Massive Chalice Kickstarter by Double Fine [Complete, $1.2 million funded]

Yup. These guys don't seem capable of delivering solid gameplay.
I agree, but Brad Muir's Iron Brigade is the one Doublefine game that is the exception to this.

Well, that and the Automata(sp?) game, which is another project Brad Muir worked on. He just knows how to put the ":D!" in "Gameplay :D!".

The aging premise reminds me a LOT of Venus & Braves. I'm 100% down with this.

This isn't Brazen.

Make Brazen you fuckers!

Is Brazen Doublefine's take on Monster Hunter? If so, I agree!

I'm going to pass on this one. Each of the recent DF titles I've played have been nothing more than an interesting aesthetic over top of really, really boring game design.

Palehorse, so weak. I knew you couldn't hold out.

Would really like to see screenshots or videos, but even so, I'm willing to trust them on this.

Double Fine + SRPG + Brad Muir heading = excitement!

from the faq:

Are women in MASSIVE CHALICE only meant to have children and raise them? MASSIVE CHALICE will be a very inclusive game! It’s true that in the pitch video we reference an immortal King (drawn in the likeness of Brad) but in the final game we want the player to have the role of an immortal king or queen. And your bloodlines and fighting force will be made of both male and female heroes – equally capable of splitting demonic skulls!

lol you know the games industry is fubar on gender issues if even df has to state they're not sexist

How? Their first kickstarter game isn't even out yet. Is Double Fine that big to where they can have two projects going? Won't back, but will watch how it plays out.

They've actually got three or four games currently in progress IIRC. It's less that they're a huge studio and more that they're currently making smaller games.

Anyway, Massive Chalice doesn't really sound like my kind of game, but I feel like I'll end up backing the project anyway. If I'm willing to let anyone sell me on a new genre, it's Double Fine.

We have about 60 employees. Our teams range from just a couple people (Dropchord) to close to 20 (Broken Age), but all our teams fluctuate in size over time depending on the state of the game. (When a game nears completion, for example, the team tends to be at its biggest point.)

We've actually been working this way ever since Brutal Legend shipped! We transitioned to a multi-team studio with smaller individual projects at that point and it's now part of the core Double Fine culture.

Oh ok, thanks for clarifying. :) Love your games though, would really like to see another Grim Fandango game, even another Psychonauts would be awesome too.

Messing around with dynasties in Crusader Kings 2 was great fun.

The combat was pretty bad, though. It isn't a major part of the game, but it was still significant enough to affect my overall enjoyment of the game. Then again, I played a lot of EU3 (way too much), so that likely accelerated the combat fatigue I felt.

Taking the best parts of CK2 and putting on a SRPG/Xcom tactical layer? Yes please.

And now for something completely different... from the usual "is Broken Age out yet" posts.

In Irish mythology, the Tuatha de Danann brought with them four treasures to Ireland: a magic sword, a stone that pronounced the king, a magic spear, and a magic cauldron (from which no company ever went away unsatisfied). The stone is the same as the one in the Arthurian legends (had a sword in it), and the cauldron has also been depicted as a cornucopia.

The treasures had male and female aspects. Two of them are phallic (consult your local liberal arts major to figure out which), and the cauldron isn't one of those. If you can compare a spear to a phallus, it's only natural you'd compare a cauldron to...

According to The Da Vinci Code, "chalice" means vagina.
... a chalice.

Also, each of the treasures was brought from a different island city. The city from which the cauldron was brought is Muirias.

Coincidence? Probably.

I shall take this as a sign that they are already hard at work on brazen and things are going so well they wanted to whip something up in their spare time. Which isn't much what with all that hard work they're doing on brazen, but they must love a challenge. Brazen.

Obviously moving slower than the adventure game, but that's to be expected. Not sure if I'm in for 20 or 50, but I'm in thats for sure.

Just watched the video, loved it. Was only thinking of backing with the base tier, but gotta have that HD 2PP love. Love to know who could be doing the music, because I loved what I heard in the BA trailer.

Someone should seriously send Brad a copy of V&B with a quick translation FAQ. I think there's much he could learn from it, and also the art style is still incredible.

Sounds like it has potential, but at this point, I'm not backing a project without even a mockup of how gameplay looks, or what the artstyle will be. Double fine is very hit or miss for me, but I hope this one turns out well.

Somebody said "Chassive Malice" on the GiantBomb chat during TNT and I think it's a much better name, even though "Chassive" means nothing.
not really

I can't say no to Brad ":D" Muir. Already backed.
