Max Verstappen reaction as he gets disconnected from virtual 24hr Le Mans

Why does he care about video games he's a literal F1 driver

RFactor 2 is disconnect prone but it does have the most advanced physics and force feedback in the sim racing world.

Have to empathize with him given the circumstances.

And it's literally more than a game in this case.

When you find out he uses video game to practice instead of spend thousands to a car on the track. I know mind blowing

On topic: what could go wrong? A 24h race over the Internet

The ideal sim racing would be
Automobilista 2 graphics, rf2 physics and iracing matchmaking. One can dream

It's nothing uncommon. On iRacing you get multiple 24h races per year. The whole community can participate - drivers will be divided into splits and for every split there will be separate server spinned up.
It works without problems. But here they're using rFactor 2 which has a lot of problems apparently.
Max (with Readline team) actually won 24h Nurburgring and 12h Bathrust or iRacing.

Yeah I know its fine. But the risk is always there lurking

Didn't rage at all. All very good measured comments for the good of the community. The even was a disgrace.

Obviously won't matter for Max but it costs 2.5k to enter that event and it essentially doesn't even work.

So yeah good on Max for calling it out.

Also that commentator Ben couldn't be more of a hypocrite if he tried.

So you want the best drivers possible from the most elite Motorsport possible, playing a game you want promoted? And you think that it is unreasonable that that drivers like that would have something negative to say about unreliable infrastructure for a competitive event?

This guy is a clown.

What a dumb fucking take.

These guys paid a 2500 euro entry fee and then get disconnected from the race. Calling this a "clown show" is like the nicest possible thing to say in reaction to the situation, how is that "toxic behavior"?

Dismissing valid criticism and genuine disappointment is more toxic than what Max said.

2005 Indianapolis was an absolute clown show. Ferrari's strategy past year was a well ridiculed clown show.
This guy clearly has no idea that most criticisms are quite harsh, especially in the moment and he needs a thicker skin if he wants to work in that area.
Max isn't happy about any problem with his real life car, or other drivers crossing his line, or bad calls from officials. He might word it differently since sponsorship money and a clean, cool facade might be a little more important there than in this minor event, but all drivers articulate their anger quite often.
DNFs happen in real life often but could be the one thing where riskfree virtual online competitions should be clearly better.

Got to relax by playing games about your job.
Every Michelin starred chef i know relaxes playing cooking mama, and every politician i know plays leasure suit larry when they aren't using taxpayer money to score underage escorts...

Seems to be they think that the best defense is a good defense. But that won't work when a current F1 world champion is racing on your servers and his criticisms on the state of the service are valid. I sure hope that people behind iRacing use this to convince Max to race in their game.

Max does race in iracing. You can run into him if you play in one of the mixed class endurance races and are rated high enough.

The competitors have to feel that the rules are fair in events like this, unless it is made clear it is just some paid PR show match thing. The word toxic is overused here, and I would say it is event managers who are more toxic for dodging accountability.

Well in that case he can play more or participate in tournaments. I'm sure he'll be looking into something to replace the time invested in rfactor, he seems to love online racing.

e-drama is whatever, but seriously in this case there were some serious stakes and the driver was a professional. This person's software couldn't handle it and (apparently) kept disconnecting him. I'd say the drivers reaction is pretty mild all things considered and I would concur with him that the situation and software is, indeed, a 'clown show'.

Why is the impetus on consumers/the fans to constantly lower the bar for crap products?

"But we worked so hard!"

"And?"

He and most pro drivers do. The iracing scene doesn't cross over to the video game scene much so you only hear about it when things go wrong. Max is good. I think Max casually qualified for one if the 20 available spaces the Porsche eSports cup (other 20 went to past participants).

The company running virtual lemans bought the rights. Lemans exists in iracing as part of the 24h series. Iracing isn't allowed to feature the event or call it "24 hours of Lemans". That's why Max was in this other game.

To be fair (not saying it happened in this Max example), but out of all the times we get disconnected from MP games bombing us to the lobby, wouldnt a shitty internet connection be the culprit too? How can anyone prove it's the game's fault or the ISPs?

My internet has been flaky the past year where sometimes it goes down for 5 minutes. I know it's the internet since I text my neighbour and he says it's down for him too. Only internet service I get is from my phone not using wifi from my router.

How else would I be a Real Life Pokemon Master otherwise

Funny, it happens to the best of us! Starts about 35 seconds in.

I kinda love the fact that he absolutely has no chill. A pure race car driver (even though he is kind of a dick).

Actual F1 worldchampionship, video game event...Eff it...If he is racing he wants to win it.

There is a massive fucking difference between having a game disconnect in a non tourney setting and when its in one, especially when you have to pay to enter, the fuck is this take?
Clowns take 🤡

Disconnected 18 hours into a 24 hour race, while comfortably in first place. If it was me I'd make sure everyone knew what I thought of the event organisers too.
