Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Good numbers for EoE.

I think they are ok, but I was expecting a bit more..remember with this type of game usually the LTD doesn't get all that much higher. Not a bomb or anything, but I think it could have performed better.

For a new IP? Maybe.

For an HD RPG that will sell maybe double after the international release? Prob not so hot.

Well, I remain a little more optimistic about the appeal of EoE out of Japan, the visual style is a bit more western and guns are always welcome around here, it may have more global appeal (may).

Not bad numbers at all, could be better but it´s ok.

question: didnt a lot of you say that the PS3 will lead over the Wii in the beginning of 2010? Not that I ever thought it´d happen, but what´s your response to what´s happening at the moment? NSMB stronger than expected?

A lot did but not everybody. The question always was for how long NSMBW alone can carry Wii. This week Wii had an amazing hold. PS3 doesn't seem that can follow right now and I don't see any title that can rise hardware until middle March.

I was only scanning through these numbers, but I only now realized that NSMB has almost sold 6 million in Japan alone... That is insane! I hope NSMBWii will have similar legs, its the better game of the two. Maybe there will even be another push when Galaxy 2 is released.

EoE 360 doing 25k indicates that the audience that existed for 360 exclusive RPGs have by and large bought PS3s (probably on the back of FF13). EoE 360 not causing a hardware spike means that anyone who is buying a platform for the express purpose of playing an RPG at this point is going to buy the PS3.

Neither of these facts should surprise anyone, of course.

What I wanna know is what weirdo would buy EoE on 360 right now.

Not bad for EoE, though I have to say I was expecting 150k+. AT3 seems about right.

No.

Considering the increase in PS3 userbase, as well as ready-made fanbase, and considering they had the engine and assets already made, I think it should have stayed on PS3.

Just as we switch the prediction league to M-Create, the early Famitsu leak comes back but not entirely (rest of top30 + new releases missing). We should threaten to use Dengeki next, maybe we get first day sales back.

Number-wise, I think EOE is a bit disappointing. Being multiplatform certainly seems to help it match many other new IPs LTDs on these systems with the 1st week only:
End of Eternity 134k (110k PS3, 24k 360)
The Last Remnant 135k (360 LTD)
Eternal Sonata 124k (70k 360 LTD, 53k PS3 LTD)
Infinite Undiscovery 114k (360 LTD)
Lost Odyssey 110k (360 LTD)

Doesn't match (established franchises) SO4 or TOV-PS3 first week though. I thought it could do the former, which was just 166k. The 360 version pales with other titles where it got a (timed or not) exclusive, 24k is pretty average. The PS3 version being just half of what the TOV port did 1st week isn't stellar either.

Ar Tonelico 3 on the other hand looks like it sticked to its userbase (pun intended). Right between AT1 and AT2 (57k and 68k) respective first week.

Also considering the almost zero sales Valkyria Chronicles 2 will have outside Japan I think this was another stupid move from Sega. Unfortunately they ''killed'' it in the west.

I said as much last week. The decline was even sharper than I anticipated.

4. Ar Tonelico 3 (PS3) - 61,000
The reason I participated in the guessing game for the first time, and with 65k I came quite close. I had a bit of hope that it might actually outsell part 2, which it failed to, but it's still a very respectable number.

I got very close on DQ as well (900k), but I overestimated EoE a bit, particularly on 360 -- I mostly went with a gut feeling of a bit less than what others were predicting at the time.

Yup, what a shame.

Decent sales for EoE, expected a lot more esp from the ps3 version. Maybe its was too westernised (guns, art, color palette) for the japanese audience. Not much in terms of hardware bump for the ps3 too. Also, didn't the last rebellion and MAG release this week? Wonder how those 2 titles did.

Won't be the first time they did something that stupid, its Sega after all.

Maybe EoE have decent legs, a new ip need some mouth to mouth advertising.

If it follows the typical front-loaded sales pattern for games of its type, perhaps "mouth to mouth" is unintentionally apt...

This article apparently says "Sengoku 3 managed to broaden the users (more players than the previous series)". and this was said by the head of Omega Force.

The translation I saw earlier painted it as more a broadening of the demographic rather than an increase in the number of players which tends to make more sense, especially given the way the game was being advertised.

Why would EoE have sold like a well established franchise like SO4 or TOV? I think it did basically on par for a new IP rpg. Should do about 175k ltd in Japan and then 150k US and 150k Euro.

I just read a rumor on a banned Nintendo site that Nintendo will reveal new hardware at this years GDC. The rumor comes from a supposed worker from a major publisher.

Sega was looking for easy money without even thinking of worlwide sales, they should have stuck with the PS3.

At this point would it be an insane decision to do a Wii port for the western market?

I think a few people are overestimating greatly the sales appeal of a SRPG that isn't named Final Fantasy Tactics. :lol

*no big point until we get the numbers confirmed, oh well*
I thought EOE disadvantage (being a new IP) would just counter those games disadvantages (not hitting both platforms simultaneously or being a late port). But in the end, it seems it hit EOE quite harder.

Lets remember here for a non-fucked-consoles-generation reference that Radiata Stories sold 190k first week.
*safely ignore this post if legit numbers tell a different story*

I think Sega was hoping to get into the Japanese PSP ad-hoc community. But I guess they failed to send that message (probably because the first VC doesn't even have a multiplayer).

I hope they localize it anyway.

To be fair, Zelda has to be released in 2010 according to Aonuma, Spirit Tracks was actually pushed forward so that there wouldn't be two Zelda launches in a single year. After Zelda is out all known Wii EAD projects have launched. In fact, I don't think there's a single game for Wii in development that is set for release in 2011.

I'm expecting another 'third pillar', after 2010 Nintendo will decide which of the old two pillars they'll take down first.

Well, if Hellraizer is right and the DS2 is coming in September, a GDC announcement makes sense. If it's not coming until later though I don't see much reason to announce it in March.

Given Nintendo's level of secrecy, I think that any sort of release this year would involve an announcement at GDC. Anyone else would give 3rd parties a year to a year and a half to prepare software. I don't get the feeling that they'd be very keen on providing info to 3rd parties ahead of time with the way the internet likes leaks and rumors anymore.

I think Sega was hoping to get into the Japanese PSP ad-hoc community. But I guess they failed to send that message (probably because the first VC doesn't even have a multiplayer).

I hope they localize it anyway.

It's coming in the summer to North America. So meh.

So I realize we aren't doing predictions, but I'm going to do them anyway for God Eater and SO4.

God Eater- 325K

SO4- 55K

Hmm, I'll go out on a limb and predict God Eater to be a surprisingly large success.

God Eater - 440k

Star Ocean 4 - 62k

Oh its gonna be big..the only question is how big. I think I might be too conservative with my prediction, but we'll see. I also think I might be too high on SO4 :lol

Sega was looking for easy money without even thinking of worlwide sales, they should have stuck with the PS3.

At this point would it be an insane decision to do a Wii port for the western market?
It would sell better on Wii than PSP in NA, but I don't think greatly so. Certainly not enough to cover the effort of porting it, I'd think.

Honestly if they were going to port it anywhere for NA, the wisest course of action would be to "port" it to PSN for PS3.

Well, I remain a little more optimistic about the appeal of EoE out of Japan, the visual style is a bit more western and guns are always welcome around here, it may have more global appeal (may).

Not bad numbers at all, could be better but it´s ok.

Have you scrutinized the release schedule for the day Resonance of Fate comes out in America?

Yeah. It isn't going to do well.

Is NSMBwii still supply-constrained?

One store still has a limit of 1 per person.

I think restocks are constant, but the threat of complete sell outs is gone until the next major holiday.

The translation I saw earlier painted it as more a broadening of the demographic rather than an increase in the number of players which tends to make more sense, especially given the way the game was being advertised.

It's a comment on the audience. He said that "even though at 250k we sold only half of the previous entry, I feel that we have captured many new users in the process".

Basically he's just damage controlling for low sales, and it doesn't indicate that they are either happy about it, or that it is a good thing on its own.
