Champion Jockey Special and Winning Post 8 2017 (Switch version) are both coming out on September 14.
Mmh...honestly, I don't know how much this move could be beneficial for KT. In the sense: releasing both those games on the same day could hurt both titles' sales. I fear this is what happened with Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms: the first one had a fine debut for a launch port of a years-old game, while the latter, even considering the context and how it sold on other platforms, had a small first week.

In case you're wondering, here's how past entries in both Winning Post and Jockey series sold starting from past generation (Famitsu, via Gamedatalibrary)

They did say they would release games one after the other.

Wonder when they will actually release something relevant though...

Kimishima states in the last paragraph that they expect more consumers buying hardware as ARMS, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey releases, so that means they must be setting up big shipments for those releases. (Whether weekly or just for release, I don't know.)
That's a bit of a relief to know, but man, a lot of people want this console right now!

This is what I was about to post. Switch is going to have the 2nd and 3rd best selling games this generation while only being on the market for less than 4 months. Impressive.
Impossible when the Wii U exists.

But really, are Switch and Wii U considered the same generation? What about 3DS?

Switch is technically its own next generation, it's just that generation might not mean anything anymore.

Since they've stabilized the servers, SINoALICE has been sitting at #2-#3 on the top grossing grossing charts for several days now. Square Enix might have finally found another major mobile hit. It's a bit early to say for certain though.

Between this and the moderate success of Bravely Default, they're already going endlessly better than last fiscal year as far as new titles go.
Yoko Taro turns into a gold mine all of a sudden hahaha.

Haha, oh yeah. Really I want to call Switch gen 9, but I'm sure there are some people unable to cope with such a statement. I left out 3DS for the same reason. If I didn't, PS4 wouldn't have any games in the top 10 this (or is it last) generation.

Am I reading right? It appears that on Amazon Jp you get a 500 yen discount to the digital version of Splatoon 2 if you buy Arms.

never in my life would I have thought a mainline Zelda game could be an evergreen in Japan.

congrats to the series, finally managed to keep the attention of gamers in Japan
never in my life would I have thought a mainline Zelda game has a chance to outsell a mainline FF game in the same gen... even now considering the possibility is already an accomplishment. Since last mainline FF game sold 2 mil and last mainline Zelda sold 300K.

It's likely a little of A and a little of B.

Dragon Quest sales have only gone up since DQ VII. XI will do a million each minimum on PS4 and 3DS in week 1. If you go by Amazon ranks, I believe the PS4 version may even do better than the 3DS version (which is the one I pre-ordered). Though I expect long-term sales to be better on 3DS.
I'll eat my socks if DQXI PS4 open over 1 mil or sells more than 3DS version week one. That would mean DQXI 3DS completely underperforms.

I think Dragon Quest XI on 3DS will underperform.
I still see it debuting over 1 million, but under 1.5 million.

E3 has been good to Nintendo:

I bring up Sony for comparison because Nintendo's market cap has been rising and was something to look at ever since Nintendo got back to surpassing the share value they got from Pokémon Go last year.

If their share value keeps rising, Nintendo will once again be worth as much as Sony.

Shipments will increase worldwide, not only in Japan. 50k top is what should expected. There was already a small rise last week.

Splatoon 2 and the weeks after it will define how high available stock can go, not Arms.
I forgot about worldwide shipments.

I'll just have to wait and see what happens for the rest of the month.

could be, Square is marketing the ps4 version far more than the 3ds one, they even came out and said that the 3ds version was an afterthought

I suspect 50-60K for ARMS week but Hiska will have important input if he can suss out store allotments again this week.

SPRAAAAA... ARMS hype!
Arms hype has gone up as its launch approaches. Not Splatoon 1 level but Nintendo has done a good work at promoting it. If word of mouth is good it won't have any problem becoming number 2 fighter in Japan.

Arms is the real deal, I'm sure of it after the Test sessions and the internet reaction to the ARMS direct.

Oh wow, now that you mention it.

ARMS is ranked 2nd and 4th on Amazon's best seller list.

2nd is the physical version.

4th is the digital version with the 500 yen coupon for Splatoon 2.

I still feel that the first Splatoon had a bit more hype but ARMS is indeed picking up some steam. If the word of mouth is good, Nintendo could have another hit on their hands. But I wonder if the fighting genre will hold it back in Japan.

Not important for a sales discussion my my daughter absolutely cannot wait for ARMS. She played like 5 of the Testpunches and has not had her fill of this game. She is my barometer on gamers in Japan. I was not nearly as sold on the first Splatoon as she was. Wasn't even planning to buy it until she pushed me to get it.

I thought Splatoon was charming but maybe not for me until I played that first test fire. I immediately pre ordered the game the second the first one finished. Barely got to play in the other hours because of scheduling but I knew it was going to be huge just after one hour.

I have the same feeling with this one, but genre might be a bit of a concern. It definitely has that Overwatch sort of appeal with its characters, broad but friendly. I think it will do well in Japan and could absolutely take root in the west. Unlike Splatoon I only missed one hour of ARMS testpunch total, and I never dropped a single frame in any of those matches. Online was rock solid and I was clearly playing with people from both Europe and Japan.

so you expect it to sell much worse than dqxi overall?

3ds will do the majority of the work and if it sells less than 1m fw...well thats not good for total sales

But I wonder if the fighting genre will hold it back in Japan.
If genre is the criterion without Nintendo racing genre would be dead in Japan and platforming genre would be dead in Japan. What could hold Arms back is game's structure and how much overlap there will be with Smash audience, not the genre itself.

Maybe the reason Pokken and not Smash has a port this year has to do with how much Nintendo wants to invest on Arms.

pokken sold pretty well on the wii u and it is a much easier game to port than smash, they also don't need smash this year

switch should help sell pokken since it plays well as a handheld title

it'll be the first fighter for the switch that isn't retro, arms isn't as much traditional

which makes me think why capcom hasn't announced a sfv port for switch yet, it's a great opportunity to revive the franchise

so you expect it to sell much worse than dqxi overall?

3ds will do the majority of the work and if it sells less than 1m fw...well thats not good for total sales
You mean less than IX? Yes, I do think so.

Before the opening of pre-orders, japanese blogs as Sinobi or the usual leaker blog predicted 1.2M FW for the 3DS version and 600k FW for the PS4 version.

But with the current pre-order information, the 3DS seems been underperforming and pre-orders for both versions are equal. And this is not coming from just Comg and Amazon.jp. GamesMaya said the same, and the leaker blog suggested some weeks ago that the difference between 3DS and PS4 was very slim.

Then, probably at the moment a realistic prediction would be 800-850k for each version, with a small margin for the 3DS version.

Still, there's a chance that casual gamers will buy the 3DS version without pre-orders, so the final numbers for this version might be closer to the original prediction.
But we'll see if they are busy with Splatoon 2 or what.

Nearly 8.

I think I may have announced her birth in an old sales thread (Vinnk's Village). Man now I feel old....
Holy crap! I remember that announcement like it was yesterday. It doesn't seem like it's been nearly that long. Time sure does fly.

im amazed at the number of sales people thinking mh5 wont come to switch

of course capcom is going to say it is a mainline game for their big budget crack at the west

mh3 wii was also mainline, that didn't stop it from appearing on handhelds

ffxi and dq x was also mainline

do people really think capcom is just gonna drop the 3-4m handheld mh players for absolutely no reason at all? that userbase is certainly not going to all migrate to the ps4

if the game is good enough and sells well enough to be considered mh5, then switch will get a port eventually at the least, theres no chance they do nothing after mh:xx, it makes absolutely no sense

i think the more likely reason is that ps4 version is overperforming rather than 3ds underperforming ie 3ds opening up at 2m while ps4 opens up at 800k rather than 500k

i definitely think ps4 will only add more to dqxi's total sales, rather than eating into 3ds sales, switch version is more likely to eat into 3ds sales than ps4 version will

splatoon is virtually the same in preorders numbers and the ceiling for that is 1m fw, dqxi is not going to open at 1m fw combined for both versions so that tells us comgnet numbers are pretty useless in this case

dq casual fanbase is huge, they're definitely not represented at all in those preorder numbers

why do you think dqxi will sell less than dqix? the series hasn't shown any kind of decline

remakes were still opening up at 500k+ and total sales of 1m+

pokemon is probably the only franchise to regularly put up better numbers for remakes but each game is only remade once while dq remakes and ports get released much more often

Very interested to see how swith will perform within the end of the year considering the gap in terms of third party support compared to the 3ds
It really seems the substitute of the wiiu only in the eyes of third parties

To be fair, 3DS only had Monster Hunter 3G and Inazuma Eleven GO by a third party at the end of 2011.

(Not counting irrelevant games)

DQXI just seems to have been a cluster fuck of planning. Why did it start as a PS4 title only to pivot hard towards 3DS near the end of life of the latter. Like what was the planning here? Why not make it for 3DS first in it's prime and then later release an HD release of PS4?

They spent years making the PS4 version while the 3DS was riding high and *then* pivoted but by then time had done as it always does and started taking it's toll on the 3DS.

if pokemon b/w and s/m can open up at 2m+ late into the gen, i don't see why dqix cant achieve the same feat with 2 platforms

am i missing something important to suggest such a decline for dq other than 3ds being old?

it's not like dq has never been released late into a platforms life

in the end, it was nintendo first party that saved the 3ds at the end of it's first year, the only big third party title was mh and that is coming for switch

3ds came after the ds and switch after wii u and in terms of support translating into sales, it isn't much difference between the two

it was probably planned in 2013, they wanted to use the DQ brand to sell it on the ps4 while making it more appealing to the west so that the sales in the west will make up for it

They were busy swimming in money lake that DQX make for them.

Development of DQXI start around early 2015 using same old DQX team (now X is in the hands of new recruit)
3DS was a afterthough tho.

then you are in for a surprise. DQXI on 3DS will do 2-3 millions in its first week
DQIX did 2.3 million in its first week, DQVIII 2.2 million (using Famitsu numbers). DQXI isn't going to sell the same or even more on 3DS alone when it's releasing on another platform as well (not to mention that neither 3DS' nor PS4's ecosystems are as healthy as DS and PS2 were back then).

userbase is the most important for dq and both 3ds and third party games for it has sold well enough for dq to perform as well as dqix did

i dont know why people think having the ps4 version is detrimental to sales when it only helps the game sell even more

Double dippers will be the exception, not the rule. PS4 sales will mainly make up for those who won't buy 3DS version, and there is still another version coming later.

They saw how much flagship titles did on PS4 and weren't sure the game would be able to have enough growth in the West to make up for the possible decline. I don't think the 3DS version would need that much time in development. There was also the Nintendo cross platform games like SSB and SMM that probably cemented their view that they need a 3DS version.
It would have been easier just to be PS4/Switch game but Switch wasn't on the radar when the development began on the 3DS.

so yeah 2-3 million. i dont know how much the PS4 version will sell in addition to that. 3DS seems to be doing fine looking at pokemon sund and moon and monster hunter xx which capcom wanted to sell more but honestly its just a G Rank update of X

DQ VII also released on PSone after PS2 came out and it didnt hurt sales

Its DQ in japan it will sell.
