You're about six months to a year late on that astonishing revelation.

The question though, is how much of those sales were frontloaded from PS3 users who have been waiting since 2007 to play an IM@S game on their system, which we'll see next week. It's pretty sure that the majority of those sales didn't come from new fans created by the TV series or something similar since the BD/DVD sales have been a huge disappointment thus far.

If there was anything important it would be already posted. azalyn talks for sellouts at his (small) store, get6-2 might give an estimate in a few hours.

All I needed to know. I don't expect the game to launch as hard a NSMB did but rumors of shortings would make my soul feel good.

Yeah, because Square-Enix published the MW series in Japan.

I think the SE name alone will help sales.

It didn't really seem to do much for Deus Ex, though, which seems like a game that would appeal more to the Japanese slightly more than COD.

Magicpaint said:
Why? This is doing on par with S-E's PSP efforts? What about this makes people expect more?
It's selling on par with the previous ones, but seems like it was the bigger effort. It's been in development over 5 years, with at least 3 of them on the PSP version.

The lowest number allowed imo would be 1.5m. Under would be just terrible.
Adding together all FF X SKUs, it's at 3.0 million. X-2 is at 2.3 million. Percentagewise, XIII-2 will have to do just a little better to hit 1.5 million.

Hey, has Vinnk done the rounds in the past couple weeks? I seem to recall that he was going to start up again, and this would be the perfect week to go and have a look see at his local shops.

So, the system that doesn't have a single game in the top 20 is by far the best selling system this past week, and almost outsold ALL the other systems COMBINED?

That's nuts. In Japan at least, 3DS is definitely now heading for big success.

PS - Is BurntPork still banned? He needs to eat some of dat crow.

Slime Mori Mori already saw a decrease, however :p

[GBA] Dragon Quest: Slime Morimori (Square Enix) - 67.797 / 346.190 / 19,58% 14/11/03
[NDS] Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (Square Enix) - 43.995 / 293.970 / 14,97% 01/12/05

Didn't realise the Slime Morimori games had such good legs; I know DQ has better legs than most RPGs and the Slime games aren't really RPGs either so that helps I guess, but that's still pretty good.

Looking closer at the numbers it seems they sold great during the holidays; the DS game sold best in its fourth week. I wonder if the new one will be able to continue that trend with all the heavy competition this holiday though

The title should be able to sell 750K-900K copies LTD, but it wont have significant impact on Wii hardware sales.

it won't sell 4m, if that is what you are asking, which I doubt
it'll probably become the best selling Console zelda, at least, after OoT, I believe.

um i dont know but i think Zelda:SS wont do a big number! i mean TP sold like 500k and thats in whole Wii life, Zelda:SS being released late in the game wont help at all.

He meant the DS game that was released last year. It shipped like 600k, and should've barely crawled to that via the price collapse.

But that was also a launch game, it's something a bit different.
Now, Zelda has a much greater install base to hit. It'll do much more.
Maybe not a million, but at least almost Wind Waker results...

EDIT: Ah XD

Certainly, it seems it will open better than Galaxy. And maybe as well as Galaxy 2.
But if White does a lot more in the weekend, it can do even more.

I suspect this is because it's being 'realistic'.

Phantom HG coming after TP, did around 900k; WW coming before TP did 750K on GC, I guess TP wasn't really popular with japanese Zelda demographic in terms of design and style. Also it may had to do with the time it was released in the Wii life cycle.

I'm still a firm believer TP sold relatively worse simply due to the fact by the time half the potential audience could actually buy a Wii the market was flooded with used copies

Also the holiday effect should help somewhat, not to mention the lack of abundant Wii titles.

Also the artstyle. lol

Looking back (in hindsight), Twilight Princess didn't really seem like an ideal launch title for Wii in Japan. Nintendo had quite a bit of software going into the launch, and with the Wii being all about the new motion controls at the time, Zelda probably could have released a little later, like in early 2007, and sales would have been the same or maybe even higher.

Famitsu had a feature on Nintendo's potential holiday performance and they had some new sales figures for various series on hand:

Monster Hunter Tri: 1,077,273
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd: 4,549,709
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD: 392,155
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G: 4,175,712
(others available, but don't look updated from previous numbers)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D: 443,467
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks: 740,109
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass: 902,386
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: 554,109

Mario Kart DS: 3,835,587
Mario Kart Wii: 3,271,343

New Super Mario Bros.: >6.2 million

3DS Hardware Predictions
There are also 3 people making predictions for 3DS hardware sales in November-December. One guy from SMBC Nikko Securities thinks that 3DS can potentially sell 2.0-2.5 million in 2 months. Expects Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and MH3G to perform strongly. Zelda SS and Just Dance Wii will be the Wii's big titles to pay attention to.

Someone from Bic Camera in Yurakucho (Tokyo) has more realistic predictions of around 1 million and expects MH3G to do very well because of the big sales of the PSP games and the fact that Tri G preorders have exceeded MH3 Wii pre-orders by quite a margin. Inazuma Eleven Go is also expected to do well.

Finally, a professor from Ritsumeikan University thinks 3DS hardware will sell around 1 million. The first 4 months of the system saw sales of 1.3 million. For systems like PSP, first year November sales usually rise by 1.3-1.6 times, while December ranges from 3.5 to 5.76 times the normal amount. That leaves 200K in November and 800K in December for 3DS (a rough estimate). He also expects the 2 Mario games, MH3G and Inazuma Eleven Go to surpass 500K each.

I didn't realize the ds zeldas sold so well in Japan. I wonder if OoT3D will keep the long legs it has now once Mario and Mario Kart are released.

I think it might eek it's way up to around 600k when all is said and done.

Reports seem to suggest that iM@S2 sold 89.46％ of units shipped, so I guess I shouldn't expect too much out of its second week based purely on stock in distribution.

l think it won't take more than a week or two to see how 'unrealistic' 1m is.

The fact that MH3G is outdoing the preorders of the original is something even Comgnet tells us.

At the same distance from the release, in fact...

MH3G - 626pt
MH3 - 483pt

Didn't it sell well over 200k in October without any big games? Seems like a very modest estimate. It's pretty hard to predict anything using average monthly sales for the 3DS this year considering its turnaround in the last few months, and of course the fact that all the big titles are being released all at once after a year long drought
