Hmm, I just don't get it. There is no need to argue about the GREAT PS2 sales in North America and Europe, but what was so good about the PS2 sales in the last ~12 months? It has sold about 2 Mio. units in 2005, which was a drop of 35% compared to 2004.

I've looked up the price for a PS2 on a few Japanese sites and it seems to come up with a ~$167 price (adjusted for yen). Is this just a suggested retail and the PS2 can be found for less?

The PS2 sales have been pretty moderate for quite a while and I'm wondering when it will actually be time for them to do a price drop, especially since it's been out for 7 months longer in Japan than the US.

Imho 2005 wasn't where the next gen started - atleast not in Japan and imho no even in Europe/USA.
Next gen in Japan will start when PS3 (and eventually NRev) are out, but not when X360 sells less than 100k during the christmas season.
Gamecube is more or less dead in Japan, Xbox is REALLY dead, so it's not like it's surprising that PS2 sells more than GC/Xbox.
I just think it's a bit too much to find that amazing.
