Does anyone think Wii Play could ever pass 3 million?

And I'm confused on how to feel over Resident Evil Zero. Clearly the userbase takes to the franchise, but considering the effort put into the game, maybe the userbase knows better?

What about a rural high school that time forgot? Close enough, right?

But honestly, I imagine we'll see SMT DS soon enough. It's a compromise.

And with that, P4 has surpassed P3's LTD in its first week.

Those Resident Evil Zero numbers are pure profit for Capcom. It hasn't bombed at all; on the contrary, I expected sales of less than 5K myself.

Time for Capcom to port REmake!

I wonder if the 360 RE5 can sell 23K in week 1.

Well IIRC you posted numbers before and after Slim a month or two back that showed SW increased almost exactly linearly with HW. With individual buyers just as likely to buy software as before, it doesn't seem primary usage of PSPs really changed.

Ok, so why exactly are you celebrating here? That a crappy port made it to charts and will pretty certainly lead to more crappy ports?

Race is still on between MHP2G and Wii Fit for the top 2008 YTD. I think they will end up within 100k of each other.

Of course, in terms of LTD, Wii fit is going to beat out MHP2G by well over 1M units.

The people at Atlus have to be singing hosannahs over P4's performance. P3 turned around what had been a pretty drastic decline in SMT series sales, and returning to that well has paid off handsomely for them with P4. For a little historical context, some quick estimates of franchise performance that duckroll put together, based on old yearly charts:

P4: 212k in one week
P3+FES: 375k (P3's solo LTD was 210k -- that is, less than P4's opening week)
Raidou Kuzunoha: 80k
Digital Devil Saga 1: 153k
Digital Devil Saga 2: 90k
SMT3+Maniax: 310k
Persona 2 IS: 274k
Persona 2 EP: 200k
Soul Hackers: 258k (plus another 100k on PS1)
Devil Summoner: 355k
Persona 1: 391k

(The SNES records are much sketchier, though ducky was suggesting SMT1 and 2 probably did around 400-500k each.)

Looking at this list as a whole, I had no idea what a huge hit on Atlus' bottom line their experiments with new franchises were this generation. (Also, jeez, Atlus did amazing with their two Saturn titles.) Persona 3 and 4 really seem to have brought them back to a level of performance they hadn't seen on the SMT series in quite a while.

I don't think this represents any worry for the main SMT series, though; SMT3 was still quite successful, it was only the spinoffs after it that did poorly.

Capcom must be very happy that every RE sells on the Wii. REremake, RE2, RE3, Gun Survivor, RECVX coming soon to a Wii near you.

i expected around 10k for RE0, considering it's only a merely port... i'm sure Capcom is happy for that

ToS still dropping, i feel it will be hard to match GC numbers, maybe a price drop will help its sales

3. Resident Evil 0 (Wii) 23.000 [23.000]
For comparison, the GCN ports of RE2 and RE3 sold 9.4K and 8.7K their first weeks, respectively. Doesn't seem like GCN Code Veronica made the top 30.

Unless they come out with a replacement comes-with-a-controller game, I could see it passing twice that.

It definitely won't match GC sales. Will probably top out at 225K or so.

I wonder if Nintendo will start putting Motion Plus in with Wii Play in the future?

Wow, I just don't know what else to say. That is about 2.5x what I thought it would do in its first week

ToS still kicking, it will crawl to 200k but that I would imagine is seen as a success

I find Zero's sales even more surprising given that sales of the GC version weren't that bad, if you think about it. 400K was around what the series was doing last gen before counting re-releases and ports (compare to 330K for RECVX PS2, 450K for RE4 PS2, 436K for Outbreak, and 403K for RECV on DC).

I wonder if the REmake will perform even better than Zero, since its sales were quite low the first time around on GC (hence less people having played it).

Given that it's being seen as the FFX-2 of the original ToS, I think it's doing pretty well.

Are you guessing it will go like this: REmake this holiday (just a port), then next year a proper RE2 Wiimake?

FFX-2 Almost sold as well as FFX in Japan. It either passed 2M or was extremely close to doing so.

At its current rate of sales, it would take Wii Play over 10 years to pass 6M. My guess is that Wii Play will end up somewhere around 4-4.5M.

Why pack it with a game it doesn't work with, when they've already got a perfect demo title to pack it in with in Wii Sports Resort?

So then it is a perfectly sound comparison, since ToS on GC sold around 300k-ish and ToS2 (spin-off) looks to be about 60-70% of that (probably more if it sticks around with 4-5k weeks for the remainder of the year)

4K a week for the rest of the year? I think that would be unprecedented Tales tails. It's a very front-loaded series.
400

Also, FF X-2 was more like 85%, at least in original releases.

I seem to recall something about the tie ratio being the same before and after Slim. Is that what you're referring to?

PSP hasn't been selling as a primarily UMD player for awhile now. My point being that it's software sales, while good by PSP standards, are not good by "top-selling video game console" standards. By the usage of PSP changing, I mean from how it was perceived at the beginning of its life. The Slim is just a wholy giving over to the "multi-purpose with gaming just another part" mindset the PSP was already in.
