Mario Party 3DS: Winter 2013

CPU can take over until someone else joins and takes the spot.

Not sure if Mario Party works well with players coming and going. Why would I want to jump into a game where some dude has messed up everything for my character?

Dat Gamecube-level assets. Looks great for a handheld.

i've never understood why you'd want Mario Party on a handheld. but hey, it looks great!

Because it's Mario Party on a handheld. :P

I never got into this series, and I'm not exactly hurting for 3DS games. If it gets really good reviews, I'll get it.

I agree with Nintendo that Mario Party is better in person than it would be online...

... but it'd be better online than against computers and better online than sitting on a shelf unplayed.

Online capability makes this the first Mario Party worth getting excited for in a long time.

None of my friends would sit down and play on the couch multiplayer Mario Party, now. I think most 20~ year old males can say the same. And who the hell plays Mario Party alone?

Edit: Apparently it's not confirmed yet. Dammit.

This needs to have online or else there's no point of having it on a handheld, i don't think i could find 4 people with 3DSs just to play a game that would be better on a console.

Also, it would be pretty stupid if this doesn't have online when they have a console that is seriously in need of more games and that lends itself for multiplayer.

It's been a long time since I've played Mario Party. I'll be a lot less motivated to get this if there's no online, but I'll admit I'm interested.

Would online play even be feasible for this game. Some of the mini-games use the AR function on the 3DS.

Well, it would be nice if it has online, but its not a deal breaker to me if it doesn't.

Edit
I don't think hour-long online Mario Party games would work well. What if halfway through someone disconnects?

It would be cool if it had some sort of online mode though, maybe just playing individual mini-games online against three other people.

yeah, that seems more feasible

Honestly, they could easily cut those mini-games out of online MP then if it doesn't work out.

I'd rather have most of the mini-games in online MP than no online MP at all. And to clarify, I'm not saying to cut the AR mini-games out completely, I just mean to keep them only for offline/local play. That way there IS some incentive to play local MP anyway (besides playing with your friends, of course).

There better be single cart play.

I do remember having a good time in high school on a senior trip playing mario party ds with like 3 people on the bus.

I see no scenario right now where I can experience this again lol.

Yeah it's no problem in say a figthing game, because the matches are a couple of minutes. Some MP sessions may last hours!

No online for this game would feel so wrong. I can't believe they would pull this off, especially in these times where they are finally 'embrassing' a more online-based infrastructure.

wait what
is this confirmed? ._.

No it's not confirmed, it's speculation right now because they didn't mention it. All they mentioned was local play. Which usually when Nintendo only confirms local play, it means we won't get online play.

But I'd loved to be proved wrong, Nintendo.

if anyone played mario party ds 4 player local, it is absolutely so much fun.

fast paced, which later games on the GC werent.
single cart ds play for every mode, which is awesome.
loads of great mini games.

this looks great, if it does have online, it needs some form of communication. not really a party otherwise huh

I have doubts that this will have online play since they were so mum on it, and they talked about online when it came to Mario Golf too.

But excited nonetheless for another Mario Party! DS one was just as fun on a handheld.

I really don't see this as an online game. I don't know if I'd want to commit to an online game that takes so long and is so involved, knowing they could drop out at any point. It's not like drop-in gameplay works for Mario Party.

The only thing I could imagine for online multiplayer is like a mini-game show-down modes.

With that said, this looks like the best Mario Party in years. It looks like a total refresh, and the mini-games look great.

Game looks beautiful. Even without online I might still pick it up. The minigames looks awesome and I really just can't get over the visuals. Mario Party DS was pretty dope.

Yep. It doesn't make sense for a handheld party game to not offer online. I love the MP series but won't buy on a hanheld unless I can play online. Shame... This one looks really fun.

Mario Golf just gots its online mode announced and ND Cube (developers of this) have been hiring for network-related positions, so I'm hopeful.

Wait, you mean it's confirmed there's no online?
I'd hope if there was they would scream about from the rooftops. Then again Nintendo do like to do this thing where they surprise us with an info dump starting a few months before release.

So basically its an unknown now. I'd put the chances slightly higher than Mario Golf World Tour having an RPG mode but not significantly so.

If no online, dismissed without further consideration. It's 2013 ffs.

I want online too, but I know it would be as disappointing as online Monopoly. Noone would finish a game. Who wants to stick around to see their lead of 20 stars wittled away on those hilarious end game Mario Party rules.

"Luigi has NO stars.... so Peach has to give him 5 of hers!"

The game isn't coming out till the end of the year; there's plenty of time for more information to be trickled out. If they want to get people excited about online multiplayer, they'll probably wait until a handful of months prior to release.

Well there is still time for them to announce online multiplayer. Mario Golf just announced its online today and Luigi's Mansion's online mode wasn't made known until earlier this year.

This I agree with. Maybe they will announce online later.
