Im not really sure how the hell the wii managed to not only pass up GCN in a year in Japan, but also add 800k on top of that as of last week and somehow Nintendo owns the whole top 10....

This is semi-old. We got the Top 20 software numbers from a non-Famitsu.com site, and we'd already seen most of the hardware in rounded leaked form.

Last year when Famitsu was catching up after the holidays, the updates were like...
2007-01-12: Combined weeks of December 18 and December 25
2007-01-19: Week of January 1

This year things seem a bit different. Maybe there'll be a mid-week update to catch things up, or maybe this year it will be the weeks of December 24 and December 31 combined.

I call poppycock on this bit - I enjoyed Final Fantasy 3 very much considering it's the very first Final Fantasy main game I've ever bought and finished, and I'm sure lots and lots of other people would agree.

The clear reason for the less-than-probably-expected opening sales is the series is saturated to death in Japan - something we have also discussed to death these last few months in Media Create topics.

I think it's more recency. FFIII hadn't seen a release since the NES, so of course it's going to sell better to series fans than a game that had gotten remade just two year previous.
