Media Create Sales 2/12 - 2/18

Wow, I was not expecting Layton to have such legs after its respectable first day sales. Bleach did moderately good. 50,000 opening week is not bad. Joker back in the charts...WTF is going on?

Demand >>>>> supply.

Didn't know they performed well. Any numbers?

Edit: I see only GTAIII was released in Japan (no Vice City). And it didn't even reach the San Andreas cumulatives sales in 31 weeks. San Andreas is already ahead after just 4.
No, Vice City was released as well, as I recall, the first week was over 200,000 and the total was around 410,000.

Great Layton sales, and bad VF5 sales.

Looks like Wii will only get 40K-50K sales this week.
Could not wait to hear FE and MHP2 first day sales.

Am I the only one not surprised that VF5 dropped so far? This has been typical of nearly if not every PS3 and even 360 game in Japan.

I don't think anyone is suprised. Disappointed is the word that comes to mind.

I have the following figure for Fire Emblem First week sales, all based on Famitsu :
Fire Emblem: Sealed Sword 126,267. Released on 31-Mar-02
Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword 109,429. Released on 25-Apr-03
Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki (Sacred Stone) 146,026. Released on 7-Oct-04
I don't have FE:path of radiance first week sales.

I hope that FE Wii will be able to do at least 90K in the first week. If it can top 100K in the first week, it is fabulous (since the # of Wii owner in Japan is still a little bit low now).

Well, this was the one game that was touted to be the exception and the driving force for PS3 sales until Gundam Musou came out.

Sad to see the game do so poorly. Hopefully there'll be a few enhanced versions in the future that get more attention with the larger fanbase (like Evolution).

Sekaiju is in stock everywhere now apparently, and it's still not performing on the charts. It's all over for Atlus. No wonder their lead staffers are all jumping off the sinking ship one after another. Kaneko is next, mark my words.

I still can't comprehend Japan's hatred for Zelda... it's sooo frikkin awesome. Instead they would rather wave, flap, swing, and waggle the wiimote so it gives them the illusion that they are really having fun while player lazer hockey, some fishing game, some sports, and target practice....

wait a second, that does sound fun.

:( @ VF5 #'s. It's sad to see the PS3 software sales stinking so bad... hopefully its not a sign to come.

not at all. it's quite a success, just wonder why it seems more popular in the states.

I realize that's sarcasm, but that's actually true for the most part. The exception is stuff like brain training games, which is basically what Prof. Layton is (And Squinenix stuff, too is the other part of the exception).

The other 3rd party stuff on the NDS didn't do so well. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about, either, and will likely dive sharply next week.

I swear this shit appears in every MC thread. Yep. 3rd party don't succeed on the NDS except <insert laundry list here>.

Well, frankly, if you exclude Square Enix, Sega, MMV, Bandai, Konami, Level 5, Capcom, Hudson, Takara, and Rocket Company, then it's true that third party games just don't sell on the DS. I don't know why Nintendo fanboys keep trying to ignore this basic fact.

Ok. You win. :)

I'm still amazed at the position Sony has put themselves in.

I think a big problem is the fact that SCEI is not an island anymore. They used to be notoriously independent of the rest of Sony. They had less oversight than other divisions, they promoted PlayStation over Sony, and reportedly did not work well with other units at all (I remember an interview with Sony Online around the PS2 launch complaining that SCEI treated the rest of Sony as competitors, and wouldn't give them a PS2 dev kit until much later than 3rd parties).

With the original PlayStation they didn't really handle it the way you might expect a gigantic conglomerate. They were actually pretty agile. They undercut Sega on hardware, and undercut Nintendo on software and really just blindsided them both.

Now they're trying to tie so many businesses to the PS3, and it's not coming together well.

I think the bigger threat for Sony is that since they haven't come out and completely dominated as originally expected, they risk drawing in even more competition into the market.

Sony does not look unassailable in gaming right now, and I'm sure Microsoft and Nintendo aren't the only ones noticing that.

Maybe because they didn't deserve a big success ?

By the way, I don't know why 3rd party stuff on DS would have to be in the top 10 or 20 to be called successful. And considering the user base and the developing costs, I'm sure their developers are quite satisfied by their quality of the games/sales ratio.

I guess that Prof Layton appealed to older gamers as well with its such particular design ( not a vacuous one like in too many productions these days ).
