Maybe this thread posting thing isn't all it's cracked up to be

Man you must be new to gaming. Launch consoles games often look like previous gen graphics with small improvements. We won't be seeing a big jump in graphic quality till a year after it's launch.

Ubisoft don't exactly have a reputation for high polish products, neither are launch games, neither are cross-generational games. And InFamous looks massively more impressive.

The PS4 is fine.

Because lets not go on fact sheets and instead rely on pre-alpha builds of games that are as unoptimised as hell.

Come on, real statements about Xone and PS4 potential cannot be made at this point, nor in the 6 months after launch. Remember this generations launch windows?

Perfect Dark Zero, Resistance, Gun arguably looked like former gen titles when Ninja Gaiden Black shot off screens with visual prowess.

Are the specs of the PS4 overhyped?

How is it that Watch_Dogs looks and runs like garbage on the PS4, while AC3 runs at 1080p 60fps on my 2 year old 'mid range' PC?

Why does Driveclub look and run like crap?

Honestly, the only games which even look remotely good are Killzone and Infamous on the system. And the former has had FPS problems

Launch games are always underwhelming. Specs are specs. Especially with these new consoles. It simple math when you know what the individual components bring to the table.

I'm not sure how you can over-hype it when we know the specs, we're not talking about The Cell or The Cloud here.

It's the most powerful console and it's easy to develop for. Now it's up to the 1st party developers to take the lead and wow us.

While I do find it a little alarming that some games seem to be running like utter crap when the console is meant to launch in a little under half a year, launch software (especially before it has launched) is a terrible way to gauge a consoles capabilities.

According to Digital Foundry only a few Xbone games were running on actual devkits. Forza and Ryse were two of them.

also KI,

they were all showing early builds. Relax

Maybe, just maybe, we should wait until the consoles are actually released before we start comparing how well games run on them.

Consoles will never match high end Pc graphics, so you have to get over that, it's too early to jump to conclusions wait until the games ship first, but yes specs wise it is the most powerful console

On a side note, on paper the PS4 is not a beast. It only looks beastly because the Xbox One's specs are decidedly lower end. In all honesty, both of these consoles should have been more powerful. The 8GB GDDR5 is a spanner in the works, but it will probably take time to get the most out of, especially seeing as how games presently are accustomed to using much less ram. Add to that, getting all those Sony first party games that were Cell heavy to be more GPU heavy will take time.

Especially Xbone. Going with 33% less stream processors was bad enough, but it only has half the ROPs which means half the fillrate if they have the same clock.
It's definitely gonna age worse.

Third party devs are demoing their games on ps4, I wonder which console they're further along in development for.

The Order 1886

That looks damn good.
High res textures everywhere.

I'm not even gonna attempt to be an armchair tech analyst. After playing God of War Ascension and The Last of Us this year I've got faith in Sony's hardware and their developers.

Wii U got judged on launch titles. Its PS4 turn. Lol

Yeap. It is funny seeing some people that jumped at the Wii U throat because of launch ports now defending the PS4. But this time they are right, any console needs time, the launch games are always underutilising the power of the system. No doubt that starting with next year the PS4 games will look truly amazing.

The argument that Watch Dogs is a current gen game is not valid, with all that power PS4 ports should look at list as good as the better PC ports of the current gen games. It needs more time.

Why don't you wait until the game releases?

Seriously. These systems arent even out yet, and they are running on unfinished hardware. Plus, most third party stuff is cross gen. So we're not even getting the full picture of how powerful these consoles are yet. We probably wont for quite some time either. Dont forget that these teams had to get something together in time for E3. Im sure that deadline didnt help any. Devs are splitting their resources is what Im trying to say.

Hyperbolic threads like these make me hate console transitions. After every single press conference its nothing but people asking which one are you going to pick up. As if we know the whole story. Clearly we dont, look at yesterday. Theres also a large number of people talking about hardware specs. These people almost never seem to believe in a middle ground. Its either going to be super powerful and everything is going to be 1080/60 fps or its going to be so bad that it'll be indisguisable from ps3 graphics.

Everything is going to be fine. The ps4 will have its pros and cons and the Xbox One will have its pros and cons. Im speculating that each will cancel each other out and the choice will ultimately just be personal preference.

No joke, exactly this was written about the PS2 launch titles and all the Sega fans laughed about the flickering, jagged visuals. (I must know, because I was one of them.)

Transitional titles don't reflect the overall hardware capabilities.

So do we have capture analysis yet or is it all some journalists going "I estimated it was below 30 with my perfect eyesight"?

It has a better GPU and more available RAM than Xbone

Also graphics will get better over time, just as they did this gen

Why exactly?

The PS4 is not a high end gaming PC. Of course things like Sleeping Dogs on a top PC will look better than the PS4 version of this game.

It's a cross gen open world game and they received the final hardware some months ago.

Also it's a launch title which means that they can't delay the game if needed(because they don't want to of course)

Check out how Gun on Xbox 360 was.
This is something more complex because the next version looks failry better than anything we can expect on current gen consoles.

Anyway I expected a better version for watch dogs, because I supposed they had enough man power/time to get to know the new hardware but it'isn't. Still interested in the game though.

I wonder how it looks on Xbox One or Wii u

People touting launch titles vs later titles seem to be fine with waiting years before getting what they have been promised.

The question you should be asking is "Maybe a next gen version of a game also being developed for the current gen consoles hasn't been optimised to look a whole lot better by the developers making it."

As for driveclub, I haven't seen any footage that looks bad. It also happens to be an unfinished launch title.

DriveClub is 35% complete as said. This is a knee jerk thread, lock it.

The game as a whole isn't at 35%, but the build we saw was.

Evolution also work differently to most other devs, instead of building a slice of the game that is tuned up and then building out the rest of the game; Evo' build much of the whole game and then work in layers, optimising more and more towards the end of development.

What?

The PS4 is just some magical system where games looks great with little to no effort, games take time and this one is still not done.

It's called getting to know your hardware. When was the last time someone coded a game to use 8GB GDDR5?

Additionally its strong because of it's great policies and Sony's entire commitment to them. Look at how they are treating developers. It's wonderful, and it's a great thing for the industry.

Nice to have but it can't suddenly make a card that's computationally behind the new mid range PC cards more powerful. One of those with a few gigs of vram alongside a powerful cpu and plenty of system ram is still a much more powerful machine.

Though they will of course get every ounce of juice out of the machine so it should look nice at 1080 resolutions.

Third-party developers need to get used to the new hardware and I think in a few years we'll be seeing some polished games. They have been working on the PS3 and Xbox 360 for almost 7 years now so I think we need to give them some time. It's too early to say anything.
