Marvel's Doctor Strange - Teaser Trailer

This has suddenly become my most anticipated film. Any recommendations of comics for those who are new to the character?

The response to Doctor Strange seems a bit muted... Anyone else feel that?

They still haven't shown a single scene of him doing his wizard shit yet. Or even much action really. The Inception trailer had more action in it than this.

While I personally don't care much for the event overall, Infinity Gauntlet is pretty good at showing that Strange is on another level compared to the other Earth heroes.

I think making an origin story film for Doctor Strange makes sense for two reasons:

A) He's a new character unfamiliar to most audiences
B) His power base is really different and weird

His abilities will be explained to the audience as they're being explained to him, like the Force in Empire.

Have they said this is in fact an origin film?

I wonder how long they'll actually spend on that before he becomes the Doctor. Could they do the origin in 15-20 minutes?

Seems like they're going for friends turned enemies with Strange and Mordo. If that's the case, I doubt the origin will be rushed because it will not just be Strange origin, but Mordo origin as well. And you'll need some time with them being friends so we can feel the emotional pay off from Mordo turning into enemy.

I have a feeling it will be a rushed origin story, based on how we already got most of it on the first trailer. (for people who know the character, this trailer could very well be the entire origin story).

Since all the fans already know Mordo will be a villain and how trope the "original student gets jealous of new more talented student" plotline is; I'd say they won't dwell on that.
Not because just the fanboys know, but because the fanboys will tell their friends who will tell their friends and by opening night everyone interested in seeing this movie will already know Mordo is a villain.
So the longer they try to pass him as a good guy, the longer the audience has to feel they outsmart the movie, which is bad, you usually want your movie to outsmart the audience.

I must admit, I do too. but its not the trailers fault

Its just come out at time where there are far bigger marketing campaigns going.

Like Suicide Squad is reaching the fever pitch of its marketing campaign, Cap 3 is getting huge press, Jungle Book is also massive.

At the same time, Fantastic Beasts gets a trailer etc

The response its got is muted, but only in relation to it environment.

I imagine the next trailer will really kick recognition up a notch

Yeah, he really made him look like a total pansy.

The dude murders multiple unholy space dragons simultaneously in the final battle. Thor is awesome in Avengers. I guess I'm sorry he just wasn't OP enough for you?

Come on, Whedon totally made out Thor to look like the butt of the Avengers like only he can. Asgardians in general as Loki gets beaten in like five seconds. Even during the Hulk fight, Thor falls to the ground like a doofus five times. CG Thor gets hit, then you see a cut with the actor rolling on the floor. It's amateur. When the F-35 fires the machine gun at the Hulk, you see a cut of Thor jumping to the ground trying to avoid the spray of bullets like a coward. I'm like wtf? You're afraid of bullets?

I'm glad Whedon isn't directing Infinity War as he's awful at shooting action scenes. You can tell he's tired of doing them. Let the big boys handle it from now on.

I just caught up with the latest run by Aaron & Bachalo. There's only 6 issues so far, but I'm really enjoying it. It's got such a cool vibe and has some fantastic art. Check it out!

Yeah, anybody can block a punch from Hulk!

And yes, Thor is afraid of bullets. Noone has ever said Asgardians are bulletproof.

Then he tries to choke Hulk with his hammer. Come on son.

He has plot armour. He shouldn't have a cut where he's cowering. It doesn't exactly put him in the strongest light. Some God of Thunder.

Deadpool is the only character that's aware of the fact that he has plot armour.

And Thor is not an actual God in the MCU, he's an alien being.

Edit: if you meant plate armor, plate armor doesn't stand a chance against handgun-caliber bullets, let alone bullets from a Vulcan 20mm cannon.

Like you said, he's alien. He can find a way. I mean, Captain America has an indestructible shield. Wonder Woman has indestructible bracelets. These are comic book characters we're talking about.

So who is the villain in this? The obvious answer would be Mordo, but the black guy with the sword doesn't look Transylvanian to me.

Mads Mikkelson is the bad guy (he's the one tripping out the hallway by waving his arms). We don't know who he is but the going theory is he's Nightmare. The black guy is Baron Mordo who may or may not go bad this movie.

You see cowering I see caution. Even Faora and Superman dodged similar fire until seeing the big lummox tank it.

It was said at first that the Netflix shows were in the same universe but as time goes on they really seem to be make sure they aren't. Makes me sad, I like Rosario Dawson as Night Nurse in the Netflix shows.

The showrunners specifically said that even though it was their plan to, they couldn't call her Night Nurse because Marvel had future plans to use her (ie this movie). If they weren't in the same universe,I don't think they'd have a problem with it.

yeah i dunno what people in this thread are smoking Ant-Man wasn't a tough sell.

Ant-Man is Aquaman level hard to sell. It is not THE hardest to sell, but it is the hardest to sell on the most famous people.

I mean ... talking to ants, wife beater fame and "becoming small" always being seen as a bad thing to happen.

Oh shit, Rosario's going to be in Doctor Strange, where'd you get the 411?

Wwwow. Yeah, no. Thor did a shit ton more impressive stuff than in either of his solo movies.

I hope they don't just off Mads without really developing him some. Seems to be a thing with the MCU flicks. Kinda hope if he does bite it, they develop him a bit, or leave him to be a threat in the future.

Wanna see a supernatural Hannibal-type monster character

the Eye is a very important relic that can be quite dangerous if used in the wrong hands, because it has the ability to do any number of things, the most dangerous of which is, it can sort of manipulate probabilities. Which is also another way of saying, ‘screw around with time’ — which is part of our story.”

Too bad Dr. Strange wasn't around to help Daisy win the debate against Fitz.

indeed, but that was an exceptionaly low bar. Like, he's just witnessed
his mom getting killed
and the very killer trying to run away and the best he could do was this

like, what is this weak ass shit. I would have went on a rampage and demolished Asgard chasing that space elf and obliterate him

in the Avengers movies he does slightly more impressive stuff but still not enough tbh. AoU was especially bad in that regard

Yeah, Thor has been nerfed so fucking hard. On top of that, he's also been dull as shit since the first Thor movie ended.

Biggest waste of potential in the MCU.

I'm not expecting a ton of humor on this one honestly. I'm sure there will be some, as Marvel does like to add a bit of that to break up tension but this seems like its purposefully going for a Christopher Nolan vibe. Which is fine by me if I do say so myself

But how do you add that kinda of theme into Infinity movies in the future?
