Media Create Sales: Week 20, 2013 (May 13 - May 19)

Crappy numbers across the board.

-There is no way that Wii U will do sub 5k I don't think Nintendo will let that happen (I'm" assuming here).

-It really seems like some of Vita's problems could be solved with a consistent release of titles. If I were SCEJ I would lean towards creating smaller games with a strong Japanese appeal; look at what sells and try to work from there until the support comes. Yeah you could call it shovelware but it's better than nothing and at this point Vita will have to catch lightning in a bottle anyways.

Remember those talks about the vita holding its new baseline sales of 20k?

Bad week overall. No need to hit those same old keys again and again in this thread, I guess.

Will Super Luigi U move any units? Otherwise it will be a long wait until Pikmin 3 and the other titles are out.

And I wish Sony would invest on Vita... Makes me a sad panda to see such an awesome piece of hardware to be treated like this... :~

This is probably the closest I've seen Media Create/Famitsu hardware numbers be. Also interesting to see Famitsu track higher for Vita, which I can't recall happening too often.

Holy shit @ Wii U. I thought it was going to remain sort of consistent between 7-10k until more games hit, but it went to 6k. Will it reach sub 5k next week or the week after?

*Looks at upcoming releases for the month in Japan*

Depends on how Revelaitons fares. It's supposed to be released later today.

There is a limit to where Wii U can go. It will not hit 360 numbers like 1-2k. That's impossible for any system besides a MS system while its alive. It will probably balance at 5k until the bigger games. A system selling 5k a week seems pretty much dead though.

All charts launch-aligned. All data from Famitsu.
Weekly numbers presented in logarithmic base 1,000 for clarity. In that case, zero units are represented by one unit.

Tally of the number of titles for that platform in the top 30 for each week.
Certain weeks may have titles that aren't represented. These are the PS3's 7th, and the Wii's 4th and 23rd.

Feel free to criticize or point out mistakes.

Holy shit. People will jump at yet another opportunity to take pot shots at wii u but sales are shitty across the board.

I think the Gamecube reached that territory a few times before the Wii hit, but it was usually right around a price drop or special edition.

PhotoKano Kiss is 13 in MC, the only Wii U game is NSMBU in 19.
PhotoKano Kiss is 24 in Famitsu, below two Wii U games: DQX in 22 and NSMBU in 23.
That looks weird to me. Is it weird? Don't see it being a problem.

I doubt Revelations will give Wii U a big bump since it's on other platforms. The Gamecube's Biohazards have had the advantage - so to speak -f being Gamecube exclusive.

Dat Wii U Sales

What was the bump for GC when RE games were released on it?

It's a pointless comparison since Resident Evil: Revelations will be lucky to sell 10.000 units in Wii U, but anyway:

Resident Evil Remake (Capcom) {2002.03.22} - 119.019 / NEW

GameCube - 34.448 (12.698 previous week)

Resident Evil 0 (Capcom) {2002.11.21} - 190.394 / NEW

GameCube - 32.099 (15.965 previous week)

Resident Evil 4 (Capcom) {2005.01.27} - 145.533 / NEW

GameCube - 9.725 (4.124 previous week)

i wonder if it'll hit sub 5k before pikmin 3 launches

Resident Evil 4 (Capcom) {2005.01.27} - 145.533 / NEW

GameCube - 9.725 (4.124 previous week)

this is painful to see

I'm saying this because last week sales were around 50k and, above all, better than last year despite sales the week before (GW sales) being lower than last year. So, a much slower drop than last year.

I don't want to ruin the party, but Monday 6th was a holiday in Japan. Maybe that explains the small drop for the week post-Golden Week, and now a larger drop it is seen.

And the race to the bottom continues for Wii U (now below PSP, how embarrassing) and Vita (barely above 10k, next week they will cross the threshold again) continues.

Sony has to do something NOW and not just betting that being a remote play device for the PS4 will rescue the Vita (in fact, people will expect to user their phones for that not some additional device). By that time the Vita will be dead and forgotten.

I know the weeks after GW are slow, but man these numbers are sad.

Hopefully the 3DS will start to pick up again since it basically has a great game scheduled every week for the summer.

3DS is taking a nose dive :S

Other consoles are going down but not by much. Wii U might hit sub 5K and Vita sub 10K but I'm sure they'll all go up after exam period or whatever it is recently that's causing everything to go down.

3DS might even drop to 20s first!

People have been mentioning the YoY slump a lot recently, but had anybody been able to pinpoint a definite cause/scapegoat? In the US, NPD keeps talking about generational fatigue, but those systems were never very popular in Japan and the 3DS has a healthy content release schedule.

I can see the "second place" systems doing poorly and aggregating to drag down total volume, but that doesn't really explain the 3DS. I don't really see the PS4/XBone/Wii U relaunch helping things either.

While 3DS hardware sales are pretty much on par with last year, I wonder how software is faring versus 2012. I think its almost past 2011 now.

Cliff notes version: it sells at least 70% more than last year, even in weeks with zero new releases, going three weeks back.
Summer means slow sales for everyone. And it will get worse, for everyone. Just like it got worse, for everyone, last year, the year before, and every other. Vita did not, and will not fall through its old baseline sales. Not this year, and not next year. Let it go.

Reading these "Oh shit Wii U man" posts and seeing the numbers of all the other platforms shows the true nature of some people here :lol

Garbage week all around - something big coming this week?

So the Vita sells about 50k units monthly between the US and Japan?

Japanese hardware sales are abysmal. I don't see a new generation of consoles changing that.

That doesn't change my point that the 20k isn't the new baseline at all.

Shin Megami Tensei IV and Kamen Rider should make things interesting for this week.

Why so defensive? When the Vita was around 6k people were giving it shit every single time.

Yep. Not to mention the 360 has been shat upon in these sales threads for the longest time. No one complained then. Everyone who's doing poorly is fair game to mock in these threads lol.

Who ever said it would be ... in late May? Quotes please.

There is no such thing as a constant basline across a whole year. It should be more than obvious when you look at how sales of all other hardware has trended in the past couple months.
What are you willing to bet that the Vita won't sell above your 20k baseline in, say, December?
