Mass Effect: Andromeda releases Patch 1.05 Thursday, details more changes for future

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6_KwM2SyeM

The line is still in, but the scene has a dramatically different tone from before.
This is why when people say "you can't patch a bad story" I remind them that dialogue is only 50% of human conversation. Non-verbal cues, body language, expression, camera angles, music choice.... all can radically alter the mood or tone of something.

This may not make a bad scene great, but nobody would have really freaked out over it if this was what we initially got.

That's what I was thinking. The line would have still been bad, but I doubt a meme cottage industry would have jumped up because of it.

Glad I held off. Will pick up the inevitable complete edition with all the dlc and patches in about a year.

I'm not trying to be a dick but I really don't get the point of post like these. I mean... Thanks for letting us know you'll buy the game in a year I guess? Just seems like a passive way to drive by shit post but then say you'll buy it so it makes it okay.

In regards to the patch, look forward to running around and seeing how big a difference it is but those pictures and videos look awesome!

It seems that way because it is that way.

Damn. First patch and already fantastic improvements.

The eyes were the biggest problem. Everything from here on in will just be icing on the cake for me.

Bravo Bioware.

So how much of this patch was already in the works at launch? A fairly substantial patch of 1.9GB (PC) in around a week from launch suggests the problems were known and being fixed. It also suggests if they had held back on launching the game a week or two a lot of the flak they got may never had happened. However maybe this new patch was done in the 5 days or so from launch. I'd be surprised if this was so mind you.

The Addison "my face is tired" scene is completely different. A lot of the dialogue has been cut and rearranged in addition to the improved animation.

I knew a big way to improve the game was actually chaning the eyes.
Wouldnt surprise if someone at edmonton had to enter the scene to pick up the slack from the montreal artists.

Damn you EA. Could have saved how much of a beating the game took, lost sales, unnecessary burden on employees if they just delayed it maybe one or two months. Was the game also not focus tested at all?

The game is decent, but if you haven't started yet, just hold off. You will have a much better experience in a month or two than now.

Can someone please check this because this is a huge QoL improvement if true:

Apparently now the abilities will show their finalized stat calculations when viewing the abilities?

For example if ability was 200 Damage base and has a 30% Damage increase then the stats will now show 260. Same with it showing the correct cooldown, radius, etc.

I don't know if this is affected also by other Passives though.

Well shit, now I need to pick up the pace with P5 and start a playthrough of this soon. This will be a good contrast to Horizon and P5.

Hopefully that second patch isn't too far off either.

I wish they added an auto-skip option to space travel, I don't want to mash square every time I go from planet to planet.

Wasn't just the eyes, it's facial animations too; prior she was a mannequin.

Still doesn't help that the voice actor sounds like they are reading in front of a primary school class for the first time. So emotionless. It makes me wonder, a lot (not all) of the VA sounds like that; it's like they've been purposely told to inhibit their emotions on either end of a spectrum and it comes off as amateur.

It has been changed a bit, now with more fitting animation. Her face is still tired though...

They actually changed the lines too. The weird as heck "What happened with Pathfinder" line is gone with just calling him Alec now instead, which is much more natural and fitting.

Before it felt like they were using a "First take" from the voice actress instead of a final take with everything tweaked and done right.

Big difference. I'm glad they are sorting this out. I wasn't a day 1 purchaser, and lost interest after all the backlash against the game, but if they continue to make these improvements I will definitely play the game.

True didn't realise they had altered her dialog so much at first. The tone difference is quite amazing really.

Nice to see such good improvement from even the first patch. Makes me really disappointed this was forced out in the state it was in. It sucks that meeting some fiscal deadline is more important to EA than putting out a complete and polished game. The bad reviews and lost sales could have been avoided.

With the patch you can kiss goodbye the framerate in the X1. Nexus docking station is a slide show now. What a price to pay for some eye shaders.

I'm sure some guy in a shitty fitting suit sat at a long meeting table said "good enough" at some point prior to release.

Im pretty sure thats a pre-rendered vid.

I didn't noticed that tho. Actually I think the performance is pretty much the same.

Why would you rush through a great game just to play a game that can only get better in the coming months?

Not rush, but rather put more time into it daily than I currently am. I've been spending too much time after work doing chores and such.

Folding laundry can wait though. I wanna find out what's going on with Ann! D:

The next thing that needs patching in is " R2 Shoot Addison", she is more annoying than the reporter they let you slap in the previous trilogy.

Peebee holds her gun the right way.

Helmets in Habitat 7 are working correctly also.

I guess getting all those early impressions gave them a jump on stuff to fix. Pretty good so far.

Wow that is night and day.

This to me is proof that the game was simply unfinished when it was released. The comparison of this scene between pre and post patch is literally a placeholder model with minimal animation vs finalized product.

This gives me hope that the game will be in a complete state by the end of this patch roadmap and will be a worthy purchase by then.

I still don't get the "my face is tired" line at all, like I have no idea what that is supposed to mean or why anyone would say that in that context, but it really is a lot better.

These are some seriously impressive improvements given how quickly they've been released. Did the team not sleep? With this level of commitment the Andromeda team deserve their own batch of fan-funded cupcakes, for very different reasons.

I went in blind on honestly didn't realize I would be limited to 20 cryo pods. After I beat the main missions I had something like -4000 AVP (it's note displaying the value anymore.)

Honestly would have made different choices if I knew I would now have a 200 slot inventory.
