Are you ready for a bet?
If Wii party outsells(slightly) more than Mario Party 8 at this point in the consoles life cycle, I don't think that would be impressive. User base and all. All things considered, Mario is still king until a Wii ____ game can topple NSMBwii.

ToP did OK. Basara dropped pretty hard, though.
Huh? It sold another 70k, that's pretty solid considering how it's already well over the total sales of any previous Basara game ever.

Because when you release 2-3 games a year. you don't want all of them to be the same thing (big main RPG) otherwise as we have actually SEEN in the last few years, you basically destroy interest. People get burnt out, and they're less interested. That's why main Tales sales declined from over 500k to under 500k.

If you're going to want to release 2-3 games a year anyway, it makes sense to have one main game on consoles, supported by fanservice games developed externally which has shown to be a release format that the fanbase embraces. They don't mind buying a silly crossover game in Summer, and then a major Tales RPG in Winter.
My argument is why not release that main Tales RPG on all systems? If they get 300K on the PS3, why not release a Wii version that nets another 150, and a PSP version that nets another 150? And hell, a 3DS version that also nets sales. Sure, there's crossover console owners so it won't be quite 300+150+150+X, but it will definitely be more than just releasing on one system. All they do when they move the home from system to system is alienate their fanbase. Being on all systems will also make it more economically feasible to release all of the main titles WW. Releasing WW, they can also release a 360 version.

It's a cheap series to port. This is my argument for the And strategy. Why limit yourself to +- 500, when you can shoot for a million.

You can use the same reasoning for NSMBW, I don't think you can use userbase when the games in question are all on the same platform. Wii Party won't outsell Mario Party slightly...at this rate it might even reach 3M.

There's no indication that it's a cheap series to port. Everytime they port a Tales game it takes months/years of development with a decent size staff. That's wasted resources that could have been working on a new Tales game.

If you released a Tales game on every system at once, the sales probably wouldn't be much more than the sales on the strongest console (in this case the PS3) since most Tales fans are on the PS3. Wouldn't be worth the dev costs.

The only reason they are doing Graces on PS3, is for the same reason Vesperia ended up on PS3 and Symphonia ended up on PS2: in each case they put a major Tales title on a system where the fanbase wasn't and so they lated ported it to the system where the fanbase is.

Seems that the psp crossed the 15 million mark.

PSP | 31.106 | 49.380 | 1.265.138 | 15.008.226

I wonder if it will be able to get to 20 million when it is all said and done?

15 million units sold, and yet only one unique game title has sold over a million units. That's really pretty sad. :(

Like Golden Week Famitsu didn't combine weeks online. That's a big improvement over previous years.

There are some titles that big (budget price/full price) ratio gave an idea that sequels would do much bigger numbers, like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Yakuza 1, Monster Hunter Freedom 1.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva [Dekkai Ohaidoku-han / Ohaidoku-han] didn't have many weeks to chart until Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 but it had big sales as long it was there.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 would have a shot to do better at PS3 but Sega had different opinion and the increasing sales of Demon's Souls [PlayStation 3 the Best] create expectations for Demon Souls 2.
There are many PSP games that didn't follow this thend (Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2, Tekken 6 from bigger sellers) and Ace Combat X2 looks it will join them.
Futrhermore ''low'' sales of White Knight Chronicles: EX Edition and Phantasy Star Portable [PSP the Best] suggested that the sequels wouldn't show improvement.

It could very well be under 700K, but it'll be well over the "fixed" number. :p

Looking at the Wii LTD and weekly sales, it's becoming increasingly clear that it won't ever reach the PS2. PS3 LTD may even over the long term come to compare favourably with it in a hypothetical scenario where this generation does last ten years.

Interesting.

Don't have much more to add other than the fact that the Miis seem to have replace Mario as Nintendo's go-to mascot for "new" IPs.
Uh the Wii is doubled the PS3 in LTD and its sold the same as PS3 this year so far...The PS3 isn't going to reach the PS2 if the Wii can't do it.

I predict Kirby will be a million seller.

SlipperySlope said:

Tales of series has a pretty dedicated fanbase, it makes much more financial sense to make exclusive games, although PSP>Wii or 360>PS3 multiplatform games could work, since it'll be easier or makes more sense to port than other combos.

Also big drop for Last Ranker.

So it seems that Basara 3 Wii WAY outdid Basara 2 Wii's total in its first week as well.

And looking at those horrendous B2 Wii sales, I'm pleasantly surprised they even made the sequel on Wii at all! :p

But that has to be something that B3 Wii did that much better than B2 Wii, even though it still did quite a bit more on PS3.

Well one is a port of a 2 year old PS2 game and one is a brand new game. Not hard to figure out why 3 did better.

Come on guys, let's give Hero of Legend some satisfaction. Yeah, I'll say the Wii version of Sengoku Basara 3 did pretty well. It looks like as far as third parties go, the Wii could well be the next Xbox360 in Japan. Pretty cool.

Has Square said that they even cancelled that game for the PS3? Or are they just keeping silent hoping that people would forget that it was supposed to come out for the PS3. If that's the case it ain't working. :lol

Wada hinted at a S-E shareholders meeting sometime last year that LR PS3 was probably not coming.

Not a shame at all. The best version is available on Steam to anyone who wants to play it. I can't imagine a PS3 version being anywhere as good as that, so why release an inferior version so much later? :lol

Sure it is. The Famitsu Most Wanted charts are pretty gibberish. Lost in Shadow was in the top 30 for a long time prior to release. This is a game that did, what, 600 copies on opening week? I guess everyone who wrote Famitsu to vote for it picked it up :p

Anything particular you are seeing against it? So far we could say it seems to be getting the Vesperia treatment (of adding quite a bit of extra content and fixing bugs in Graces particular case), most likely releasing on a better timeslot compared to Vesperia (which launched in September like 5 days after Pokemon Red/Green remakes) and Graces Wii (middle of December but with FFXIII the week after it), middle of december being the usual timeslot for new tales, also the 15th anniversary. Not looking like bigger RPG franchises will have anything to release in December (no FF13 Versus, no DQ10, no Pokemon, no MHP3rd as in behemoth, attention-luring for that matter).

Now what I see against it, 3DS could be launching around that time, which could lure quite a bit of attention/space at retailers. Vesperia 360 had some good legs, Graces not so much. Next Tales is already known to be coming to PS3, this is possibly Namco's turn to do some reasonable marketing to not overshadow Graces. Price will probably increase from 7k-something to 8k-something but I doubt that matters much.

If Graces is coming out in December, it will compete with Ninokuni. I don't think there'll be much crossover competition though. The fanbase which generally buys Tales games will be unlikely to pass on it if they really want it to buy something like Ninokuni instead.

I expect Graces to do at least 300k. It would certainly be hard to match ToV's LTD, but I don't think it'll be that far behind.

The number of Japanese that own both Wii and PS3 is definetely bigger of these who own both 360 and PS3. No matter how loyal the Tales fanbase is I can''t see many double purchases unless there is a very big amount of new stuff. That's a good explanation for the sales of previous Wii ports.
