Media Create Sales: Week 2, 2016 (Jan 11 - Jan 17)

They probably meant an "over-the-top" prediction like those you like to do.

IMO, Chances of 4 million for this 3rd Quarter LTD...70%. ;)

Well, basically 4 million seem pretty easy, and here why:

Splatoon first quarter: 1.62 million shipped. Japan sales: 380,000 ( retail, not digital)

Now, last quarter, October / November / December sales:
Japan sales - 450,000 ( retail, not digital )

In Japan, the sales during October / November / December were bigger than in May / June.

Now, people could say "but this is Japan only", well, let's talk about USA then.

May + June = 455,000 (retail and digital)
November only sales = 245,000 ( retail, no digital, and withouth one of the two bundle)
Now, for break 455k in the third quarter of sales (Oct/Nov/Dec) it need to sell "only" less than 210k in October and December COMBINED. When it sold 245k in November, withouth digital.

Seem safe say that, even in USA the holidays sales were bigger than at launch.

There is the Europe. No data for this, but, in UK Splatoon sold barely over 40k in May+June.
During the week 49, Splatoon has sold over 10k, ONLY that week... and with the others 12 weeks of October / November / December , seem safe that even in UK the holidays sales were bigger than in May / June.

In short, looks like Splatoon this holidays has sold more than at launch. If launch was 1.62 million, this quarter is almost for sure over that.

Which mean Splatoon is almost for sure >4.04 million LT.

What are the expectations for P&D X thus far? I'm presuming better than Mario Edition, but worse than P&D Z. Maybe 500-600K?

Is it? At this point, the western aligned audience (~100-200k LTDs) seems pretty much an established and constant thing for the PS4. TW3, BF, CoD, F4, and so on. JC3 is another game in the same vein, so I don't think it performing is a surprise.
Eh, the games you listed are some of the biggest third party western releases on consoles. JC3 isn't as big so I do find it interesting that more western titles, outside of the biggest ones, are relevant to some extent.

Big or no, the title has/targets a fairly active and dedicated audience that has reliably been showing up for these games. JC3 may not be big, but its the next game in the same vein and so that same audience showing up for their next serving isn't really surprising, but it will likely do "lower than the top" numbers but still be a reliable performance based on past indication.

Fair enough.

First Day Sell-through {2016.01.21}

[PS4] [PS3] Yakuza: Kiwami <ADV> (Sega) (¥7.009) - 40-50% Finally the PS4 version is the main

[3DS] Hyrule Warriors Legends # <ACT> (Koei Tecmo) (¥6.264) - 30% expectations on the weekend

[PS4] Just Cause 3 <ACT> (Square Enix) (¥8.424) - 60% selling better than expected

Hey Nirolak, Grimms Notes released yesterday, it seems to be doing "good" (3rd place on Download list and 32th on the grossing ranks).

Too early to say it's gonna be successful but at least it's not a new Rampage Land Rankers lol

Heh I figured the first PSP port must have sold decently, guess I was wrong.

I don't think the first one on PSP was a downgraded port of any specific Musou game. It did sell well for what it was though. 286k. Orochi is probably the most successful "also on portable" multiplatform Musou. 160k for the original and 200k for the expansion re-release... in the same year! Everything else seems pretty much 100k and below under the radar stuff though.

Why? Heavily downgraded handheld ports of musou games haven't sold well for a long time now.

dunno, it's zerda, and the wii u one sold better than I thought. The 3DS has new stuff despite being a downgrade, so I thought it might do well.

Hyrule Warriors did about 120K in 2014. So if it opens at 60K and ends up at 80-100K (I have no idea what legs it's expected to have) that seems decent for a glorified port. I certainly doubt anyone would expect it to outsell the Wii U version.

Probably Multiraid on PSP at 384k.

About a handful of musou games on handhelds sold more than 100k, most being PSP games.

That's larger than I remembered. I could only think of the ~100K type stuff.

Square Enix in general has had quite the renaissance on mobile.

They've both significantly improved their success rate as well as notably lowering their instant-tank rate.

It was only around two years ago that they managed a grand total of one successful f2p game in a year IIRC.

Indeed, they have quite a considerable number of hits now, I remember last October when they released Brave Exvius, FF Grandmasters and DQ Hoshidora and all of them started very strong.

Mobius finally stopped cratering between events (the same can be said to KH Unchained) and they also could maintain the success of "old" titles like DQ Monsters Super Light and School Girl Strikers.

Some good partnerships (Dena with Record Keeper) are also helping a lot.

Btw, Alice Order is releasing next week, this one will be interesting to see since it's from the Million Arthur team, IIRC.

Yakuza Kiwami ads in Akihabara. Difference between PS3 and PS4 SKUs is very small. Seems it is moving PS4 hardware.

Yeah it's kinda harder to gauge how Hyrule Warriors will perform given its a crossover an you can't just look at the performance of Musou spinoffs. However, the 3DS has had a lot of Zelda titles already and TH launched this holiday season and did rather poorly. However, maybe Hyrule Warriors is a different enough change of pace for Zelda fans on the 3DS. It's an easy, fast paced, accessible game with a lot of Zelda fanservice; so it may be more accessible than most Zelda titles but who knows. I'm expecting around the 150k LTD range(give or take 50k).

TriForce Heroes did about as much as one would have expected from a multiplayer Zelda game, and actually had some nice legs over holidays. If we can consider amiibo Festival an utter bomb, I do think TriForce Heroes sales were at least acceptable.

That said, I'm not expecting much more from Hyrule Warriors Legends given how the original one wasn't that successful in Japan, and the fact that Musou games tend to perform poorly on Nintendo handhelds - the only successful one was Samurai Warriors Chronicles, because it was a launch game and the sequel got the legacy from the first one.

It's just a 60FPS upload of the 2yo Director's Cut trailer. Nothing to see here.

By the way, just saw Media Create would have their annual seminar on Feb. 18th.... I suppose hiska-kun is going?

Kirby is charting, nice legs. I wonder which plans Nintendo has for the IP. Technically, we might see another 3DS game since it got only one retail release.

Noooo. Not a single Sega game there. I guess the bad news about Hortensia Saga is true here.T_T

And of course tx God for fate/go not being there. Give more effort if u guys wanted to be rewarded.

Well, at least it's hanging around now. Might get some (small) legs from 2016 at least. Though I suppose it depends on whether a new entry is announced for Vita this year (I doubt it).

I wouldn't be surprised to see another one on the 3DS. Looking at Nintendo's release schedule with the series, there are often releases towards the end of a consoles lifespan. I think Dream Land 3, Amazing Mirror, Mass Attack, and Return to Dreamland all came out in the same year or later than their new console launches.

Edit: Well, looking it up, Return to Dreamland was 1 year before the Wii U launched. Dream Land 3 launched in 1998 on the SNES in Japan, which I find pretty funny.

Hortensia Saga isn't really among the top tier of mobile games. It's like hoping for Phantasy Star Portable to sell like Monster Hunter.

They list it in the "Over 500 million yen a month" section of their financials though.
