Was thinking if any reprint of a re-release made it to the top10 on its start, but so-so. Yakuza 1 no number, MHP1 no number, Mingol 4 did 4,638...but then there's MHP2G with 30k...but it was in December and didn't make it to top10.

So, impressive for MW2 lol.
That's the first re-release.

Not bad for Other M, but I doubt there'll be any legs whatsoever :(

Why not?

I think it should be able to easily shift another 20-30k LTD when all's said and done, making it the best-selling Wii/GCN entry in the series - and making it one of the better performances for a Metroid title in Japan.

100k is likely out of reach, but something in the 70k range seems plausible.

EDIT:

...and I wasn't far off my Other M guess in the other thread :)

SMG2 and Art Academy showing good legs, and Wii Party rocking on with an increase over last week.

DOUBLE EDIT:

You're one of my favourite posters, especially in the sales threads, but I always felt you were too pessimistic on SMG2. Of course, I was possibly too optimistic but it looks like my optimism may be rewarded for once :)

It's the best opening week by some margin since Fusion, that's pretty impressive. I could see it beating Corruption overall, but Hunters would be optimistic.

Are there any (vague, presumably) numbes for how Metroid, Metroid II and Super Metroid did?

Ahh, reprint mention fooled me into thinking it was a Legendary Hits reprint, but that was the first one. Pretty weird branding though, shouldn't it be MW2 Legendary Hits or regular the best! branded re-release, sold pretty good to earn it.

I didn't think it would end up coming close to the original and would probably not even hit 900K. Its holding better than I thought.

3rd Birthday Team Aims for Half a Million Units

In the latest batch of Tweets at The 3rd Birthday official Twitter, Tetsuya Nomura and director Hajime Tabata shared some details into the game's target sales figures and what exactly such figures mean.

When The 3rd Birthday did the old platform switch from a cell phone game to PSP, producer Yoshinori Kitase gave a figure of 500,000 units to the team.

This doesn't mean that Square Enix has a sales target of half a million units for the game, though. Explained Nomura, this type of target figure is "an ideal sales figure image from the producer to help determine the scale of the project." For Crisis Core, he noted, Kitase gave out a one million target. They used this to determine the game content and formation of the staff.

In terms of actual sales, going by Dissidia Final Fantasy and Crisis Core, 3rd Birthday should have no problem beating the 500,000 mark domestically.

so, bringing Metroid's development home didn't do jackshit to increase the sales significantly and instead, it will probably sell worse in the west.

Deca Sports 3 should be interesting to watch - I remember the surprise when the sequel flopped hard, selling a fraction of the overconfident first shipment. Wonder how they're approaching this one...

Bring Metroid's development home? Why do people keep saying this? Sakamoto was making Metroid games and releasing them at the same times as Retro Studios did starting in 2002. If anything this is his third game to match Retro's three. It only stands out because it's 3D and on the Wii instead of a handheld. I would say instead of it being an attempt for it to do better in Japan, it was just a matter of Sakamoto being given the budget to do a Wii game. I'm sure they wanted it to do better than it is, but I don't see this has to do with any of it. As far as how it will sell in the west, how did Fusion and Zero Mission do?
