Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Official Thread

Huh? Are you sure? I remember making the star not fit, so all I had to do was bump the block again to deactivate the extra leg I created.

Same here, I accidentally hit a block I'd already hit and it generated that particular cut again. I didn't recollect it though so it didn't force me to go back to the most current cut again thankfully.

Tell me about it. :(

Are there any bosses that anyone didn't think was a joke difficulty wise? I haven't had the slightest trouble with any of them. The last one I fought was
Blizzard Midbus

Sadly, I won't be finishing the last bit right away as I've been drawn to ODST. I'll probably finish it after completing SP in ODST when friends aren't becknoning me to play with them.

Fighting Bowser seemed tricky enough. I died once. One thing about the Mario and Luigi games is that they're really punishing if you have one of your bros die, since it makes dodging attacks much, much harder. I died in the Bowser battle because I let Mario die and then it was just a matter of me missing a few dodges.

Yep, all of the bosses were quite easy. However, the one I had the hardest time with was the boss
Tower of Yikk
. This was mainly because once in a while the touch screen would fail to register my stylus touch and I'd get hit by the enemy's attack. In addition, it was a long drawn out battle because I could barely knock the dude back by my punches (not sure if I was doing it right though).

By the way, if you guys haven't tried it out yet, the giant shell item is incredibly useful. I have it equipped to Mario and no enemy has been able to do any damage to him including bosses.

So I noticed something and I'm wondering if it's a reference to Phoenix Wright 1, or japanese popular culture. I'm assuming the latter.

At Bowser's castle for what I'm assuming is the first time. Theres a Dry bones that mentions trading Fawful cards, and how you can trade 10 rare cards for an Ultra Super Premium

Hmm were you getting at least "Great" with your punches? If you were only getting ok's, that's probably why he didn't fly back very far. I imagine that would suck if you couldn't dodge that one attack from your stylus not working properly.

I was stuck at the
Fawful Express
and not because it was even remotely hard, but because I was a freakin moron that had no idea how to use the mic properly. I thought you were supposed to just speak into it from a comment the game made earlier and that had always been good enough to blow the small enemies away in the previous battles, but obviously in this battle fire is the primary method of attack. I then figured out you could blow into it...but then I was blowing point blank for what I 'thought' was maximum effect...still not cutting it....AT LAST I figured out you were supposed to blow from a few inches away from the screen. Why the hell didn't the game give a tutorial for this? This may have been obvious to some but I've never used the mic before. I was pretty frustrated until I figured this out and then I slaughtered the boss...only to accidentally turn the system off when I meant to adjust the volume during the following cutscene...forcing to fight it again. Thank god it was easy after learning to use the mic correctly. That boss was my bane for a short while hahaha Perhaps I'd know my DS's features better if this wasn't only the second game I've purchased for it.

I put about 3 hours into this last night.

I love Bowser soooo much. I burst out laughing at the first "SHOWTIME" boss fight.

"I'LL MAKE A BRIDGE OR SOMETHING. BECAUSE I GET THINGS DONE."

"We've shot hundreds of Banzai Bills at Mario over the years!"

Giant Carrot munchoff.

:lol This stuff is just gold.

1) Not the first game to utilize the mic, obviously. Though this clearly doesn't apply to you, since this is only your second DS game.
2) Common sense. They're not going to FORCE you use the mic "point blank" because it would make it quite difficult to actually follow what's happening with the game. It's not a stretch to realize that the devs of the hardware and software would have considered this.
3) Finally, there's a mic test right there in the title screen for you to goof off with in case you aren't sure. You could have tried different positions and used the real time feedback to find a comfortable position (for you) that also works for the game.

1. That's why I mentioned it was only my second game on the DS.

2. It's not common sense, even at the proper distance, I couldn't see what the hell was going on and had to look at the HP bar after the attack to determine if I got an excellent or not.

3. Indeed there is, and I was able to get the maximum with my first method but it did not produce the same results in the actual game so apparently that test is worthless *shrug*

Edit: I exaggerated a bit with my phrasing when I said I did it form point blank range so that probably sounded more foolish. I was just too close, but my face certainly wasn't touching the device :lol

2) Of course it's common sense. On stage, you don't shove a mic down your throat to make yourself audible. These things are SUPPOSED to be used from a distance. If you couldn't see what was going on, on-screen, then you most certainly were NOT the proper distance away!
3) Fail yet again! Optimal reception is 3 blocks on the test, not the max of 4 blocks!

I just ran the test myself, and I was able to get a comfortable, consistent 3 blocks on the test by holding the DS a full foot away from my face, without any effort. Basically, from my normal gaming position. As common sense would dictate.

I thought my edit explained that I didn't have the mic that close to my face, I may have exaggerated the first time. I had it at a distance that did not contradict common sense, so again, it wasn't common sense that I should have to hold it even further. You state that it should be obvious because I couldn't see the action on the screen, well guess what? I still couldn't when I did it correctly and got all Excellents. It appears I could have held it even further to where I could see it from your comments which would be the most enjoyable, but I still got excellents from that distance, so clearly it's all relative. The game should have explained it period, no excuses. That you've played other games and didn't have an issue doesn't excuse this fact.

First time posting in this thread...haven't read any other post (except OP)...not sure how far into the game I am, but I'm fucking loving it.

Scribblenauts has taken a back seat for the time being.

btw... I find something missing from this thread's title.... I think it should be something like

That effin cow block needs to chill out gosh. I got 206 the first time and can't get any higher :( I always start messing up around 190.

Beat it yesterday, great game although I was really hoping for something different in the final boss encounter.
All Three on the same screen working together would've been epic
.

Is PiT worth playing or it just more annoying than anything else?

Awwwwwwwwwwww at the ending. <3

So what kind of post-game content is there available? I already beat
the shroobs
. I just don't wanna finish with this title already. :(

Bowser owns everyone. Plus I find the back and forth to be an excellent pacing mechanic to break up the gameplay.

Why can't Miyamoto be a little more democratic and let in some of this scripting genius into all Mario games? It'd be whimsical, and fun!

It has no place outside of text heavy RPG's.
I'd still appreciate it. I dunno, the boss fights in Galaxy certainly could've done with a little text (fading text bubbles - think Toads in Galaxy) to make them more memorable, especially the Bowser/Baby Bowser fights, which were nothing but grunts. And going back to the Toads, even cameos could do for more interesting dialogue. Even though it obviously isn't the main focus in a platformer, why not give them something fun to say? Why did Galaxy have to be so silently serious, as opposed to having funny little quips?

I've always appreciated the writing in the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games, and it just strikes me as odd that they can't add some of the flavour to their main titles.

They aren't even that fun for the most part. I actually get annoyed when I have to play with them. Loving Bowza though!

Not that I have anything to say that has't been said already, but I just finished it and felt I needed to say that this is the best in the series so far and one of the best Mario rpg's. I absolutely loved that they focused on Bowser so much. It was a blast from beginning to end. The difficulty was just right, the length of the game as well, music was great, battlesystem refined to perfection, great dialogues.

The only thing that could have been better were the badge- and equipment systems. There are almost no badges that are worthwhile, I just stuck with the healing one and got a Great Badge for Luigi. Same with the equipment. There are a fair few pieces of gear around, but almost all of them are terrible and worthless. The only things really worth upgrading are your shell/ slacks.

Still: best DS rpg so far and also one of the best of the last few years.

Beat the game twice.

The only stats I chose to upgrade were power and special.

There's really no need to invest stats in speed or defense in my opinion.
