Would you be prepared to sacrifice your testicles, stomach fat or ears for the sake of high-class cuisine? A soon-to-open Berlin restaurant is touting for diners willing to do just that: donate body parts that it says it will turn into gourmet meals according to the age-old cooking habits of an Amazonian tribe infamous for its cannibalism.

The promotion has been declared grossly distasteful by a growing number of protesters, who say it is in particularly bad taste following the case of a real cannibal in Germany.

In a prominent advertising campaign on the internet, in German newspapers and on television, the restaurant, Flime, is appealing for willing donors and diners to become members of what it hints at being a new dining movement.

"Members declare themselves willing to donate any part of their body," the advertisement reads, adding that any resulting hospital costs will be taken on by the restaurant. They say they are also looking to employ an "open-minded surgeon".

The location of the restaurant – if it exists – is being kept a secret, as is the identity of the owners and investors behind it. As a foretaste of its menu, Flime is suggesting traditional Brazilian dishes such as bolinho, which it describes as "fried tatar balls with a sweet-sour dip", or feijoada, a main course consisting of "various pieces of meat with black beans and rice". It does not specify what type of meat is used.

Article from UK newspaper The Guardian, here. The rest of the article is there too, mentioning the restuarants inspiration etc.

Personally, it sounds like a bit of a dark joke to me, maybe raising awareness? I dunno, but buggered if I'd eat there :lol

I watched a documentary about the guy in the article from Germany, Armin Meiwis, who cut off another mans penis, who he met in a cannibal chat room and fried it up. Alas it was too burnt, so he fed it to his dog. Cannibalism pretty much ranks at the top of wierd, underground movements for me. It is kind of amazing there even is an underground for it.

Thats gotta be some kind of prank.... Right?

You'd really hope so. I mean, for a start, the food prices are going to astronomical, considering the restaurant pays for all hospital fees. That being the case, only the rich and famous are going to be eating there and I doubt most of them would like the world to know they just snacked on some "bolinho".

Just not a viable business plan! :lol

Well that's a shame, I really think that ecological and safe human meat might make quite some money.

I'll just wait for the cloned meat, doubt anyone will object to eating that.

Not a surprise, but it's officially a hoax:

BERLIN, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A Web site for a Berlin restaurant offering "cannibal" cuisine has been revealed as a hoax perpetrated by vegetarians to highlight the "evils of meat-eating."

The German Vegetarian Society, or Vebu, revealed Tuesday the Web site for restaurant Flime, which requested diners "donate any part of their body" for cooking and sought the services of an "open-minded surgeon," was a hoax to raise awareness of the "evils of meat-eating," Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported Tuesday.

The Web site had drawn international attention and condemnation from German politicians.

"Vebu wants to draw attention to all of us who are affected by the worldwide consumption of meat," Vebu spokesman Sebastian Zosch said Tuesday. "Nobody really thinks about those facts in their day-to-day routine. Because of that it was necessary to call this creative campaign into action."

I don't think this was an effective message.
