I'm not sure why he is applying for a pardon. He committed a crime, he was convicted of it, and he served his time. He claims that since then he has bettered himself and made amends to society. Okay...? Why does he want a pardon now? He did the crime and he did the time. If he accepts it as a life lesson and it made him a better person why does he need a pardon?

Yeah, I came in to ask this as well.

I think the shit he's done is pretty common knowledge, it's not like this will keep people from remembering. It seems like he doesn't think about it much so it's hard to believe he's doing it as affirmation that people have forgiven him.

I don't get it.

He wants to retroactively use his celebrity.

He's an idiot.

Oh my god, people talk as if this happened yesterday. Yeah why not have him bear this for the rest of his life. We are all perfect after all...

It doesn't seem like it's impeded his career much. Even though a lot of people know what he's done I don't think he's widely hated or anything. It's not like society's painted a scarlet "B" for "Blinded a dude"on the guy's chest.

Why does he want/need a pardon?

He did the crime. He did his time. He changed his life and became an international celebrity.

I just don't really understand why he needs a pardon. His conviction and record isn't effecting his current life at all. He can travel internationally? can't he?

What would a pardon do for him? Does he need a pardon if he wants to go into politics? Some sort of law that prevents someone with a conviction like his from owning or being CEO of certain types of companies?

I just don't understand what a pardon will do for him.

why would you draw attention to, or give a fuck about this at this point in your very rich life? what negative consequences is he currently suffering from?

This is just speculation, and I haven't even looked into it to see if the timing all matches up, but it seems possible that the whole Bill Cosby thing might have scared him into this. Like he sees Cosby getting his career and legacy decimated by his past crimes, and now Wahlberg wants to try to do damage control sooner so he can't get blindsided by it down the road.

Simple. Ego the size of Texas.

Criminals gonna criminal.

Why the fuck should he get pardoned? He should serve jail time just for the terrible movies he's been making. Make him share a cell with Michael Bay.

Starts to read.

Reads "1988"

Looks at watch

It has been 26 years my friend. People can change. If Mark is a racist piece of shit to you then Eddie Murphy is a racist and homophobic piece of shit for making fun of white people and gay men in his stand up Delirious in the 80's. It was a whole other world then and times, and the people, have changed since then.

Yep. Wahlberg was 16 years juvenile delinquent with violent tendencies and an addiction problem. 26 years later he's obviously a very different person today. This is a perfect case of someone who turned his life around and made something of himself after a very bad start. It's silly to keep hounding Wahlberg for the horrid things he did as a teenager, in particular when he did his time.

Nono, don't you understand? Everyone in their ivory towers are perfect and without flaw.
As i stare down from my ivory tower i think to myself of all the mistakes ive made, the friends I've let down, the tests i should have studied for, the women i let slip through my fingers, calling in sick when there is nothing wrong with me, the viatnamese people i hit with a piece of wood while shouting racial slurs...wait?

Oh, that's good then. So how much time and how many millions have you donated to charity then? It must be a lot, right?

What are you talking about? He's done his time for this, right? How does he have to "bear this" for the rest of his life? How does it even affect him anymore?

It sounds like he wants society to officially absolve him of any wrongdoing. Why else would he need/want a pardon?

Wahlberg was carrying a large wooden stick, approximately five feet long and two to three inches in diameter
Geeze, that's not a stick. That's a damn 2x4. Seriously, a 2x4 is technically 1.5 x 3.5 inches (it loses some size due to sanding). That's a half inch out in either direction.

And he broke that over an innocent victim's head?

when Wahlberg was 16, he hit a man in the head with a wooden stick ... the application says.
Oh, that's all. He just his a man in the head with a stick. Boys will be boys.

I don't have millions of dollars to donate but i imagine that i have donated the equivalent percentage from my wages as he has from his.

Just because you turned your life around and became a successful celebrity doesn't mean everyone gets to forget what you did in the past.

Move on sure, but it happened and he has to live with what he did.

Yeah I'm not sure what his motivation is here. He says he sleeps well at night and doesn't feel the need to seek out and apologize. It's not like this is stopping him from getting a job or a passport to travel overseas.

In April,1988, Mark Wahlberg, 16, set upon a Vietnamese immigrant named Thanh Lam, and, with a wooden stick, beat him so severely that Lam fell to the ground, unconscious. Later that night, according to contemporaneous accounts, Wahlberg found another Asian man, Hoa Trinh, and, calling him a "gook" and "slant-eye," smashed in the face.

Trinh lost sight in his right eye.

Don't pardon this douche.

Why ask for the pardon? It may be because he's planning a political career around Boston in a few more years and doesn't want his toughie-past to follow him.

This is what he wrote on his application:
Wahlberg wrote that the easiest answer as to why he’s applying for this pardon is that his record generally keeps him from obtaining things like a concessionaire’s license—hindering his personal involvement in various restaurant ventures—and from obtaining positions in law enforcement to help at-risk youth.

Real answer: He probably sees what is happening to Cosby now. Definitely tone-deaf of him to be asking for this at this time with everything happening nationwide

I'd like to see how much money he has truly given to charity, because his other reasons are not valid: he's one of the worst musicians of all time and THE most over-rated actor alive.

I don't get the reasoning behind the pardon. Its almost like NCAA teams with vacated wins. That shit happened, it doesn't change a thing

DCX

I still feel guilty for shit I did when I was seven. I do believe in forgiveness though, we make mistakes as children, but if it's true he committed multiple assaults... I grew up in an area where it was common to see immigrant Asians get fucked up by kids who were high, old men being thrown and dragged across the sidewalk for what little money they had. Knew one preteen who was walking to my cousin's house and was jumped by two crackheads, he was so out of it for years, that he developed a terrible drug habit himself, eventually having to exit school due to health problems.

I actually once had a job with Wahlberg. Dude was really nice to fans, and the people he worked with. Never knew about this.

=/

The guy almost stopped 9/11 and we can't forgive him one racially motivated blinding.

Here's a quote from Whalberg:

Another snippet:

Seems like the part where he said he doesn't feel guilty about it anymore is being construed as him acting like he doesn't need to apologize.

Apparently he outright stated the right thing to do would be to find the guy and make amends, he just hasn't.

Talk about the internet completely misconstruing shit. Wow.

Because you are unable to do many things if you have a criminal record in America. I was caught with psychedelic mushrooms when I was 18, 14 years ago and I am still a felon. It hasn't restricted my life because I am white but I still can't run for office.

I'm sorry for having mushrooms on my posession back in in the year 2000 but I can't run for county dog catcher because of it?

Attacking people while high on weed?

I know it says other narcotics but that really seems like an excuse since he was only found with weed and even still drugs don't make you attack people, being a bad person is what caused him to attack people. I always hate that justification of "it's the drugs fault not me!".

...yet for some reason he never had a problem banging a whole bunch of women outside marriage (not to mention having kids born out of wedlock...a MAJOR no no in Catholicism, well, except for hypocrite super Catholic Marky Mark I guess).

I don't know how much the rest of you know about irish catholicism (i'm an expert), but this is spot-on: true catholics™ never bang people outside of marriage, or else they feel really really guilty & have to turn in their cards & go be lutherans or something
