First thing that came to mind.
You're kidding yourself if you think Iron Heart isn't totally a gendered name
Was "Iron Maiden" too on-the-nose?
Yet that's the classic Marvel way.
- She Hulk
- Captain Marvel
- Red She Hulk
- X-23
- Lady Mastermind
- Spider-Woman
- Spider-Girl
- Namora
- Lady Bullseye
They're a bit better now, but they were huge practitioners of "Ms. Male Character."
Here's hoping some kid doesn't search her name.Haha, just came to post this.
It's happening more regularly, yes, but it has still happened. Captain America is a big one that immediately. comes to mindHuh? Passing the mantle has been a staple of DC's heroes for half a century at least, but Marvel's? Hasn't that only been something they've begun doing relatively recently?
Lila Rhodes was robbed.
I think the big reason for all of these legacy characters, as well as the major status quo change for Peter Parker, is that Marvel has their cinematic universe to worry about. They can't keep Downey, Evans, etc in the roles forever. Going off the success of The Force Awakens, Having the mantles passed on to a new generation is now a proven model in a long running cinematic universe. Marvel is using the comics as a testing ground to figure out who the cast of the Avengers movies will be in 10-15 years.
Is that her new suit? I wish they would have went with another color scheme. Something unique to her.

We'll see when Tony comes back. Meanwhile, we also have Iron Doom:

Yup, Heart is the worst. Not enthusiastic about the first female Iron Man having "Heart" in her name, but whatever.

I don't really keep up month-to-month with this stuff, but it seems like a lot of the mantle-passing that's been going on has been to appeal more specifically to YA audiences. Is this accurate?
Isn't she dating Traci 13 now?BEST FUCKING ARMOR DESIGN PERIOD

Early 90's/Late 80's, I thinkDidn't the first time Ironman passed the mantle was some time on the 70's?
Well then buy her book so she gets popular enough that she won't just be a stand-in.Probably right. I just want her to be her own thing. I don't want them to waste her by making her a "stand-in".
This just rubs me the wrong way. Why would Doom stoop to wearing a suit designed by someone other than himself? I'd think his ego would make him stay in his own armor, whether or not it was better than a Stark suit.

At the end of Secret Wars, when everything was restored and the Richards' family went off to remake the Marvel Universe, they healed Doom completely. Thus he has no need to wear his armor anymore. He's just been running around doing magic and trolling Tony. The idea of Doom stepping up a bit in order to turn over a new leaf is a cool direction to go, and having Tony die/go missing/whateverthefuck and Doom taking over is cool. Plus, he still has his own flair and I'm sure he'll mod his armor to be a little less like Tony's and more like his.

Doom was humbled after Secret Wars.Yeah but didn't he often boast about how his armor was better than Tony's?
I like the fact that the climax of Secret Wars was kind of Doom's rock bottom. In the moment, he ultimately had to admit that, and the resulting ego hit seems like it has had a very liberating effect on the character since then.Reed is smarter

Yes, but...Yeah but didn't he often boast about how his armor was better than Tony's?
Doom was humbled after Secret Wars.
True, but...Doom's armor is factually better than Tony's.
