Marvel vs DC: Who has the better villains?

Darkseid has the couch-appropriation game locked down tight, marvel could never.

DC has more iconic villains, but I'm sure which are better would come down to individual runs.

Good point. I prefer Marvel so I think their villains have the best stories, but DC is just so much more iconic.

It's all a matter of opinion but...

To me Marvel has more memorable villains with better character designs:

Venom, Magneto, Apocalypse, Thanos, Sabrewulf, Omega Red, Dr. Doom, Dr. Octopus, Galactus, Juggernaut, Red Skull, White Queen, Mystique, Bullseye, Carnage, Ultron, Loki, Green Goblin...

Captain Cold. Reverse Flash. Gorilla Grodd. Black Adam. Sinestro. Poison Ivy. Penguin. Joker. Mister Freeze. Two Face. Killer Frost. Lex Luthor. Mister Mxyzptlk. Captain Boomerang. Harley Quinn. Catwoman. Deadshot. Deathstroke. Cheetah. Darkseid.

And you forgot Mister Sinister for some inexplicable reason.

Magneto > all

I mean Dr. Doom and Thanos alone win this for Marvel let alone when you start delving in to awesome villains like Magneto, Kang, Annihilus, MODOK, Ultron, Galactus, Red Skull, Kingpin, etc...

Like no contest.

Going to also add to my DC answer by admitting that I'm the weirdo who prefers the Flash's rogues over Batman's (whom I've never been that fond of) and who actually likes some of Wonder Woman's rogues.

Bolded aren't even bad guys anymore. Italicized is a Killer Instinct character.

You could make arguments that Otto & Mystique stopped being badguys awhile ago as well and crossed over into anti-hero territory.

That's mainly because they don't have access to their best villains. A number of them are X-men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-man based. Question is still out on if and how much they can do with Spidey's villains within the MCU I think. I know Spider-man is showing up but is that it? Can they pull Doc Ock or Osborn or are they still Sony Spider-man movies only?

I don't know much about Fantastic Four but I agree that X-Men and Spider-Man both have great villains, and it sucks that they cannot use them in the MCU films.

DC overall.

If we're talking movie universes, Marvel is locked out even further from some truly great baddies, DC would win that in a landslide.

Batman's rogue gallery almost single handily win this one for DC.

To me they're about equal, but Batman's gallery is a huge help for DC IMO.

Marvel heavy hitters:
  • Doom
  • Thanos
  • Magneto
  • Doc Ock
  • Venom
  • Apocalypse

DC heavy hitters:
  • Lex Luthor
  • The Joker
  • Two Face
  • Darkseid
  • Doomsday
  • Mr Freeze

I'd swap out guys like Mr Freeze and Doomsday for Braniac, Sinestro, Harley, Deathstroke or Black Adam

Just when I thought we were done arguing in the previous thread you do this.Blasphemy!

:)

DC has the best villains, no contest. Overall though I'd say I prefer Marvel, probably due to my love of Sci-fi.

Marvel has the biggest villian team in comic history: The angry european mob, responsible of like half of the mutants backstories.

I prefer DC villians, but both companies have cool enemies.

I'd swap out guys like Mr Freeze and Doomsday for Braniac, Sinestro, Harley, Deathstroke or Black Adam

I could get behind swapping Freeze out but Doomsday is pretty iconic. He's the dude who iced Supes. I would say that maybe Harley could go in, but the others you listed, while good villains, don't have that mass-appeal I was going for with my selections. I'd put those on the same level as slightly lower tier Marvel villains like Mr Sinister, Loki, Green Goblin, Kingpin (despite being totally awesome in the Netflix series)... but that's just me. It's all so subjective.

DC wins simply with The Flash. You've got your god tier villains:

Professor Zoom
The Rival/Reverse Flash
Inertia
Gorilla Grodd

and then you have the proper Rogues:

Captain Cold
Mirror Master
Weather Wizard
The Trickster
Heat Wave
Pied Piper
(sometimes) Golden Glider

Who are all amazing baddies in their own right but then they team up most of the time and just wreck shit up. The Rogues Rebellion mini-series showed that even in The New 52 they're not to be fucked with.

Then you have a bunch of other crazy shit like:

Girder
Cobalt Blue (Actually a Thawne Speedster, not enough appearances to be up there with them)
The Alchemist
Rainbow Raider
Turbine (more recently)

I could go on but I think that's enough. Sure, not all of them may have the name recognition of batman's gallery, but they're all better than anything that Spiderman can dish out.

Professor Zoom alone should be mentioned with Lex Luthor and The Joker at the very least, he has a capability to be legitimately freighting depending on the writer.

Joke thread?

DC.

And if you made this thread asking about heroes instead, DC would win that too.

Batman and Superman are the most popular superheroes in the world.

Joker and Lex are the most popular villains.

Bolded aren't even bad guys anymore. Italicized is a Killer Instinct character.

LOL! I meant Sabretooth.

I have Killer Instinct on the brain.

That's not even a question. DC easily. Joker itself is more popular than any villain out there.

Flash's Rogues owns 99% of Marvel villain. What's better than a bunch bros that just want the big score, catch a cold beer, and watch some sports on their down time?

People are going to say Doom is the best Marvel villain but really he's everything a lot of people hate about Batman except multiplied by a 1,000. Thanos was good during the DnA run but he has shit since then. Doc Ock and Green Goblin are the best Marvel villains.

Bat's gallery also destroys everyone else's so it isn't really far to talk about his.

Professor Pyg is the most disgusting villain. I want to know what Morrison was doing when he thought he up. Just the way he looks and is depicted sends shivers down my spine.

This guy owns everything though --

If only Paramount could make some solid transformer movies...fuckin michael bay.

Read the Sinister Six comic by Nick Spencer and tell me those bros (and girl) aren't on par if just not outright superior than the rogues.

Marvel is by far my favorite. Doctor Doom, Galactus, Molecule Man, Super Skrull, Norman Osborn, Magneto (?), Doc Ock, Annihilus and Ronan are fantastic.

DC has a bunch of really dumb characters that I love though. Characters like Gentleman Ghost, Captain Cold, Clock King, Larfleeze, and the Royal Flush Gang are a ton of fun.

Really a matter of personal opinion

Marvel tends to sleep on their classics and heavy hitters for new folks that go right into limbo

While DC renders good villains impotent or just unusable after a good appearance

Am I the only one who thinks Wolverine's villains can rival Batman's?

Sabretooth, Omega Red, Cyber, Lady Deathstrike, Silver Samauri, Ogun, ALBERT etc

This reminds me.

Wolverine has a bunch of shitty villains.

Seriously, Spidey and FF have the best Marvel's bunch. Magneto is cool but he hasn't been a villain since the early 90's.

Magneto was never hero or villain, he is Magneto. The times put him in the role that he needs to be in.

:lol

I loved Wolverine as a kid. But Cyber, Silver Samurai and ALBERT? They were C-tier villains even for him, let alone outside of his immediate stories. Sabretooth, Omega Red and Deathstrike I can get behind being decent, but they're not high level, high profile villains.

They are actually designed to kill Wolverine. Albert keeps him busy while Elise Dee jumps on his back and goes nuclear

I give you such high marks for even remembering this. I feel as if a dusty old box that was in a corner of my brain has been opened up.
