Mass Effect has the potential to be an awesome multiplayer loot game. MAKE IT SO

I've been playing alot of Mass Effect this past week and I must say this has potential to be an amazing loot-fest game. The fundamental basics are all there. You've got your character classes, you've got a levelling system with skills for those classes and then you have several different weapons PLUS the awesome biotic powers.

What they'd need to do is tweak the skills so you have some variable builds to play with (like skill trees in MMOs) and biotics to give them some balance and even more depth to fit into a multiplayer environment. Maybe remove medi-gels and instead give Medics healing biotics.

The combat engine flows like no other and everytime I'm playing ME I think "Damn, wish this was co-op". The enemies would have to be on the level of Hardcore or Insanity difficulty modes (atleast in terms of max health) to be challenging and fun, but damn BioWare really needs to do this.

So then, Mass Effect multiplayer loot game. For or Against?

Against. ;)

For me, Mass Effect was (besides MGS4) the best Singleplayer experience of this generation, and Bioware should stick to only-SP for the future sequels.

Not that your idea is bad! But I just loved ME as it was, and cant imagine it as Multiplayer Loot Game.

Against. I'll agree with Co-op, but the actual inventory system in ME is so damn borked and the equipment is so freaking generic that the loot drops would be boring as all hell and extremely tedious to manage.

Co-op campaign? yes. Loot? Hell no.

This.

Mass Effect's (as with most BioWare games) best component is arguably it's dialog trees, with the exploration and combat existing to break up the dialog and get you to next important one. I just don't see that working well in a multiplayer game.

I'm not saying sacrifice future sequels for a multiplayer game, I'm saying it could work as a side-project. Lots of tweaking would need to be done (loot, skills, weapons).

And those people working on this side project could be working on making the single player sequels even better, or get the game ready faster. I'm so sad that I'll probably have to wait until lat 2009 to see the continuation of the story.

I'm sad too but aren't they working on other projects too? (KOTOR MMO?).

I wouldn't be suprised if we have to wait untill 2010 : (. Although in the mean time, it allows me to build a Gold Standard Class character in preperation (Assuming that Bioware will keep to their word and allow you to continue with your character made in ME1).

in the immortal words of Danny Glover: "NononnononononononononononoNO!!!"

I don't like the inventory system in Mass Effect. It's too messed up D: And there's like a bajillion items and upgrades.

Co op could be fun, though.

I'm a co-op whore but honestly I prefer my Mass Effect single player. There's too much conversation and exploration to play it co-op IMO.

As for loot, I wouldn't mind some more variety rather then the same stuff popping up over and over and over again

There's an entire genre of games for people who like multiplayer loot fests. They're called MMORPGs.

You'd have to kill off most of the functionality of the speech system I think. I'm not sure if the really long dialogs would work with another player potentially wreaking havoc in the background.

And the dialog is perhaps my favorite part of the game, so I wouldn't be a big fan of that.

Perhaps a side series as you suggested though. I really love the universe they've created.

But right now I just want my ME2. :(
