It was noted before. 5k+ sales. Lets conveniently say its at 40k LTD then. It could get to around 60k lifetime.

No. We know SKEV did 10k digital PS4+PSV. From my memory, PS4's digital ratio is one of the best, if not the best alongside PSV. We can make a decent guess that its a 6:4 split.
I'm sure its higher than 1k, but I just picked a random low number for the sake of my post lol. Also, a 6:4 split seems kinda high IMO.

Again, that is the improved Vita version. I think people are getting used to waiting for the improved portable version or waiting for the price to drop. The main producer of the Disgaea series is still there and did D5...I don't think the gameplay itself was diminished at all.

I love the series, but lets face it...there are less changes between each game than there is between Madden releases...and at least Madden comes out every year, as opposed to the 2-3 year Disgaea window, not counting the Vita re-releases.

They need to embrace new platforms and add something new to the series that non-Disgaea fans can get excited about. I honestly think the graphics are what hurts the most...very difficult to find almost any PS3 game with worse graphics than D5.

But I think they will survive enough to make a D6...sales of Disgaea games have been dropping for awhile and they have lost the publishing rights to alot of the other games they used to release. They may have to close the NISA offices and let someone else publish it like the first Disgaea. All that being said, they still have a near-monopoly on SRPG games...but Project X Zone is not even 1% of the SRPG that Disgaea is, yet sells alot better. Maybe they could also use their SRPG "engine" on another publisher's IP, ala Marvel vs Capcom or that Pokemon-Tekken fighter.
Speaking of portable versions, didn't NISA claim Disgaea 5 wouldn't be ported to Vita because of tech limitations? I could be wrong, but if true, that would certainly hurt financially.

One thing that has annoyed me about the past console releases are the pricey DLC. I admit I spent a fair amount of cash on D3 DLC and to a lesser extent D4. It really did make sense for many to hold off for the Vita version. Plus SRPGs tend to be more suitable for portable systems. I also agree that graphics hurt sales some, but I would think the lack of any major changes in the last few games have been a bigger factor.

Doesn't low stock usually lead to higher used game sales and therefore the game might lose some sales even if the stock situation stabilizes following week ?
Used market isn't such a big problem if demand is there. There are numerous examples and Etrian Mystery Dungeon is a recent one. It took 3 weeks until new copies are printed, that didn't stop its sales rising when stock arrived.

And we talk for just one week this time.

Is FE a sRPG? Because if so, then NI doesn't have any "near-monopoly".

And even accounting for digital sales, D5 is an outright bomb.
Geez why are people so quick to shoot down things here? I already said in this thread that sales were terrible...and sorry but I meant a near Playstation monopoly...all the other SRPGs have been on the Nintendo portables.

Aren't Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen Original Generations, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice and Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Taisen Z Jigoku hen PS3 SRPGs as well? They sold way more than any other Disgaea entry on PS3.

cause people didn't want to buy a used copy which was priced more than the new one

Etrian Mistery Dungeon : 72,038 / 82,215 - tie ratio: 87,62%

Assassination Classroom : 24,457 / 31,611 - tie ratio: 81,49%

Seven Deadly Island : 28,253 / 44,835 - tie ratio : 63,02%

(Famitsu numbers, first week, LTD, first week / LTD tie ratio %)

all those titles were sold-out after first week, but EMD is probably the one which suffered the most for the stock problems

Reading a few pages back, what's with the relentless intent on painting BB as a bomba in here? It's starting to look a bit petty. It didn't sell gangbusters, but it sold good for an exclusive game on a system with a 1.2m install base. This is more or less a Souls game, remember?
People love to mock "failures". I'd guess you haven't been here for almost every Wii U release?

On the Wii U side, well at least Mario Party 10 is having some legs... I guess it has a chance to hit like 150K?

If it lost ~20% of sales each week for the next 5 weeks MP10 would be at 150K, so I guess 150K LTD should be in reach barring some other event cutting into its legs... (Golden Week is around the end of the month right?)

In 2-3 weeks there's the GW and sales will not plummet as you predict.

Good catch. 1997 PS1 numbers don't match those I have but maybe Famitsu did adjustments later.
I don't have any issues from 1997 to compare, but;

1998/09/28 ~ 1998/10/04

These numbers match.

1996/12/02 ~ 1996/12/08

PlayStation number here disagrees, others match

1996/11/04 ~ 1996/11/10

Numbers match

I don't have any issues from 1997 to compare, but;
First 9 weeks of 1997 for PS.
Code:
1997 01 {1996.12.30 - 1997.01.05} 190.246
1997 02 {1997.01.06 - 1997.01.12} 136.465
1997 03 {1997.01.13 - 1997.01.19} 93.554
1997 04 {1997.01.20 - 1997.01.26} 98.797
1997 05 {1997.01.27 - 1997.02.02} 178.997
1997 06 {1997.02.03 - 1997.02.09} 131.587
1997 07 {1997.02.10 - 1997.02.16} 104.070
1997 08 {1997.02.17 - 1997.02.23} 116.087

Numbers back to 1996 in this thread.
First 9 weeks of 1997 for PS.
Code:
1997 01 {1996.12.30 - 1997.01.05} 190.246
1997 02 {1997.01.06 - 1997.01.12} 136.465
1997 03 {1997.01.13 - 1997.01.19} 93.554
1997 04 {1997.01.20 - 1997.01.26} 98.797
1997 05 {1997.01.27 - 1997.02.02} 178.997
1997 06 {1997.02.03 - 1997.02.09} 131.587
1997 07 {1997.02.10 - 1997.02.16} 104.070
1997 08 {1997.02.17 - 1997.02.23} 116.087
1997 09 {1997.02.24 - 1997.03.02} 134.452
These are the adjusted numbers, yes.

You can see the first week is 1.2x the old one; the other weeks, 1.3x.

Unfortunately there's no uniform adjustment, much like what they did for the PS2 (2000/05 to 2001/05: 1.4x; 2002/09 to 2003/03, unknown)

PS: I miss Famitsu software share. =\

1996 49 {1996.12.02 - 1996.12.08} 81,094 / 73,722 = 1.100

1997 02 {1997.01.06 - 1997.01.12} 113,721 / 136,465 = 0.833 (1.2x)
1997 03 {1997.01.13 - 1997.01.19} 71,965 / 93,554 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 04 {1997.01.20 - 1997.01.26} 75,998 / 98,797 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 05 {1997.01.27 - 1997.02.02} 137,690 / 178,997 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 06 {1997.02.03 - 1997.02.09} 101,221 / 131,587 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 07 {1997.02.10 - 1997.02.16} 80,054 / 104,070 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 08 {1997.02.17 - 1997.02.23} 89,298 / 116,087 = 0.769 (1.3x)
1997 09 {1997.02.24 - 1997.03.02} 104,194 / 135,452 = 0.769 (1.3x)

So PS1 numbers from that thread were already adjusted once (1.1x from what was originally published for 1996.12.02 - 1996.12.08), and then adjusted again from Chris's source (a further 1.2x - 1.3x for the beginning of 1997 at least).

Edit: Thanks Chris, was about to double check that one.

I don't have my database available right now but I think I had posted them some months (years?) ago in these threads. It was FFVII connected and how PS1 took off after its release.

Thanks for that it's interesting to know because we know sell in was 2 million end of 1995 in Japan and the famitsu numbers show sell through to be approximately more than 1.65m.
1996 has it around 4.35m sold through and almost 5m sold in.

Would be great if we could get the monthly break down + updated adjustments.

Do these numbers include digital downloads? I imagine digital downloads must be pretty big in Japan considering they've got way better internet than NA.
Famitsu tracks digital sales in a monthly chart. They indicate that Japan isn't really that big on digital downloads. The best sellers are typically pushing 10% of their retail numbers.

Reading about 90's sales data reminds me how Famitsu changed, in the past they put sometimes some numbers, for example let's say RE4 article, they showed other RE data

now they just show the top30 and nothing else, and also on the Internet you find nothing, I remember back in the day there were a lot of sites sharing some numbers, there was something like a yahoo page in which there was the top 5 sw for PS2 and GBA iirc

They said that, but I doubt they'll pass on the chance to port the ultimate version to Vita, specially with the PS4 version underperforming.
It's regretable they pretty much vowed staying on Playstation to death, thanks to publicity offered by Sony. Mostly because I think there is an audience interested in their games on PC. We have seen a bunch of older japanese games get ported to PC with success.

I don't know where this idea that Mario Party suddenly stops selling comes from but if someone look at previous entries he'll see the legs this game has. The game will be over 200k before the end of this year.

3DS has its first big 2016 games announced in a week: Snack World by Level-5 and Monster Hunter Stories. This is shaping nicely since it shows at least some developers are willing to keep supporting the platform. Level-5 was expected, given YW, and Capcom too, but the latter has an interesting project to go by.

yeah and i would also argue that Valkyria Chronicles is one, as well as these agarest games or even the xcom games :p
Yeah. The point is, you cannot be a "near-monopoly" on Sony platforms when there a SRPGs selling three / four times your best selling game. And also there is a variety of other SRPGs that sold pretty well.

Wait, you're serious about MP10 reaching 300k?

Isn't that a bit much, even with legs? Unless it gets bundled or something
MP10 will sell "well" during Golden Week, Obon, etc. There's not much competition on Wii U after all, and the platform has a nice userbase of kids / families that will buy the game over time.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

why are so many people hating it? Didn't expect those dislikes.
Might be the same people that hate/dislike every MH that isn't on their favorite system so I wouldn't read too much into it. We agreed that there probably won't be a MH5 yet and it won't be on 3DS, so some people expected/hoped for a Vita/PS4 game before MH5 hits.

Doesn't look like Capcom will be changing their MH platforms anytime soon. I think "HD" versions of MH Stories and MH4G will be ready near launch of the nxt Nintendo handheld and MH5 will follow after that.
