Killer shouldn't even be on the front page.

Show the victims. Show how many lives were lost.

Agreed. I have noticed at least some media refusing to say his name and trying to limit showing his photo, which is a step in the right direction. NYDN must not have gotten the memo.

Read a recent report of the shooter actually spending time with the victims before he gunned them down. He was invited in to pray and partake in a bible study and then kills them. That sort of evil is hard to fathom.

I'm glad I woke up to him being apprehended though. I hope they seek capital punishment.

In any other thread, at any other time, I'd happily join in the piling on for the plagarism, but I don't think it's appropriate here.

These are things I didn't see before they were posted here, and I'm thankful for seeing them, regardless of the context.

Can we not do this?

Agreed. This is not the thread to be airing grievances or airing exposals.

Just got done from a day of studying, so I'm just catching up on things. I didn't see this posted so apologies if I missed it, but this florist is a hero. Wow.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jun/19/charleston-shooting-florist-debbie-dills-hailed-a-hero-after-tailing-suspects-car

A North Carolina florist is being hailed a hero after alerting police when she spotted the suspected gunman Dylann Storm Roof’s car early on Thursday and then tailing him until authorities arrived . . .

When she pulled up alongside, she saw the driver’s blond bowl haircut and immediately called her boss, Todd Frady

“I think this is the guy from Charleston who shot the people. I’m right beside him,” she told Frady.

She then tailed the car for 56km (35 miles), still not entirely sure he was the young man police had been hunting for 14 hours.

King’s Mountain police arrived within 15 minutes and arrested Roof, who did not resist.

It is pretty much a guarantee this scumbag is getting the death penalty, right?

Yes.

Damn, they caught him near King's Mountain? I just drove through there yesterday afternoon.

Nice job plagiarizing Tim Wise. Its a good message and I totally agree, but you could at least give him credit when you copy and paste his Facebook post instead of passing it off as your own.

Dude.... Seriously?
This is pretty cumbersome to do on my phone, so I'll stop now.. But its safe to assume everything tacticalfox has posted is plagiarism.

And now the only thing about what you plagiarized that will be discussed is the fact that you passed off his words as your own, effectively nullifying any good intentions that you had. Poor form.

Sorry, just want to say.... that's really lame.

In any event, just how many more people are required to be dead before America as a whole wisened up? Such a strange gun-worshipping culture you have, America.

You have the gun worshippers and then you have what I think is a larger percentage of people who are paranoid and think having a gun protects their home. These aren't your typical gun nuts.

There is a question on OKCupid(the dating site) "Would america be safer with more or less guns." the amount of women who answer more always shocks me.

Just heard that Roof let one of the people live on purpose, telling them to spread the word about what took place. I'm not as concerned about the word 'terrorist' as some are, but that's pretty damn terroristic.

And congrats on the tag, fox.

Meh.

I honestly think that by large "but it will protect us/our home!" are just silly justification people conjure just to have more guns.

Damn man, fox, come on lol. Why did you copy paste just for that kind of stuff? Too lazy to type up just a few words? Damn.

Well, I'll stop beating up a dead horse :P

White people are so full of shit whenever something like this happens. Media is doing everything they can to make the shooter look human and to not say this shooting is due to racism.

Even on night line they call this 20 year old guy a troubled youth. Trayvon was being called a drug abusing thug by some reporters. This shit is sad and hilarious.

I guess the next best thing would be for us to riot, that will make everything better. Don't try and act like one side is better than the other. We're all humans and we're all equally just as fucked up.

In their defense it's specifically calling it out as America's problem. It's in no way shying away from the fact that he's a racist and "home grown". Forcing people see see that I think is a step in the right direction. It's not a headline with "the mind of a killer..." or "what went wrong?" or similar junk.

cmon guys I think at this point the Tacticalfox stuff are kind of taking away from what the thread is about.

OT: I'm utterly saddened and disgusted by this fact. I'm an international student living here in the US and my parents called me to ask about this incident and I honestly didn't know how to explain it because these kinds of incidents happen frequently, and I find myself explaining almost every week about hate crimes in the US to them.

fk the media outlets trying to downplay this too. May the poor souls that passed away RIP.

Not really man. In bad neighborhoods where your house get's broken into a few times it really does make you feel kinda safe even though I know it probably presents a larger danger in general.

I think outsiders looking in don't realize the paranoia a lot of Americans feel when there is a shit ton of gun violence on our streets. When you have been robbed at gun point and hear gunshots going off on a nightly basis it's not so cut and dry.

Now I do believe we need a massive reform and I'm not comfortable having them in my home but it's not just "mah gunz!!" open carry NRA people who own guns. In america it's damn near everybody from all walks of life and that's the problem. Guns are deeply ingrained in our culture and for many people they are a part of every day life. Don't get me wrong I don't think they are the answer at all but it's not always just "silly justification". We are a paranoid, well armed, easily manipulated, violent society and that's a terrible combination.

Hon. Rev. Clementa Pinckney, 41;
Tywanza Sanders, 26;
Rev. Daniel Simmons Sr., 74;
Rev. Sharonda Singleton, 45;
Myra Thompson, 59.

I just wanted to say their names. Everyone is so quick to glorify violence and give this asshole the fame he wanted. All the while the people who's names should be upon our lips are too quickly forgotten. When we get shit like this backwards I'm not very proud to be an American.

Seeing those pictures... Man... It really hits you. Reading their names is one thing, but seeing them...

RIP.

Well here's the thing though: the fact that there is a "shit ton of gun violence in your streets" can be attributed really to the gun culture you folks have as well. So it's like a neverending cycle: A is causing B which many think the solution is A which will continue causing B, etc etc etc.

No wonder NRA is so powerful in America. They are equally the cause AND (in many people's mind) the solution.

Not disputing that at all. It is an endless cycle where everyone is armed and getting more armed for fear of those who are armed. It's terrible and I'm not sure how it will ever change.

I'm sure the data exists somewhere, but I'd loved to get a stat of how many people who buy guns for self defense actually use it vs. how many people who buy guns end up misusing the gun.

And people are shocked at why I'm so anti-gun. They act like my opinion is some sort of deviant belief, or that I'm the crazy one. The more you look at the problem, it is becoming clear that America is crazy, and that people like me are the few who actually see reality for what it is.

wtf at the copying of other peoples posts from facebook / book review sites... that's just plain pathetic.

Anyone have a youtube video of the guy being led away in cuffs?

man, this is so sad.
screw that 2nd amendment, for godssake.
get rid of it and have at least some basic gun control.

Obama was so right in his speech. "Such events do not happen in other advanced countries"

Piers Morgan:

I’m sick of this.

I’m sick of waking up to yet another hideous, needless gun massacre in America.

I’m sick of seeing the helpless, grieving relatives weeping and wailing for their lost ones.

I’m sick of hearing that the mass shooter, as at Newton, Aurora and now Charleston, was a twisted young white kid with a mental disorder who had absurdly easy access to guns.

I’m sick of the NRA saying these outrages wouldn’t happen if everyone else in the school, church, movie theater had been armed too.

I'm sick of hearing the mass shooter was a twisted white kid with easy access to a gun.

I’m sick of U.S. politicians spouting fake platitudes about gun violence and then doing absolutely nothing about them.

I’m sick of President Obama biting his lip in post-massacre statements as he did today, pretending he deeply cares when he, too, has done absolutely nothing to stop these atrocities happening. In his last State of Union address, Obama never even mentioned the word ‘gun’ – a shameful omission.

I’m sick of the absolute certain knowledge that gun sales will spike in Carolina over the next few weeks. They rocket after every massacre, fuelled by the NRA spewing their ‘more guns, less crime’ bulls**t.

I’m sick of gun nuts on social media arrogantly, defiantly insisting their ‘rights’ are more important than the deaths of the victims.

I’m sick of seeing the supine American news media collectively shrug its shoulders at the relentless procession of dreadful shootings - and concluding there’s nothing that can be done to prevent them.

I’m sick of idiot celebrities like Vince Vaughan informing us that ‘banning guns is like banning forks to stop making people fat’.

I’m sick of major stores like Walmart stocking walls full of high-powered assault rifles when Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are banned from ALL American stores on ‘health hazard’ grounds.

I’m sick of a law so riddled with hypocritical absurdity that it allows 9-year-old girls to be legally handed Uzi machine guns at shooting ranges, where they ‘accidentally’ kill their instructors – but bans my 21-year-old son from recently being allowed to buy a NON-alcoholic beer because he had no ID.

I’m sick of anyone who dares use the phrase ‘gun control’ in America being instantly abused and labeled an ‘enemy of the state’.

I’m sick of hearing that the 2nd Amendment can’t be amended to drag it into modern life because the Constitution is such a sacred document. It’s already an AMENDMENT. Do the damn math.

I’m sick of seeing endless police shoot-outs happen simply because U.S. cops fear everyone has a gun. This paranoia, which is often based on reality, has turned America back into the Wild West, where the slightest altercation rapidly becomes the OK Corral.

I’m sick of the sickening, haunting mental image provided by a Sandy Hook relative, who told me that the bullets which hit those poor children made holes the size of golf balls – and each child was hit between 3 and 11 times.

I’m sick of repeating ad nausea that 100,000 people are hit by gunfire every year in America, of whom 32-33,000 die;18,000 from suicide, 12,000 from murder, and over 500 children from ‘accidents’ where some dumb adult has left a gun lying around.

I’m sick of everything from cars to pet dogs being more tightly regulated in the U.S. than guns and nobody thinking that’s just ridiculous.

I’m sick of knowing that 40% of all gun sales in America have NO background check, not even to see if the purchaser is mentally insane or a criminal.

I’m sick of America’s cities becoming almost war-zones most weekends, with higher gun death tolls in just 2/3 days than countries like England, Australia or Japan have in a year.

I’m sick of most federal and state level investment into mental health research and treatment being cut in the past decade, when millions of Americans suffer mental health issues and desperately need help to protect themselves and us.

I’m sick of the billion-dollar gun manufacturers putting their greedy, grasping commercial interests above life, aided and abetted by a dangerously powerful NRA-led lobby which bullies, threatens and abuses any politician at any level who even whispers support for sensible new gun regulation.

I’m sick of being told that guns are essential to defeat tyranny, when guns themselves have become the single most deadly, tyrannical force in the country.

I’m sick of all the tears and misery and fury and despair felt by everyone whose life is touched and destroyed by guns in America.

I’m sick of this. YOU should be too.

Why put him on the front page? Fuck that.

Eh, for this particular instance I think it's actually alright, since the purpose of the article is not in any way making an excuse for what he did or glorifying him in any matter but rather pointing out "YO AMERICA, YOU'VE DONE FUCKED UP!" and the combination of the word Disease and his pic illustrates that point well.
