Mario Maker will let you create Mario 3 and Mario World style levels.

Now I just want the ability to pack levels together into whole games. There is no way they allow over world's but whole game support would be nice.

So I'm starting to think the idea behind this is more that you make levels where the players have to change the style to beat the level. Like to get past a certain part, you'd have to wall jump as NSMB and then switch to SMW to get the cape to get across a large canyon in another part, you know? Kind of adds a puzzle game element to the whole thing.

If I get this game, it will be to only play Kaizo Mario World style levels.... provided this game allows for downloaded level designs. Nintendo, you WILL be allowing downloadable user created levels... right? Nintendo? >.>

Looks neat, but at the same time, my first thought was "indie platformer design". I hope this thing comes with a bunch of rad Nintendo-designed stages (and not just bite sized ones), otherwise, can't say I'm interested.

I kind of doubt there will be a lot of those worth playing.

Still looks like it might be NSMB physics with various tilesets, but I could be wrong. Looks like they let you freely switch between all the tilesets. Would the game really be able to instantly change the physics like that too?

I'm just playing 3D World finally and am blown away by how amazing it is. My Mario hype levels are peaked and it's only amplifying my pumpage for this game! Should be huge by all accounts.

I hope for two things:

Longer stage lengths than what was shown at e3. They were really short at that time...

An online system like the Mario v DK games where I can vote on and download the best user created levels.

This trailer seems to calm my fear about it seeming to have very basic options. Being able to use any sprite with Bullet Bill launchers is neat.
Edit: Also everything is not SMB physics like it was at E3.

Game looks great. I hope they can discuss the game sharing elements, and the music maker they were planning on including. Is it just me, or are the NSMBU models shinier? Mario looks a bit weird.

The real question is:

Do these original mario platformer palettes include their original physics? If so, Mario World levels will be so fucking awesome.

So considering the game plays the same regardless of the graphics used, I wonder what wall jumps look like with non-NSMB graphics and the racoon tail with non-SMB3 graphics.

Really hope they provide the option for each game to have its original physics as well.

I mean it's neat and it allows players to play created levels in the style they like, but it just seems such a waste to have four different tile sets with the same physics.

Definitely agree with you. Super Mario Bros. 3 was such a joy to play. The physics were my favorite IMO. Would love to play custom levels with those feels.

Is it just me or did it look like the different visual styles actually had their unique game physics? That was a big concern when the game was revealed. Everyone said regardless of style it felt like NSMB.

Do people actually want to create their own levels? Seems like the kind of thing that would be fun to mess around with for a little while, but then once you realize how hard it is to make a good level you give up and move on.

I used to play Super Mario Flash a lot and had a great time coming up with difficult levels for my friends to play. So, I imagine I'd still have a lot of fun with this game.

Pretty hyped about this. I'm so glad there are Mario World style levels. I can't wait to see what people come up with and I assume that Nintendo will have a healthy dose of their own levels a la LBP to show people the way.

Press release is out

The public got its first look at Mario Maker for Wii U during the E3 video game trade show in June, and new details about the game, which lets users create their own Mario levels, were announced at The Game Awards. This includes the ability to tap the Wii U GamePad screen to change the look of the level design to a number of classic styles, including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. Each style includes game mechanics unique to the original game, such as ground-pound or wall-jump maneuvers. Players can integrate these mechanics into designs for the various titles featured in the game. This game will launch in 2015, which will be the 30th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game.

That's great news. I think that's a change from what they said at E3. I hope they are really careful about replicating the physics from each game as closely as possible.

This went from Day 1 to holy shit give it to me now.

I used to make my own levels using nothing but lego blocks and my own imagination back in the day.

This is going to be fantastic.

Watching this segment during the Game Awards only reinforced to me that I'm a ridiculous Mario fanboy. Can't wait.

Nice catch :D

I hope the actual physics work the way they did in the originals... otherwise the NSMB taint is going to ruin everything.

I wonder if they'll let you write your own songs as well? That's probably reaching, but it would be cool to have. Thinking something not much more complex than Electroplankton.

This + Zelda U has me on board 100% for a Wii U in 2015.

Much more interested now that mechanics differ from style to style. Some really unique challenges could arise from having to swap styles on the fly.

...I'd love to see the videos when someone eventually makes a Kaizo Mario redux (I think with the inclusion of SMW, it has to happen at some point) or an automatic Mario (a la the famous one that's originally from Nico Nico Douga).
