Seems like a pretty good week for software, if the Famitsu hardware numbers are to be believed.

What?

It's a horrible week for software. 10th place selling 8k? Gotta be the lowest in awhile.

last 3 games of the top 10 with only 8k sales?? that's damn low.

this just shows how DS software sales aren't nowhere near as spectacular as barely 2 years ago.

The market's growing stale again. The top 10 ending in 4 digits is pre-DS 2002-2004 levels.

I know RT was a 2006 game for the GBA, but that did only 200k in its lifetime. I mean, holy shit. RTG sells 25% of what the the original one did every single week.

well, I for one miss having a system setting the japanese software charts on fire.

I remember there were weeks with a list of DS only games owning the top 15 spots. Sometime the top 30 was composed of 20-25 DS games with the DS itself selling 80k-100k, what a fucking beast that system was.

fun times, those were.

great charts/threads, Panther!

I have one request that will get denied! hehe
Well, i really liked having the boxes shown for the top 5~

maybe you could just show a small thumbnail in front of each number for visual effect??

That adds more work for u, but I wouldn't mind preparing them for ya~

TheDiabolical

I didn't read my own avatar and now everyone knows I'm not too bright. :(
Dynasty Warriors, Macross, Gundam, Dragonball..........these are just crappy games MS needs to secure exclusively for the 360 in japan.

im sure it would be cheap as hell too

Combination of more appealing interface and actual good marketing?
There's also that Rhythm Tengoku GBA came out 5 months after DS Lite. Releasing in a console's prime rather than a few years after its (successful) replacement arrives helps.

I guess if we take this factor into account, though, DS Mother 4 released this year would've been HUGE.

I wonder if Pokemon will crawl to 2m.

I also wonder how AC for Wii will affect the DS game... I'm guessing something similar to MKDS/Wii.

Insane that MKDS is still around at #15.

Uh yeah. Thats why I said sales are down so much...

Platinum looks to cruise past Emerald and Crystal but will it make it to FR/LG and Yellow?

Can someone explain the slowdown? Is this week just exceedingly far away from Japan's gift-giving holidays?

Not from a cultural perspective, but from a sales-only perspective, it is really just the low valley for every year. Look at this, for example:

mc-3-consoles-weekly-line-96.png

You can see that for the last two years, sales dip in october in almost a straight line slanted downwards beginning in January. Actually, it would be interesting to take both consoles and handhelds and see if there is a consistent percentage loss each week from January to October. If we can figure this average, we may be able to use it for predictive purposes.

I'll get back to you guys about that.

Pretty sure this is going to pass the last One Piece wii game if it hasn't already.

Next week Wii Sports and MK DS rejoin the top 10?

RTG is a "real" game doing the same thing Nintendogs and BT were doing.

I'm so happy to see such an incredible game sell well.

These MC numbers are for its fifth week while the Famitsu data in this image only goes to its third, but it is off to a slightly better start.

JJ: any way to have garaph total up all tracked console sales on a weekly basis over time?
SQL query would be the best way. Here's a simple one that sums up everything for each week. This one is slightly more complicated and discriminating, summing up only home consoles.

If you want portables, or to sum up by manufacturer, or some other such thing, modify the line AND HardwareInfo.SystemType="console" using some other column/value found in the HardwareInfo table.
