May 12, 2005: Xbox 360 -- Next Generation Revealed, an MTV Special.

To this day I still don't see it

This video is pretty hilarious:

They call the OG Xbox 'Xbox One' multiple times.

The big focus on the ring of light. How ironic considering how shit that SKU was

I watched the whole video.

If MTV had aired another special for Xbox One showing such little gameplay and filled with celebrity guests, GAF would be shitting all over Microsoft.

Also, that motion capture segment was utter bullshit lmao.

This is my first time seeing this. Shit is fucking hilarious. That pimp my Xbox segment was gold.

Guessing GAF shat all over this back in the day? Revealing next to nothing about the system along with overproduced nonsense with celebrities surely couldn't have gone down well even 10 years ago.

I remember the ARG leading up to this and the first teaser pics of PGR3 and Kameo. To think I had just joined this site. E3 2005 was insane considering how few gameplay demos we actually got.

Here's the thread about it:

lol@discussions about HDTVs and whether they are needed. Was that the 720p vs 1080p of last gen?

Shit was so hype back then. I remember seeing those Ipod commercials a shit ton in high school, great times.

360 being this old makes me feel even older, cause i was in a position to actually fully remember all that crap and long before.

Also, J Allard was an effing G. I remember seeing all those "making of 360" videos where they showed off all the different prototype case models

Watched it a couple of weeks ago. Still fun to watch. What you can't say about every Xbox presentation.

Awesome that it still get AAA games as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Guitar Hero Live and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

i have no nostalgia for this because i was already old in 2005. now im just ancient.
seeing comments about how people were 8 years old when this came on makes me feel even older.

Lol I like it when the reviewed the video game time line in the beginning they somehow skipped the PS2 and said the original Xbox "changed the world of video games when introduced", sure not the best selling home console ever that got video games into mainstream just a year before, the Xbox which sold 30m did it! :)

It's gonna be weird to see people posting about the XB1/PS4 reveals and being nostalgic about them.

"If only Microsoft kept the XB1 online only! Too bad they didn't know that the XB2 and PS5 turned out to be exactly what Microsoft initially went for."

You might want to take the XBOX 360 part out, GAF will tell you there were no games after 2009!

You're really going hard on this persecution complex thing, eh? You're free to just state your opinion openly, rather than the passive aggressive me vs. the forum attitude.

If you're just looking for attention, maybe you could make a thread about your issues. I'm sure a ton of people would reply, and that would be pretty exciting for you, right?

All I remember is being underwhelmed by Perfect Dark Zero's showing and that Elijah was awkward.
Same here. I was really let down to see what PDZ looked like after I hyped myself up for it. And Elijah was all sorts of awkward indeed.

"I am here with professional gamers Matt, Amy, Amber, and Dee, and you guys got the inside scoop on Perfect Dark Zero when you were over in England"

and then feel good inc comes back on

jesus

They had so many core ideas right when that system launched back in 2005 it was ridiculous! It defined that generation for that very reason! I don't care which console had a better library of games or better graphics. In the end, the Xbox 360 created the template that both current gen systems follow to this day.

EDIT: Though that whole video is terrible, much worse than I remember lol! Its bad in a different way that the Xbox One reveal though. With Xbox 360's reveal it was just cringe inducing marketing with a solid product to back it up. The Xbox One wasn't just a cheesy conference, it was a straight slap in the face to their core user base and to make matters worse their product looked totally inferior to the competitions.

Can I be honest? I spent the majority of last gen on a SDTV. Didn't get a HDTV until 2011. I didn't feel I was missing much other than the ability to read small writing. Yep.

Same here.

I really, really can't believe it has been almost 10 years. I was 14 years old when I watched this live, and I was SO excited for Perfect Dark Zero....I played PD64 nearly everyday since 2001 or so because it was SO good...

While I overall liked PDZ...there is really no comparison, the N64 game had a LOT more to it.

But wow, it's weird to see how much popular culture has changed since 2005. I remember everything at the time feeling so "modern", but now everything in this video looks so off and goofy. I wonder how dumb everything in 2015 will look in 2025.
