them just do not look as good MK8.
Wii U is more powerful, has more RAM and a more modern feature set. No, 360 and PS3 would not be able to run it with the same visual fidelity and performance. Not possible, for the exact same reason Wii U couldn't run Second Son.
Ideally, I love like a "Career" mode like Transformed with special challenges and things to shoot for besides just beating the AI, or a "Story" mode like F-Zero GX, maybe some 1v1 boss encounters, mission mode, IDK, SOMETHING. I know this is primarily a multiplayer franchise, I get that, but it would be cool to have something else besides Grand Prix and Time Trials for the upteenth time. Maybe have Sakurai stop by the offices and design some fun single player stuff like he does for Smash Bros or something.
Mario Kart 8 looks gorgeous but it's still PS360 levels of graphics. The system has some advantages in certain areas and drawbacks in others, but the best of those consoles looks just as good if not better.

More than anything, Mario Kart 8 feels like a continuation Mario Kart 64's look. Double Dash and MK Wii always looked off, because they had that weird flat, cell-shaded lighting going on.
To put it other way, MK8 looks like what I thought MK64 looked like 18 years ago:

Can you produce some sort of backing for this? Like in-game screengrabs from comparable games from the last generation of consoles, noting their native resolution and framerate and any lighting and texturing disparities? This game has a simple and clean look to it but the texturework appears to be great and there's very few analogues for this sort of lighting on those consoles, probably as a result of Wii U's modestly upgraded hardware allowing access to new lighting and shading methods that weren't available before. I mean there are a handful of games from last generation that are just flat out gorgeous and appear to transcend the limitations of their hardware (like, for example, certain notable third person shooters) but unless you want to compare different genres which as I noted before changes things completely this is a game that pretty handily surpasses the games most like it. I don't believe that the tech behind building the game is anything near as sophisticated as say a Forza 4 but as I mentioned before even that game have identifiable flaws from the 60fps gameplay (not replay) footage what with texture filtering being relegated to the immediate vicinity and background elements the game wants you to notice. I bet this look could be approximated with PS3/360 power but it certainly wouldn't make it through unscathed
so sonic racing its the best the ps3 or 360 can do? right? a third party sega game...yeah dude..
hey dude...the difference on ps3 wiu games is not the difference on wiiu games vs ryse or infamous...so no
i dont know if its possible to do this game on the ps3...neither you... we got things like wipeout at 1080p 60 fps..so sub hd..no vsyc..30 fps..yeah...whatever suits your hiperbole
When can we expect Wii U to hit US$200? I want one for MK, Zelda and SSB but can't justify going over 200 for three IPs.
I never saw anything like that for the 360 or ps3. Cant remember such beautiful lightning and that with 60FPS.
I think you are feeding the troll.
God of War, Uncharted, Halo 4, Last of Us, Puppeteer, Gears of War, Viva Piñata, MGS:GZ. Gorgeous games with brilliant lighting and doing more on screen in many cases than MK8 (but less frame rate)
Mario Kart looks great for many reasons but it's not really pushing anything that last gen couldn't do. There's great artistic direction and attention to detail that brings the game to life.

Maybe he just has mental health issues or issues with his eyesight or something./
It's the only other explanations that I can come up with lol.
I did predict reactions like this a while ago saying could release a game that looks like the best thing since sliced bread and you'll still have some people denying that the Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 and 360 lmfao. You really couldn't make it up lol.
Along with Infamous Second Son they're the two best looking games of generation so far imo.

Nah, Wipeout HD is very comparable to MK8 and always runs at a higher resolution, too
For as good as Wipeout HD (my favorite racing game last gen by far) looked its lighting was nowhere near as involved as this, mostly bloomy hdr with bump mapped track and ship surfaces and some weapons (but not ship jets etc) casting light and particles. Everything that could get baked in was so that the hardware itself would have to do as little as possible when it comes to lighting. All used to great effect alongside that framebuffer and looots of opportunities to tile textures and features onto background objects. It's a damn good looking game but you can tell what the art style and engine is conducive to any time you race in a map set in some sort of natural environment (Sol excluded) as opposed to some abstract-as-fuck future sprawl. As pointless as responding to this is, still Modnation Racers an exclusive 1st party title was also among the list of comparisons and that in no way looks comparable visually.
Wipeout HD used a Dynamic framebuffer to maintain that 60fps and even then it still suffered from tearing, plus in all honesty apart from Resolution (Which may or may not be the case if MK8 is actually 1080p) what exactly does Wipeout HD beat MK8 in graphically that would now allow the PS3 to run MK8 with little difference?

Hear, hear! We can dumb down this argument still further:I agree with this, the Wii U is a more advanced and efficient PS3/360 with a little more memory, why so few games look better than on 360/PS3, more than a year after the system was released ?
i think the game looks good mostly because of the art direction, but the games will never be beyond those graphics, the system was not designed that way.
Is "It looks good because of art style/direction" or "looks good but not on a technical level" going to be the new "it looks good.... for a Wii game" any time a good looking WiiU game is revealed?
Well, there is a big power difference between the Nintendo console and the other consoles, just like last generation, so that's not surprising.

Hear, hear! We can dumb down this argument still further:
Q1: How many ps360 games using deferred shading engines do you know? List them.
Q2: How many of those run at 720p/60?
What was singleplayer like in DKR? Never played that to be completely honest.
"It's a different kind of chip and it's not fair to look at its clock-speed and other consoles' clock-speed and compare them as numbers that are relevant. It's not a relevant comparison to make when you have processors that are so divergent. It's apples and oranges." - Criterion
Put it to rest already, folks.
The "it looks horrible on my HDTV" argument shouldn't apply anymore though![]()
MKDS tried something like this -- Mission Mode had you collecting coins, etc., and knocking out bosses like Goomboss and Chief Chilly. I'd love to see an expanded and refined version of this.Ideally, I love like a "Career" mode like Transformed with special challenges and things to shoot for besides just beating the AI, or a "Story" mode like F-Zero GX, maybe some 1v1 boss encounters, mission mode, IDK, SOMETHING.
