Its only a matter a timeuntil the PS3 takes over japan now. The wii has nothing to match VF5, DMC4,5 and 6. FF infiniti etc. When those titles hit it will be like the power of a thousand suns about to go supernova. The aftermath that is the black hole will suck in any 3rd parties that left the sony camp.

On the 360/PS3, yeah. Not on the Wii.

PSP actually put up much stronger competition than the PS3 is.

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, almost all publishers bet on the wrong horse and put their main support on the PS3 instead of the Wii. It happened with the DS/PSP too, and I'm sure they'll come around eventually. (Maybe even a bit faster this time.)

Yeah I know the usual suspects, it's a Nintendo platform afterall, so was the Cube.
Come on, you know Wii's appeal is similar to the DS, nothing like the Cube. Wii will have sold 6 million units in less than 5 months! This while Nintendo best sellers have yet to be released.

If 3rd party were caught off guard with Wii's success, E3 gave them their 1st reality check, Wii's launch their 2nd one and current non holiday sales their 3rd. In the end Wii is going to have just as much 3rd party support than x360/PS3. Sales dictate where the ressources go.

Yeah I know the usual suspects, it's a Nintendo platform afterall, so was the Cube. There just isn't much that interesting on the 3rd party front. It's gonna take more than Dewey's Adventure. I think the Wii has a good shot of being the number one platform in Japan but it's gonna take 3rd parties taking interest, and taking interest at the core gamer on the Wii. It's early in the gen but when games take 2 to 3 years to make you have to wonder if Nintendo can really keep the momentum going to attract enough support to keep it going. This isn't handhelds, Nintendo has strong viable competition.

I am not trolling or anything, but the sentence I bolded really strike me dumb. I mean, during GCN, and before Wii launch, I believe (most) everyone believe that Wii will be lucky to be able to get to #2. And based on the above comment, it seems that the current sentiment is : "Nintendo might not be able to maintain it's #1 position in console". And this is coming from someone who probably are not Nintendo fans (fans, not fanboys).

When I see the sentimen echoed in the NPD thread, then I know that I have seen "Mission Impossible" level of accomplishment. Just wow.

when the Wii hits $99, the real bloodbath will happen.

Not likely - the bloodbath will be when the extra colours launch for Xmas/New year (Mummy mummy my Wii is Pink!).

The later pricedrop would cause the blood swimming gala... :D ...only I don't see any pricedrops in the future for the Wii. They will bundle a 2nd controller and games for value - along with the inevitable colour changes. Nintendo stated that price drops hurt their business strategy as in the eyes of the casual consumer they devalue the product.

This contrasts with Sony's come in high priced at £425 for the hard core and drop to £299 for the casuals when the PS2 has run out of steam strategy for the PS3.

Expectations for 03/19-03/26
360 - 3k
Wii - 65k <<NAILED IT last week, but don't be surprised if it goes down again (54k?), per the pattern.
PS3 - 22k

Very good job as usual. Can you make some expectations for the golden weeks ?

And thank to Vinnk's for his awaited "Village Anecdotal Report" :)

DMC3 sold 500k~, of course DMC4 is going to help PS3.

Just curious, what's your source? I tried to find some numbers....according to magic box (which I assume get their numbers from Famitsu) DMC3 sold like 280 000 its first year in Japan. Got no numbers for the Special Edition release though.

Can you start the chart at a lower number than 625000, like say 400000? it will make the 360/ps3 easier to read and i strongly doubt any console will go that high in a single week.

Sure. I'll try to remember that for next week. In case you're wondering, it goes to 625000, because it was modeled after the handheld graph.

Yeah, I noticed that, thanks :)

We should at least wait until Golden Week passes first, you never know.

I was talking about the 625,000.. but you're right, you never know. The DS sold more in its second december than it did at launch.

So... what would be next game to save PS3 in Japan? Not so much in terms of taking the lead but more like selling atleast decently on its own. ~20k is pretty bad so early in the lifespan.

Mmm, unless Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 from Konami saves its face, then nothing.

Just look at GameFAQs release date for PS3 in Japan...
03/29 Winning Post 7 Maximum 2007
04/01 Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4
05/17 Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
05/24 NBA Street Homecourt

I do not see a price drop anytime soon if demand continues, Nintendo will have price drop backup plans and will watch the sales closely...

Some more Bloodbaths:
More Wii branded games bundles(Music,fitness)
New specialised controllers for Wii branded games
DS channel (demos and watnot)

They will tray and get as much crossover with the DS converted as possible once supply issues have been solved that is a 35 million market right there...

Any new games this week? First day sales?

Also, will any of the big 3 have a presentation about the (nearing) end of the fiscal year?

[PS2] Musou Orichi - 200k (300k for 2 days), improved from Sengoku Musou 2
[DS] Dragon Ball Z (Card battle RPG) - 30k
[DS] Crayon Shin-chan (ACT) - 15k, double of GBA one (which was 83k LTD)
[X360] Armored Core 4 - 10k, half of PS3
[PS2] Rogue Galaxy DC - 8k
[PS2/PSP] Puyo Puyo - MEGA BOMBA; all people are buying DS version, which is selling several k each week
[PS3] Mist of Chaos - 3k

* All comparisons are referring first day sales.

Not bad, probably going to be very front loaded although Musou aren't usually...SM2 started with 300k and ended over 550k. I guess Orochi will do 300-350k but won't reach 500k.

Not really good for a DB game, good for Shin-chan although its niche, bleh at the rest...wtf only 8k for Rogue Galaxy DC (I read its shipment is very low too). Its a budget version of a 350k selling game and with lots of new stuff...I'd expected a little more personally.

Well, DQ9 is due to come out by the end of the year, at which stage they're going to choose which platform to develop DQ10 for. If sales were identical from this week forward, they'd see install bases somewhere along the lines of this:

Wii: 4,584,652
PS3: 1,661,068

Given how SE has stated numerous times that DQ will always go to the console with the higher install-base, Sony would really need to turn things around to have a chance of getting the franchise back. In fact, if DS keeps selling, it stands a much better chance of getting DQ10 than PS3.

I think Dragon Ball and Shin Chan will perform better than expected, as well as Musou

Weren't the Sangokushi games released this week?

Not really, they could easily begin concept development and pre-production while DQ9 is going through final approvals, and the game will have been completely done at least a month or two before shelf date due to manufacturing time. I suspect they'd have to make a platform choice sooner than you think.

But I agree that if the current sales trend continue that the choice will be obvious at that point.

16. NDS Animal Crossing: Wild World 14109 / 3951097

It's getting closer to dropping out of the top 30. Will it do 4 million before then? We can throw a gaf AC fan party and then wait for the wii announcement once it's gone.

That's Famitsu numbers. According to m-create it's already over 4 million. Should be at around 4,050,000 now.

wasn't this an exclusive PS3 RPG? I would've thought it would perform better that.

I suppose famitsu gave 4s and 5s or something.

If I had a PS3, this would be the kind of games in my radar.

EDIT: yeah, just checked. it got 16/40 from famitsu... -_-

Great first day numbers for those games.

Also great week for the Wii. I really wonder why it decreased like it did last week. Maybe sending more to Europe?

I really think it was a transitioning week. I expect that by now they are producing more than a million a month and are saving big time for Golden Week. Not to mention that April in America is also going to be huge.

The really question is going to be how much did they increase production? 1.5mil?

The Wii sales are just due to people who wanted one, finally getting one due to supply.

The tail-end of Wii sales is coming.

LOCK said:

I thought the increase was to 1 million per month. Unless they increased production of Wii's again. I haven't heard anything of the sort from anyone. Last I heard DSL production went up to 2.5mil per month from 2.2 I think. And Wii went to 1 million per month, I don't know what it started it at.

Link's please.

EDIT: Wii production increase will take affect from April. And that is a measily 1 million per month. I think in 2 months time, when they realise that 1 million isn't enough, they will announce another increase, but I can't see that taking affect till late last quarter 07 at the earliest.

Actually I think they said that they will increase production to over 1 million a month.
They never specified any numbers, but I'm thinking somewhere between 1.2-1.5 million.
Though again, I'm not completely sure.
