How, exactly, is 460K combined a huge dropoff? Not to mention the fact that shortages have been reported.

Also, Brain Training 2 is at #9, so the Brain Games continue their chart streak. :)

What were the second week sales for the other Pokemans? Either way it's a pretty good hold considering the last couple of Pokemans were released in December and D/P is in September.

well if you combine both versions, then it is the number one game

Yeah I changed my original comment once i realizsed i was look at the wrong numbers and that there was 500,000 copies sold today instead of 200,000.

Pokemon GS second week: 438,280
Pokemon RS second week: 471,538

Note that GS and RS were released during the holiday season.

So, it is just below RS.

that is solid with a bit of diarrhea j/k

actually that is an excellent second weel

Pokemon am bomb total. :lol

Edit: Yes, I'm joking. It's clearly due to a lack of supply.

psycho_snake's and The Black Brad Pitt's B*TCH
Very impressive sales for Pokemon considering its still sold out everywhere.
And FF III will easily break 1m mark when SquareEnix can supply more units.

not that most don't realize this, but

1. Pokemon is probably pretty difficult to find, thus restricting sales
2. I wouldn't be surprised to see it jump back over 100k during the holidays

Well actually it's more like:

Pokemon G/S: 556k
Pokemon R/S: 482k

http://www.vgcharts.org/japwk.php?week=2

Pokemon D/P ~ 480k

So very much in line at the moment, although G/S and R/S have a number of 300k+ weeks to come over xmas, I doubt that D/P will hold as well over the next few weeks. It really needed to start much stronger to have a good chance at beating the other two...

NSMB week 2: 341k

Second week Pokemon LTD:

Pokemon DP 2,055,008
Pokemon GS 1,864,049
Pokemon RS 1,716,541
Pokemon RG 130,460

It's really misleading:

1) Using Famitsu and/or Media Create numbers intermingled (I don't personally have an issue, but with all the sticklers for detail on here...)
2) Using old data without adjusting it (or even thinking about how you should)

I don't believe those numbers at all, so for the sake of the discussion, we're gonna use Famitsu's numbers. It's always been that way for the initial discussion anyway.

So, second week for these two games is tracking ahead of all the other versions?

I hope that those saying drop-off are joking. I hope.

Man, I can understand hardware shortages, but cartridge shortages?! Whoever would've guessed something like this would happen...

Well, Pokemon GS was released on 11/21/99, which was the final day of that week, so GS has the best first day sales of the series ever (but DP has the best chart debut). But for the next 7 days it actually had worse sales than RS and DP.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

It shouldn't be hard to believe after Nintendo announced that plastic case shortage.

Hey, ioi, now that you hav Famitsu going back to '89 can you tell us what the original FFIII sales were like in 1990? Released around G-week in April of that year, FYI.

Lol, well Pokemon R/B only doing 130k in two weeks is miles off for a start.

According to Famitsu. Media Create paints a very different story (this is a MC thread afterall?)

Oh? What figure do you have for GS's first week on MC?

Very different to Famitsu, and both tracked well below 'actual' sales.

e.g

Pokemon G/S Famitsu total: 5.64m
Pokemon G/S Famitsu shipped: 7.21m

(and don't start telling me there are 1.6m copies of the game 'unsold')

R/G/B is even worse:

Pokemon R/G/B Famitsu total: 4.39m
Pokemon R/G/B Famitsu shipped: 10.23m

95-96 Famitsu seemed to almost stop tracking GB altogether - for example Donkey Kong Land sold around 350k in 95 according to Famitsu, but shipped 1.08m etc etc.

This is the whole point of vg charts. You can't just dig out old Famitsu data and use it at face value, you have to think about how you are using it - or alternatively just look on VG Charts where the thinking has been done for you

ioi, please back down a little about your numbers. You're gonna derail the thread again.
How can you adjust your old numbers but not these new numbers?

Do you know, for example, whether Media Create or Enterbrain includes the Pokemon store in their research?

I'm actually not talking about that.

Your Pokemon GS figure is outrageous. 1.8 Million in a day?

It happened back in the NES days, once that system really took off.

I remember it being bad enough for a while that even your typicall WalMart clerks were blaming it on memory chip manufacturing plants and such....

Media Create for G/S?

W1- 1,199,028
W2- 516,837
W3- 1,115,590
W4- 498,662

And where is 1.8m in a day? 1.53m is the final, adjusted figure.

And it starts ...

ioi's LTD = theoretical maximum sales since = shipped

In reality, they are at least slightly high.

ioi's weekly figures = guesses based on trends, past history, form fit functions, etc. = much less accurate than the LTDs

Media-Create is the "official" source of GAF Japanese data
and sometimes Famitsu
, so arguing over ioi's guesses (for the weekly numbers) doesn't get us anywhere.

Not looking at the accuracy as strictly as that, I think Square2005 did a good job this week. Gave a reasonable look at the week sales.
