MARIO + RABBIDS: Kingdom Battle |OT| XCOM on mushrooms

Just finished up the first world and defeated Rabbid Kong, the game is really fun to play and there were moments that made me and my little brother laugh.

I also tried out Luigi, swapping out his Rabbid counterpart, and while he has low HP his sniper skill is really useful with Mario hero shot, shame that I will have to get rid of him later down the line.

He would serve as a talking robot when he needs to explain things, popping up every once in awhile. Controlling him in the overworld is so clumsy and imprecise, especially when doing this block sliding puzzles and blue cannon level challenges. Just let me control one of the rabbits or mario himself while running around.

Agreed, I failed one of the blue room challenge not because I messed up but because Beep-O is just so hard to control in the overworld due to being so small and naturally I thought that I was controlling Mario.

sometimes the floaty controls on this roomba make me want to smash my fucking controller into tiny bits

sometimes i accidentally enter a long pipe again when i didnt mean to and i am like guess i will go take a nap

sometimes when i am restarting for perfects i yell at my tv to hurry the fuck up because i dont need to see the goddamn pan over the battlefield I JUST WANNA PLAY AHHHH

fun game though

Maybe you should take a break if it's angering you that much!

I'm just done going back to world 2 to wrap up the challenges and starting on the challenges in world 3. I think my main team going forward will be Mario, Rabbid Luigi and Rabbid Yoshi. RLuigi is just too damn good overall to not have in the team, and his vamp dash turns him into the team healer as well. RYoshi needs to be in because he's just too cute. I just wish we could replace Mario sometimes, he often feels like the far weakest link.

I feel like I'm missing out on Peach due to her defensive support abilities, there's no time to focus too much on healing if I'm aiming for a perfect score. Rabbid Peach is more or less out of my roster for the same reason, but at least she has some great dashing capability.

World 2-S beat, first time my "rush in first think later" team of Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi didn't work out. Switched out Rabbid Mario for long range Steely Stare machine Luigi and beat them easily. This team seems OP when Steely Stare can shoot for massive damage from long range and Rabbid Luigis vamp abilities heal so much every turn.
Felt good when I beat this one with my team intact (Rabbid Peach and Luigi is who I used)... but I did it in +1 turn, so I didn't get the Perfect. Will have to remedy that later. Fun battle!

My only real gripe with this game so far is the damn robot used to lead your group across the map. I Haaaaaaaaaaaate that damn thing. Half the time I can't see shit which becomes an annoying problem when attempting to do a challenge that requires SPEED! Small potatoes really, but damn this game would be perfection if they would put that thing in the back instead of the front.

Yeah, Mario should lead the team

No problems with the robot but I'd love more camera freedom. Game is way too stuck on specific camera angles, and when you can control it, you can't control it that much.

Even the 3D figures don't rotate vertically :p

Oh agreed, the camera is the worse and it gets in the way of both combat and exploration, with the former being worse as sometime it become difficult to see the percentage as it would be slightly off screen.

I wouldn't have any complaints about the camera if we could just zoom in or out a bit while roaming (and zoom out a lot in battles!)... Guess it has to do with rendering but it's really limiting!

I'm cool with beep-o. He's a personification of the cursor used to control your characters. Just like the Lakitu was the camera in Mario 64 or Navi was the lock on in OoT. He serves as a good way to introduce people to the world. And it's good to have one characters that can talk. And the writing is good enough that he's kinda funny sometimes.

Also it's not hard to control in the over world. Like, at all. You move it around like any other character. Don't know what all y'alls problem is.

I don't get the control complaints, but I think beep-0 is a bad and kind of annoying character.

It's minor, but I would've been happier if it was just silent protagonist Mario leading the charge.

Finally got back to this after a busy weekend and finished the world 3 midboss. Went with Peach and Rabbid Luigi and just kept the focus on the midboss for a high risk change of pace and pulled it off well.

Honestly unless Odyssey really blows my expectations out of the water this is probably my GOTY. The games been an absolutely blast to play and the campaign provides a good challenge alongside the bonus levels on top of being a crazy idea executed insanely well. Most of my grievances are very minor with this one as well.

I've always wondered why game developers felt people enjoy these puzzles. Why not try something else instead.

Jeez, yeah! Pokemon was the first thing that came to mind as well, I hate those dumb ice puzzles.

Also the first thing that came to mind when I saw Luigi's secondary was this:

Watching Mario and Luigi juggle enemies with their overwatch is a thing of beauty, especially when you're the one who initiates the chain with a bounce attack.

Dead before they hit the floor.

Beep-O is small and floats which becomes a problem when you're trying to get the team across narrow platform.

I don't mind Beep-O in battle and it's cool that he's the cursor but in the overworld he doesn't really need to lead the team.

I have been using Honey but am I correct in assuming that bounce does extra damage?

Well, my mom came home and surprised me with this which was unexpected considering our budget for stuff in general. It was odd since I'd barely mentioned it outside of it looking really good, and the designs of the characters being cute.

If it knocks them out of bounds it does +30 damage.

All that effort and it just gets locked :p

Might as well just post your OP here.

Locked, really like what you had :(

For those that haven't seen

Here's a heartfelt interview about this game that's a must watch

Thanks guys. I pm'd Duckroll requesting they please reconsider the closure.

My thread was consistent with many past threads that also focused discussion on a particular aspect of a game. Those threads were well-received. Not sure why this one was considered problematic.

Rather than risk it getting lost in the OT, I may relocate it to the screenshots thread if the mods won't reopen the original thread.

Make it the hundredth LttP/RttP Souls game thread, opening post is one sentence asking if you should consider playing past the tutorial.
Then second post you stealth in the previous closed threads OP, it's a genius plan!

I'd like to give these rabbids threads a closer look but I'm still dawdling in World 2 right now, I want to keep these visual splendour moments a surprise.

Just finished the game and it was really fuckin good.

I hope we get a sequel which includes more Nintendo worlds (and maybe branch out a bit, like some Mega Man stuff maybe?), more characters, and more customization . I can already see the Inklings as characters in this.

Hey champs, any tips on how to perfect the mini boss level in world 4? After like 8 tries I managed to beat it without anyone dying, but then I saw how fast I had to beat it and was flabbergasted!

Just finished this game, what a ride. There needs to be a sequel, this game is just too good to be a one off.

I also love the ending because it brings closure to the Rabbids' story line in some aspects. I just find it really neat that they gave them a happy ending. For those unaware of Rabbids lore, and I'll put this in spoilers,
the Rabbids back in Rayman's world were forced underground for years because people in the surface made fun of them until the events of the first game where they decided to strike back against them by invading the surface world, but after being humiliated and defeated by Rayman, they decided to find another world to invade and conquer, which was Earth.

After the events of the second game, Rayman defeated them again and seemingly broke their way back to Rayman's world which led them to try to get back home in Rabbids Go Home and Travel through Time. The group of Rabbids in TtT warped into the basement of that Mario fan girl and then got warped into the Mushroom Kingdom. After the events of Mario + Rabbids, the Rabbids are respected and considered residents of the Mushroom Kingdom.

The Rabbids finally got a home where they are treated with respect and people like them, they are seen as friends and four of them are memorialized as heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom. It's what they wanted all along.

This game is perfect for using one joy con in each hand. Since there's not much action and it's all turn based it feels good keeping your hands separated.

Does anyone actually think the exploration sections are good? I found them pretty average, if not a bit below. Definite chore to 100% after beating a world, although a secret chapter was nice to find in each.

They should make some actual platforming between the battles if there is a next game instead of puzzle-based trekking.

I think the exploration sequences are great. Seeing how the worlds fit together creates a strong sense of place. The puzzle-solving is fun, and it's satisfying to go back and find the treasures you missed. Sometimes I enjoy just taking a stroll through a world I've already completed, collecting coins while taking in the scenery and sound. It's a simple pleasure. :-)

They were okay at the beginning, with a few decent puzzles. A little annoying but never bad . Until World 4 which was awful in my opinion.

I'm not starting World 4 until I finish the challenge maps for World 3. Can you elaborate on your thoughts regarding World 4?

I snuck a peek at it and it looks interesting from a visual standpoint, at least.

Eh. I disagree. He's easy to control. Just like any other character.

I enjoy it. They're simple enough to not be an issue, but a few of them are engaging enough to make you scratch your head once or twice. And battles can get really intense later, that I rarely want to immediately jump right into the next battle. They're a very good way to pace the game out. And the additional powers make the trek through old worlds for challenges more entertaining. And of course, like Neiteio said, the interconnected nature of everything gives you a great sense of place.

The only problem I have is when you go to move objects it feels to easy to press on the wrong side. Like idk the controls aren't very good for moving.

I think the controls are fine (very fluid and responsive), but the fixed perspective makes it easy to push the wrong side of a block in those bonus rooms with the clock ticking down. Need to keep your eye on Beep-o and move very deliberately in those moments.

Had a fun time tonight gathering up the rest of the chests and finishing the chapters I still needed perfects on. All that remains is the four ultimate challenges, but I took a look at how stupid their maps look and decided "nope" promptly. They look like they were added in at the very last minute and made for people who can't let this game go. lol

Anyways this was overall a great game and I look forward to the DLC!
...and the patch to fix the damn Bowser Jr. laugh on 4-S.

Yeah, but I think that's a good thing. That's what makes it challenging and actually interesting. You have to go fast, but you have to maintain control and not freak out.

You can move things very quickly and smoothly thanks how fast the contextual "A" prompt pops up, and the fact that they let you keep moving during it.

I mean, I guess I can understand how it would trip people up at first, but after a little time with the game I'm surprised people find it to be such a big issue given how responsive it is.

So aggravating perusing this thread since my copy still hasn't arrived due to Hurricane Harvey disrupting mail. My Yakuza Kiwami arrived last Friday, damnit. I guess I should have gone digital like the rest of my Switch purchases, lol.

Beep-O's such a small and colorless object relative to the characters following him that it's hard to stay focused on the interaction point being a little ahead of Mario instead of Mario himself, particularly once my attention turns to puzzle solving and I'm moving around all sides of a block to push it around.

Yeah, I have some issues with Beep-O as well, although from a game design perspective he's inclusion while walking around makes sense.

It's fine visually and gameplay wise. But the puzzles there just drag. There's three particular puzzles that are just annoying unnecessary long

It also is longer compared to the other worlds. Battles can be brutal if you Tend to take lots of damage without healing.
