MARIO + RABBIDS: Kingdom Battle |OT| XCOM on mushrooms

I've read that the game crashed for some but I never had one until now.

Was in the beginning minutes of challenge 6 in World 3 and it just closed the entire application, gave me an error message, and kicked me to the Switch game select screen.

Yeah it definitely looks great on my KS8000. I had been playing aexclusively in handheld until this weekend - docked it and was pleasantly surprised.

Do we know if it's 720p? I remember setting Zelda to 720p and thinking it looked pretty muddy.

I'm not certain no, I just figure it is because of how clean the upscaling looks. Probably the cleanest docked image I've seen out of the Switch so far.

I felt like MK8, Splatoon 2, and Zelda all looked sharper, but not sure if that's what you're describing. Regardless I haven't been bothered by the docked image in the least.

In other news, I was lukewarm on the game in world 1, but as I finished world 2 and got into world 3 I started to crave playing a lot more. I'm a few fights into world 4 now and am just enamored. Now that I think about it - it lines up with when I switched to trying out Rabbid Luigi :P
 
Haven't played the game in a week or two; I'm at the start of world 4. Hoping to wrap things up over the course of the month, though, as I've enjoyed my time with it and want to actually see it through.

I think I hit the same crash? I know there was a world 3 challenge that did it to me at least.
 
You know... I'm at the Icicle Golem and this game is what I'm going to call, too fucking hard.

It doesn't help that I have to rewatch this cut scene over and over and cant seemingly skip it

Who are you using/what are you having a hard time with? Also, have you tried re-speccing your character and approaching the fight differently? There's no penalty to doing so.

You can always turn on the easy mode..
Also, yeah that match is hard because you are forced to use peach. Having to learn to use a character on the fly vs a boss is hard.

As always, in this game you want to be super agresive, so nearly maxed dashes and upgraded mobility for your units do wonders.

I'm stuck with Mario (why can't you switch out mario?) Rabbid Luigi and Peach, I can get all the way to the last phase but by then there are too many damn enemies and I have too little health.

I mean at some point, enough is enough with the boss and his anti movement attack and everyone else and their god damn bombs and then the giant guys smashing you.

This game is fun and clearly I could focus my specs better, but god damn, too many battles are just "TON OF SHIT!!!" difficulty.
 
Rabbid Mario with fully upgraded x3 blast dash through a bunch of smashers, then magnet dance four of them towards then, then hammer. Beautiful.

Jumping on heads of allies (with the upgrade) frees them from "honey", also use Peach's defensive ability. And the boss uses a shotgun, which means separation greatly weakens his damage output.

The game doesn't really get hard until World 3/World 4 and even then it is not too bad. So if you're having trouble, I think you may need to change your approach on how you are tackling each fight. Flank, Cover, Slide, heal, Abilities, Kill Minions, etc.

Don't forget to do challenges in the previous world, that'll get you orbs that you can upgrade your skill tree with.

Havent done a single challenge.

I was able to get through it pretty easily, if not slowly 19/10 turns haha, with Mario, Rabbid Peach and Peach of course. Really wish you could switch out mario, do you ever get to do that?

I'd assume one of the absolute rules Nintendo (miyamoto cough) layed down is you have to use mario at all times?
 
Tried the ultimate challenges.

Challenge 1 - Holy crap, how is this possible? Wiped out immediately.
Challenge 2 - Huh, this is easy. Okay, getting harder. Okay, damn this is hard. Nearly beat it on my first go, though, so now that I know how the reinforcements work I'll get it next time.
Challenge 3 - Can't find this, actually. Or the secret world in World 2, lol.
Challenge 4 - Beat it first time! Felt good. I use a team with a ton of AOE power, so it wasn't hard to wipe out each wave of enemies as they came. I sent Toad ahead, but quickly realised that the idea is to have him hang way back, just ahead of the one dude they send to try and stop you doing that.

Lots of fun. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the DLC. Hoping for maybe using 4 people in a map or teams without Mario. Two new characters would be awesome too. Rosalina and Rabbid Toad maybe? I guess there are no obvious options. Even standard Yoshi felt just a little tacked on in this game.
 
That first ultimate challenge keeps kicking my ass. Anyone care to give tips/what team you used? :(

The only turn based games I've played in recent years are Shadowrun and Transistor and I only noticed a difficulty bump in world 4. So I'd say even for beginners it's more than doable, but I will say that only world 1 ever felt really easy. Then the game just starts testing how well you can set up your team and if you're prepared for the enemies. More players experience 'their' difficulty bump in w3 though. Ubi did a great job at easing newcomers into this genre. They basically give you the entire first world to play around in, to open you up to more possibilities later.

If you're a vet in this genre you probably won't have a difficult time, aside from the challenges. I'd recommend you do those per world asap if you want some testing, because the fights there are usually a bit tougher than the main levels. I 100%'d this game and did all the ultimate challenges. It made me rethink my stance on turn based rpg's in this style, since I always assumed I'd suck at them but I did pretty well here and moreover had so much fun.

For instance I never even glanced at Fire Emblem, would I have fun with those games if I loved M+R?

Yeah I don't know why anyone would avoid Rabbid 'the beast with a banjo' Mario. He can make a fight a pushover from the first turn onwards.

Currently in World 3-7. What is your recommendation for when to buy weapons? My current strategy is buying the best weapon for each character only after beating a world.

Admittedly I found this to be the hardest fight in the game. Only thing I can say is that you shouldnt worry about getting hit by the golems shots, as they are only 30 damage. Stay out of melee range but don't stress about cover.

As a big enthusiast of the genre, the standard difficulty in the main campaign was indeed too easy, and was one of my letdowns about the experience. It's not easy to the point of being uninteresting, as scoring Perfect on the first try on every map you can (without even knowing the benchmarks for the maximum number of turns you should be taking) is still fun to shoot for; but I really had to force myself to mix up my party in arguably suboptimal ways just to explore the range of mechanics, as simply playing solid, reliable setups on every single map gets boring fast. And indeed, the biggest letdown I had about the game was that the range of possible party setups just isn't diverse enough to let you do much with this.

But I say this not having finished the post-completion challenges, which at a glance look properly challenging. And I still have to replay a good chunk of World 4 for full Perfects on every map, as by that point the enemies have options for flushing you out of position, and incoming damage ramps up so much that on my first attempts I sometimes lost a party member to an unfortunate chain reaction. I really think the campaign could have used a hard mode, though, as I was never, ever in danger of outright failing a map, nor was I ever dependent on RNG to get the job done, like I sometimes am when getting out of a tight spot in FE or XCOM. For strategy veterans the objective here is to play quickly and efficiently. It's not a game where the tension comes from a fear of failure. And the rich get richer: if you score Perfects across the board in the early worlds, you won't have any trouble stocking your characters with the best available weapons at all times.

I don't want this to sound discouraging, though. The game is still tons of fun, as there's a generous, roomy ceiling on performing well. And it moves fast in a way I haven't truly seen in this genre outside of SteamWorld Heist.

Do the challenges immediately after being a world (world 1 challenges right after beating world 1 story, etc.). I am sort of kind of a veteran to SRPG games like this, XCOM, etc, and I am blowing through the story with my eyes closed. The challenges have been a blast for me though.

It's too flipping hard and takes ages. I've tried this four times now and breeze to the last iteration of the boss and then get wrecked. It's insane for world two.

The support with the grenades are op, they can hit you anywhere on the map.

I'm so mad at this game right now.

Edit - did it on the fifth go. Took 29 turns and probably nearly an hour. Ridiculous difficulty spike as I've been doing well until this point.

in order to 100% the game?

The first Ultimate Challenge I attempted, which is
just outside of the entrance to Ancient Gardens,
is darn-near impossible it seems. Though I am sure there's a proper technique and team.

Damn dude, I got perfect on the first try with Mario, Rabbid Peach and Peach. I just hit the boss with everything I had. Granted, I had completed 6/10 challenges in World 1 and found all the chests so I had some extra power orbs.

It's best to do these when you've beaten the main game. And they may be a bit tough, but definitely not impossible. They are required for a 100% savefile yes. I used Peach + Rabbid Mario for most.

1) from a narrative standpoint: It's literally called MARIO + RABBIDS, so you'll always have to at least bring MARIO and a RABBID. Mario is, after all, the protagonist of this game.

2) from a technical standpoint: ingame cinematics always revolve around Mario, while certain shenanigans can be performed by any rabbid. If you bring rabbid luigi, he'll be the one pointing at Mario's belly, if you only bring Rabbid Peach, she'll perform said joke.



exactly my experience. Once ability based damage doesn't scale well with enemy HP anymore (like Rabbid Luigi's or Rabbid Peach's slides) - not as well as weapon damage at least, Luigi becomes incredibly powerful. The proc rate on bounce weapons is insane, his ability damage literally translates to up to 4x weapon damage within a given round

The best compromise would be to loosen the team composition restrictions after you beat the main game. Allow you to replay battles with any character mix.

You can't actually do them before the end of the main game. I used Luigi and Rabbid Luigi for the first one. But having a healer would be helpfull too I guess

Seriously? The hardest? It took me five tires, but it should have only took me ONE try if I had not been stupid and realized...
the trash enemies DO NOT respawn. In the second phase, take out the two enemies that spawn, then damage the Big Boss. Then in the third phase, take out the little guys, THEN attack the big guy. Like you just mentioned, the 30 damage is nothing, you can take that damage all day. Just take out all the other trash mobs and once your're 1-1 with the main boss, you can take your sweet time killing him easily. Once I finally did this on my fifth try, it was easy as hell. I felt dumb for not thinking about doing that earlier.
 
Just finished the main quest this morning, fantastic game!

Right after finishing 4-8 my game crashed for the second time (thank goodness it was AFTER that part).

Love that the game overall feels ripe with things to do and explore still :)
 
Almost 100%'ed this game, only thing that's left is the final ultimate challenges.

I basically ran through the entire game without too much difficulty with Rabbid Luigi and Luigi, outside of completing any "Reach Area" challenges where I used Rabbid Mario instead of Luigi.

Just completed the first ultimate challenge, and got almost beat the second one of my first try until I got bodied in one turn towards the end. If anyone is having trouble with the first ultimate,
I used Rabbid Luigi and Luigi for it. Luigi by himself killed Bowser Jr in the first turn using Mario's M-Power + his own Hero Sight or whatever it's called. I equipped everyone with the final tier Ink weapons except for Rabbid Luigi who had Vampire, and I took heavy advantage of it having 100% chance to start off a turn so everyone can heal off of it. Wasn't that hard using this strategy, and didn't have anyone die during it.

I would always buy the best weapon available if I had just struggled with the previous level, ie. not getting perfect
 
World 2 boss is kicking my ass. Any tips?

I've not done challenges yet - would grinding them out help me get a bit of extra power I need?

Yep. Took me about five tries as well. No other fight in the game too more than three tries from then on.

Use the pipes to move your units around. the boss will put a exploding car that moves towards you and he also moves towards you when you shoot him so if you put 2 and 2 together..

Shooting him will make him step into his own kart, also you can jugle him by attacking from 2 different directions, and move to and use a pipe to move to another part of the map if he gets too close.

Yep, you should put your team members far enough in different directions. Attack with one, he'll move towards one party member, then attack with the next party member. He'll move around but keep getting damage. The pipes are definitely there for you to exploit yeah.
