Ill give you guys some advice as a European whos been playing the game a while, this review is crap.

My one worry about the game is that I enjoyed the original Strikers for the fun, fast paced passing and checking, not the mega strikes or items, but with Charged there seems to be a lot more that has to be dealt with

And the last thing I want is to always be worrying about some tractor or cow screwing me over, not even taking into account all the stuff my opponent can actually do to me alone with the power-ups and weapons.

Don't worry about his, it's never bothered me when I've played (and that's a lot, heh). It doesn't affect gameplay as much as it sounds like it might. It's still very fast paced.

I ignore reviews but darn..
Those that use that disaster of a review as an excuse to not get the game...I'll just... :lol

Good to know. Ill probably pick it up, these next few months are going to destroy my already hurting wallet. Damn you video games making me buy you.

Wow, this is the worst GT-trailer I've ever seen. It's loaded with bullshit.

"Too complex for casuals to get into" What? I've played it with a number of friends who aren't into gaming and they all love it and get into it REALLY fast. And it's not too random for hardcores wtf.

If my mother and/or Miyamoto's Wife do not get it; it is too complex for casuals! :D

I thought the score was a bit low, especially after watching what they have said about it.

"..There is a profusion of combinations and permutations.." :lol

This game is above 8, don't doubt it. I played it to start the online servers, I got it for review and I'm still playing... it's really balanced, it's solid and it has an awesome gameplay. Go for it.

Haven't pretty much every single Mario Sports game stayed between mid 7's to mid 8's, in practically EVERY review? At this point it sounds like a formula is followed to a T with these Mario sports games, be it golf, tennis, baseball, or soccer - and I'm going to guess what it is without even reading about it. You have your standard "cup" leagues for the single player, but the main focus is multiplayer - and the addition of online finally adds a little more value for people that don't have people to come over and play it. Doesn't sound like any surprises here.

do they have a regular non waggle control scheme option in this game?

The controls are perfect as it is, there is no need for an alternative control scheme. The only time you use waggle is when you want to bring the opponent down (also nunckuck waggle for item select and mega strike speed prevention) Anyway, they are perfect as is and dont feel out of place.

the reason is that there is no way i can get 4 of those rip off controllers for my friends so i was hoping we could use the gc controllers to play it. not need to get defensive

well -1 sales.

Complaining about the items is so stupid.

I've won games online where I've never had an item used against me once. Why? Because if you don't go around hitting the opposite players whilst they don't have the ball, they other team will never get any items.

Items are just substitutes for free kicks.

"Pitches with bombs dropping from nowhere" It's an ITEM the PLAYER uses.

Also, when playing against a skilled player the matches aren't just "powershot, and another player to score while the goalie is stunned" like GT would like you to belive. It's much deeper than they make it out to be.

The passing to charge the ball is also extremely well implemented, and really adds to the game.

Also, the reviewer calls the Mega Strikes "really easy" to save. Well I've seen VERY few players catch all six strikes on the fastest shot. It's far from really easy.

And I like how they don't comment on the excellent animations.
exactly, I was dumbfounded by his comments about "random" items and "arbitrary" gameplay. Strikers is really deep in terms of its gameplay and there's no way known to mankind that a new player is going to get a few lucky items to keep him up with a pro like can sometimes happen in say mario kart

I'd say the first game was an easy 7.5, and everybody's saying this game is much better than the first.

Seriously, this has more characters, more fields, more special moves, better presentation, online, more personality, etc.

The first wasn't perfect by any means, but it was a great romp with other people. It can get so hectic and crazy at times you'll start yelling and laughing with whoever you're playing. There's no other soccer game out there that gives you more pure fun.

Surprisingly, nobody's mentioned the IGN review that went up, giving the game a score of 8.3. A pretty solid review that highlights the strenghts of the game and that you can do online co-op (which was a surprise to me).

JunoTaksumi said:
7.5 is too low, as others have said. 8.0 at least is what I'd give it after having it for sometime now. It's brilliant fun.

Excellent. I wasn't going to buy this, but now I'm getting it for free, so I'll be glad to play you.

Yeah I can't believe they expect you to own 4 Wii controllers to play with 4 players on a Wii.

-2 sales.

I like GTs reviews but this one had some oddities.

Saving Mega Strikes is far from easy (if shot at the highest speed).

The game is not all about the skillshots of the side-kicks either. You can play that way but against a skilled opponent you won't find too much luck with it.

Bombs are an item, though there are random lava drops on the lava stage.

And from my experience the better player usually wins, simple as that.

Slide tackling is not done by shaking the WiiMote, but by using any direction on the d-pad.

Viewing distance can be altered, if you want to take a closer look at the action just choose another camera distance.

Last and most importantly the game is neither too complex nor too shallow. Whenever you play a good opponent you will instantly realize that this is a skill-based affair. You can pick up the basics very fast but to master all the different aspects of the game you'll have to hone your skills.

My score would be 8.5 but I say any score in the 8ish range is fair.

How's the online? Do people just beat you to death with shoulder tackles every 3 seconds?

I'm getting this game, but really only so I can play online, nothing else about it excites me from the original
If you shoulder tackle any player that is not carrying the ball your opponent gets a free item so you have to be careful with that.

Are there at least a few good stadiums that have little to no outside interference? Or is GT's review over the top and the outside interference is rather manageable on all stadiums?
There are stadiums that have no stadium effect. There are only two stadiums where I really don't like the stadium effects.

One is Crystal Canyon where a random amount of players on each team is taken from the field at each tingler.

The other is the Airship, which has a tilting playing field and lines across the field which get electrified every couple of seconds. A bit too much for my taste.

Not entirely true, you get items for delivering a charged shot as well. Basically it's both a reward for good play (shooting charged balls) and a penalty for foul play (tackling someone who doesn't carry the ball).

i've had this game for a couple of months and i think its class. all my ''casual'' playing friends picked it up really quick and we have a blast playing multiplayer

Oh yeah, I forgot about the charged shot thing. But still, my point stands.

Well items are relatively random and can give you a considerable advantage if you know how to use them right.

They do add to the fun too so I don't agree 100% with the complaints about items. Plus you can disable them anyways for all multi games that are not ranked.

This game is pretty good if you're going to get the most out of both single- and multiplayer, otherwise I'd look elsewhere. Neither mode is 'enough' on its own IMO.

I disagree with the review. The game is fantasticly balanced and no way as arbitary as GT states. I agree with them about saving Power-strikes, though. Would probably have rated it around 8,2/10 if asked :)

Oh damn it, that explains a lot. Playing the co-op online last night, the opponents always had more items than me and my friend. Well, seems that was all my fault. I'm considering getting it myself, but the co-op multiplayer was so awesome, it makes me partly worried that's the best bit about the game and not worth getting if a friend down the road has it to play that.

It's pure chaos though, and that's where the fun came from for me. Trying to get pringles out of the tube did make it slightly harder, but we managed to play a fair few games and actually won some of them.

As a UK gamer, I advise all of you to get this game, and not have any doubts while doing so.

The same goes with Super Paper Mario for us, right?

Add one to the chorus of recommandations for this game. So much depth and balance in it, i'm really surprised. I liked Soccer Slam back in the days, but after a couple of hours, it was always the same. In Mario Soccer, I keep seeing new techniques online. There's no real cheap play, no absolute method to win.

I'm a bit surprised (and sad) to read so many mediocre reviews on the game. Probably because it take some time to enter the game. At the beginning, it seems completely random and out of control. You really need a couple of hours to get used to the pace and mechanics of the game (I found really useful to begin with a close camera, then setting it farther and farther when I was at ease, by the way).

This is about what I expected. The first one was a very solid title and according to my friends a "great" title. I didn't feel that way. They played the **** out of it and I would consistantly get my ass kicked.

The only complaint I have about this game the singleplayer..

You have to participate in a cup wich is about 10 matches and finals.
If you enter the Semi finals and loose you have to start all over again. After restarting the cup for like 5 times without winning I kinda lost interest in this game.

So you can disable items and change the camera angle?

GT's complaints seem pretty bogus now...

Holy shit that looks fun. There's not a lot of waggle in it, is there?

I believe the only "waggle" is flicking to body check an opponent and pointing to block those oncoming balls (you can see an example of this in the GT Review).

I'm in for sure then, I remember when I was so into soccer as a kid and I played the hell out of Megaman Soccer. Good times.

Add nunchuck' shake to switch items, and that's all.

The community on GAF is really really good, by the way.
