Media Create Sales: 7/14 - 7/20

The reason I asked about price collapse on Mario Sluggers and now with Wario Land is because I'm curious if retailers have decided not to drop the price on Nintendo games, expecting them to have huge legs (the 'Evergreen' model). If that's true, that could be very beneficial for Nintendo and it might keep an opening month's poor sales far from being indicative of anything.

It was from an obscure interview from a few months ago.

In other Metal Gear Solid 4 news, Tanaka revealed to the site that Konami expects sales to be similar to past titles. While the sales focus is on the European and North American markets, the company is aiming for sales of one million in Japan alone. Nikkei pointed out to Tanaka that the PS3 hardware has yet to hit the two million mark in Japan, to which Tanaka noted that many users are waiting for MGS4 to buy a PS3. He also feels that because a number of major PS3 titles from other companies will be released before MGS4, the system's userbase total will rise.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/858/858436p1.html

I'm curious to see how SCIV and Beijing 2008 perform next week.
Ah ok, i see. Thanks for the info! :) I guess Metal Gear Solid 4 wont reach 1 million copies sold in Japan, but i guess it can reach 700k atleast, when its all said and done (its on something around 610k - 620k copies of MGS 4 sold so far in Japan i think).

Thanks.

And have we seen any hint of price collapse with Wario Land thus far?

For price collapse hints you can check on amazon.jp, if the game starts to be sold from amazon with high discount (40-50% or more), it means the price is dropping everywhere and probably you can find it inside Sofmap big baskets

Hi guys,

I think you guys deserve a big THANK YOU for sharing those charts every week with us all!

I had to use your data extensively today, since Media Create removes previous instances of their weekly chart, so really, big thanks to those of you who think of us all on a weekly basis ;)

THANKS ;))

Thanks for the info. Looks like Wario is still all right as far as a price collapse goes.

To be fair, Wario did well... relative to it's first day sales. Still not great, but if it makes it to ~75k, that would change it from a huge bomb, to just a small one.

That's because there's no shortage, they've already shipped 1 million! :D

Another year, another trashing by PowerPro PS2 for the wii version. Which means another lame PS2 port next year... sigh... :(

With these sales Wii might not get a versions next year. Fucking awful.

I agree with you.
People must remember 2D platform games are a niche in Japan nowadays, many similar games have been published on DS and they had "poor" sales.

2D platform games basically are dead since Saturn's dead... considering some PS1 titles, they are dead since 128 bit arrived on the shelves.

Unless they try it on another platform (which would require a new engine), they don't have a whole lotta choice. Though they're different games, the franchise is starting off well on the Wii in the US, and the PS2 sales are eventually going to slow down.

We're talking about 2 different games here. I'm not talking about MLB Power Pros, the game that the U.S gets.

Nintendo already said they weren't going to put up a Player's Choice line this generation as they believe people will just wait for the price drop instead of buying it at full price.

Well, you wouldn't expect them to say, "You know all those games you've been wanting but not been willing to pay full price for? Yeah, hold off a little longer." I'm still waiting on Zelda. I've beaten the game on the GameCube, but I'm waiting until Player's Choice to play through it again on the Wii.

Wow - 17 of the 21 DS games on that Famitsu list are made by Nintendo. Amazing!

Kind of puts all the whining about Nintendo being a bully (of sorts) on the Wii - i.e. they make all the best sellers - in a new light, eh? I mean, if Nintendo can basically clean up on the DS and STILL earn third-party support, why can't the same thing happen with the Wii?

The DS has five 3rd Party million sellers, not four. Just a small correction. Dragon Quest V will make it six pretty soon.

Wasn't 20k first say sales?

Not actually that important
Guys, what are the last figures we have for The World Ends With You?

Off-Topic here, but do we have any (even a more-or-less figure) for the US/EU?

As always, big cheers to Joshua, Donny, cvx, stump, Moor for jpngamechart and to all the chart guys :) (Lotuschart! :lol )

Edit: Didn't know FFIII DS had become a million seller as well

Which, thanks to the fact that MHP and MHP (BEST) have stopped selling means that MHP (BEST Reprint) is at 142,964. :)

Thanks, cvxfreak!

193K to the end of 2007 thanks, in large part, to its price collapse.

I found these over at 2ch released about the time of the normal Famitsu release. However no one posted them here, for some reason. :?

Edit:
Real Numbers

DSL 61000
PSP 71000
Wii 42000
PS3 12000
PS2 9700
360 4900

There may be a problem with these numbers, since no one else posted them, but they seem like the normal numbers to me. The surprised reaction at 2ch came from the fact that PS2>PS3.

At this rate in the weeks following ToV and IU we could be seeing a consistent 360>PS3.

Who would've thought?

Joshua/Panther -

I'm pretty sure the 360 and ps3 ltd figures that you have are incorrect. I redid my calculations and these are the numbers that I have:

360 = 592,641
ps3 = 2,231,064

Don't forget to take into account the Media-Create offset that was shown with the posted 2007 Top 500 numbers at GEIMIN.net. I believe it affects a -1 to the 360 number, a -6 to the PS3 number, and a -1 to Wii's total compared to summing up the weekly numbers.

I will be happy if WarioLand makes it over 100k, but it will be a struggle. Would have loved for it do more, though. :( Hopefully it does better in the US and Europe.

Do we know if Fatal Frame 4 has a firm US/Europe release date?

Ah, all those PS3 games didn't bomb if you take the new userbase into account! Tie ratio > all.

He donny why the bump for the PS3 and 360 HW?

360's been "up" for a while. It coincided with the large RPG announcements for the system. While normally announcements don't affect hardware sales much, with the 360's low normal sales and hardcore fanbase, an extended "RPG announcement" bump is as good an explanation as any.

PS3's just sort of fluctuating around the low 10's at the moment.

Looks like Vesperia will almost certainly put 360 above PS3 for a couple of weeks. Hopefully the constant trickle of RPGs over the next few months will keep the 360 going strongly. I'm sure that elusive million is in sight now. They just need to get some good marketing going, and I think they have been doing a relatively good job with the RPG marketing actually.

Falcom has found a pretty faithful fanbase on PSP. Poor Wario.

Yea, I definitely believe it has a pretty good chance to hit the magic million before it is all said and done. Just for reference does anyone have the original LTD for the xbox in Japan?
